  1. This hit my inbox a couple days ago:

    Elvis Costello Fans;

Elvis Costello and The Sugarcanes are going out on the road in support of his new CD "Secret, Profane and Sugarcane" being released on June 2nd! Elvis is touring with "The Sugarcanes", a special new band for these shows featuring Jerry Douglas on guitar, Jim Lauderdale on vocals/guitar, Mike Compton on mandolin, Dennis Crouch on bass, Stuart Duncan on violin and Jeff Taylor on accordion.

The following date has just been confirmed:

8/24/09 - Malkin Bowl (Vancouver, BC)

Elvis is also going to be playing a very special show with The Imposters in July.

7/10/09 - Agua Caliente Casino (Rancho Mirage, CA)

    See you at shows!

    Now that's a f'ing band

  2. I thought this through. I preordered vinyl and will buy the cd in the store on release date. (I had to have actual cd copy, not just one that comes with the vinyl) This way if my pre order vinyl is delayed, no biggee, i got a copy in my hands one way or the other.

Did you go for the shirt?

I did since the price was good, this being a single vinyl. Don't know if I'll ever get around to ironing something ironic on the back. "MOM!!"

  3. Yes, damn it. It is like Planet Waves type guitar lick and tone. I love Country Disappeared but was killing myself trying to place that lick and now it has been resolved.

Oh yes! I'm going to have to listen to Going Going Gone tonight. I think there is a very similar lick in that song.

Someone who can talk him down from the panic attack. (just my guess.. I've had a few of these in my life)

I like this. In that GQ blog, Tweedy compared the sound of the song to someone leaving the phone off the hook.

  4. I can't believe they wouldn't tell you what seats you get before you buy. The random thing is normal over here but you can at least throw your tickets back and try again if they are really bad. Here is the email for Tony Margherita's company: info@tmmchi.com

Presales are good if you're pretty sure a show is going to sell out fast. If not, I usually call the box office and they will help you pick out the best seat (they know the venue) and maybe even get you good tickets that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

  5. how long has that gas station chain been around?

also, any idea where the band got their name?

The gas station has been around since the 60's. The founder's last name was Williams (Williams Co. = Wilco)

Wilco was formed in 1994 and is short for Will Comply.

  6. Has anyone still not received the AOAF DVD? I'm in the UK and it's been over a month since it was released, but I still haven't got mine. I've not had a calling card from the Post Office, so i've been emailing the website to find out if they've posted it. They've been quite vague so far. It's putting me off pre-ordering the new album from the site....

The pre-order for the album is from a different site than the DVD.

Hope you get your DVD soon.

  7. SS, I used to go up there quite a bit. One bar I would always make sure to stop in is Brewtopia. They brew their own beer, have decent live music. I've never seen it too crowded or dead. Just a really good vibe. Hopefully it's still around.

  8. I agree. I've only just started delving into them and there is a lot there to dissect. They make the lyrics on SBS look even more pedestrian than I have always thought they were (for the most part, anyway).

I'm with you, especially on I'll Fight. When I first heard it I thought the lyrics were horrendous. I'll fight for you, kill for you, die for you, blah, blah, blah, heard it before. Then I realized it was literal (a rose is a rose)! That song is like a movie now; certain lyrical images (you'll wake with a start from a dream, abandoned by the mill, in war's waters i will wade) are coming to me in full technicolor.

  9. In fact, my wife and I were driving back from Austin the other day and we listened to Wilco (The Album) and then I put in Summerteeth.

I did the same exact thing on Monday driving back from New York. One of our friends in the back seat fell asleep during Wilco (The Album) and woke up halfway through Summerteeth. When she woke up she said, "Wow this is a long album!" There are a lot of similarities.
