  1. Yeah, he mentioned it in the recent Twitter Q&A: https://twitter.com/Wilco/status/773254798401503232 Pretty sure that Jeff is a friend of Saki's owner—I recall seeing him shopping there on Record Store Day a few years back. At one point, the store was working with Sue to put together an exhibition of Lounge Axe memorabilia, though I don't believe that ever came to fruition. Saki is my neighborhood store, so I'm very sad to see it go. In terms of selection and the ability to quickly order just about anything you asked for, there's no place like it in the city. If anyone knows of someo
  2. Wow, I was going to come over here and shamelessly post a link to this interview, but someone beat me to the punch. I'm bummed that I wasn't able to publish the full conversation that I had with Nels, but Time Out generally keeps things short and to the point. The impression I got while talking to Nels (and I hope that this came through) is that he's very excited to have the time to work on projects that AREN'T Wilco right now. Judging by the various releases and recent touring activity by other Wilco members, it seems like everyone is taking some well-deserved time to do their own thing. I th
  3. According to this interview, he's working on his next record in the vein of Insignificance and Eureka: http://www.timeout.jp/en/tokyo/feature/7344/Jim-ORourke-interview-transcript
  4. Wish I had been able to see him play with Wilco (I became a fan of the band long after he had departed the lineup). Even though IATTBYH essentially villainized him, I think it's still possible to watch that film and see glimpses of what he was truly like. I love the rendition of "Cars Can't Escape" with Jay on piano and Jeff singing that was captured in that film—still sends shivers down my spine. Since moving to Chicago a few years back, I've had the privilege of spending some time in the Pieholden Suite Sound studios, sometimes in front of that very same piano that Jay played. Jay's old fr
  5. Sharon Van Etten, Calexico, Jonathan Richman and--most importantly--Mavis Staples added to the lineup.
  6. Press release states that Wilco is headlining on Saturday (June 1) and John Prine will close things out on Sunday (June 2.) Looks like Reigning Sound, Cotton Jones and Wooden Indian Burial Ground are also confirmed. http://www.donewaiting.com/2012/12/03/wilco-headling-2013-nelsonville-music-festival/

  9. I'll be there in MZ Box 17— sounds as if VCers are all over the box seats.
  10. For anyone who has Spotify, you can now stream the four bonus tracks from the deluxe version of the record.

Apologies if these articles have been posted elsewhere, but there seems to be a need for something of substance in regards to the new record in this thread. Here are a few impressions of some of the tracks on the new record: http://timeoutchicago.com/music-nightlife/music/14916169/wilco’s-the-whole-love And here's a nice little piece that nicely encapsulates the sentiment behind the latest LP (despite misspelling Nels' name): http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/September-2011/Wilco-to-Release-The-Whole-Love-on-New-Label/?fb_ref=top&fb_source=profile_oneline The record is defin
  12. According to the Wilco Store:
  13. So, if Wilco Store is getting blue vinyl and the UK is getting silver, any guesses as to the Solid Sound exclusive color?
  14. Same here--my guess is they're running behind.
  15. Not sure if this has been mentioned here before, but Leroy plays a solo acoustic set every Friday at the Whistler in Chicago. If you have any doubts about how great of a player he is, go and see for yourself.
  16. Think the song you're missing is "The Answer". I definitely remember them playing that one-- love the bass line on it.
  17. Here's my covers of "How To Fight Loneliness" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiYtxmBHTnQ and "I'm the Man Who Loves You" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtYNz6Y0gDE
  18. While I love hearing AGIB tracks live, they never quite live up to the studio versions for me. I think this is partly due to how great O'Rourke's production on this record was, and also the fact that he was essentially the fifth member of the band during these sessions, sitting in on pretty much every track. O'Rourke is a genius, and without his participation I don't think any of the AGIB songs are quite the same.
  19. Good to hear Jeff is taking lead again, after so many years of awesome interpretations of his A Ghost is Born solos by Nels. I think it's easy to forget that on that particular record, Jeff did almost all the lead work himself. As much as I love what Nels does, I'm really looking forward to some scorching Tweedy solos next week in Columbus!
  20. Mine too! Frontgate even sent me a tracking number so I could keep tabs on where my tickets were. A big improvement over MusicToday's old system of consistently sending tickets out late...
  21. The streams are up on XPN, I'll link them for anyone who's interested. Real Player: http://www.npr.org/dmg/dmg_em.php?id=111376732&type=1&date=31-jul-2009&mtype=RM Windows: http://www.npr.org/dmg/dmg_em.php?id=111376732&type=1&date=31-jul-2009&mtype=WM
  22. Last Wilco show I went to at the Wex was back in 05, but I've been to countless other shows there since and it has been a consistently great venue to see music at. I'll hopefully see you folks there!
  23. October 12 Mershon Auditorium, Columbus, OH http://www.wexarts.org/pa/?eventid=4081
  24. My guess is that the inventory from the old store is still being transferred to the new store; so I'm sure the selection will increase drastically within the next few weeks. As for the Wilco vinyl reissues-- they've been confirmed; if you're really concerned about pre-ordering try Insound or Amazon.
  25. All ages? If so, I'll totally be there...
