    A Cherry Ghost
  1. sky blue sky is ok but its not a great record. Any record that I listened to enough times I would probbably grow to like on some level. Its not on par with any of their earlier albums (except maybe ghost is born) in my opinion. AM rocks -if you havent seen it theres a sweet youtube clip of tweedy playing with brian henneman recently.
  2. I think this may be one ofthe few songs that I just like the regular old album version the best. or maybe 1997 in south carolina. jeff is not being tongue in cheek, at some level he is thakful for his success but also has to hold on to the punk ethos or it will go away. This is his attempt to do that.
  3. I miss the old band but I also miss the days of my youth. I was struck at how much I miss Jays playing on songs like forget the flowers, someday soon and summerteeth after listening to the chicago shows. That is brilliant lead work that nels can't touch but damn if his playing isnt brilliant on impossible germany. I kind of miss that earlier wilco too. Tweedy deserves to be a millionare-do you think he is? (I mean 1 million dollars free and clear in the bank)
  4. I'm not a big fan of either song but I'm eager to see how it goes
  5. Hate to say it by Ryan Adams is cooler than Jeff on this one and openly allows his shows on the archive. I dont really blame Wilco though
  6. I dont like it- the band themselves only recorded the song at the request of the record company to try and have a single and they decided to put it first as it didnt really fit with the rest of the album. I agree with that but I would have put it last. I dont really like most songs where jeff seems to try too hard to "rock out" (kicking television, cant stand it, im a wheel, shake it off, etc) Summerteeth has some great songwriting but this is not one of them.
  7. Yeah the reason I love AM is that it has the best consistant guitar solos of any wilco album. Ou of all their catalog I like the solo in forget the flowers the best. I always think that no wilco solo could top that. Say what you will about jay but that is some damn good guitar playing.
  8. I like the record ok but there are some songs on it that make me cringe. There is nothing as lyrically brilliant as many past songs that Jeff has written on this record. I hope I'm wrong, but I think Jeff (like just about everybody else in rock and roll) is past his prime. Theres nothing wrong with this and I really hope I'm wrong but this happens to everyone.
  9. Didn't like it but only listened to it about twice. This is what I would call "for hardcore fans only"
  10. Impossible germany is my favorite and, I think, the only song on the record capable of standing up to some of their earlier work in later years. The "rockers" make me cringe. I do really like Nels smooth jazz solos and the softer songs are very good but nothing grabs me like all the other albums did. I may just need to listen more (only made it through about 7 times)
  11. So there are many songs on the new album that I really like but there are some that I really don't. You are my face- for the first time in all my listening and studying Jeff Tweedy lyrics these read like he randomly picked phrases from one of those magnetic boards. There is nothing in this song that i realte to and I guess it surprises me because just about every song jeff has written I relate to. This one has no lines that I relate to- that I think about, that resonate with me, that make me think of something from my own life or at least paint a picture or an image. This song does not do it
  12. Yes it is an inferior version of far far away- just listen to the first notes of the guitar solo and you can hear it.
