It was such an in-the-computer, in-the-studio exercise. That allowed us to let our guard down. We didn’t have to feel like we had to make these songs feel like they happened organically. We could do stuff that sounded studio. That gave us freedom and allowed us to make a record where we do a lot of editing.

Although I must say I was pretty bummed once I read the liner notes and realized it was Pat on piano in One Sunday Morning and not Mike.

It's the only song on the album that I can't get into to.

the final 2 minutes of the vinyl version is fantastic. Not sure why they would cut that off the CD version.

No song should ever end in a fadeout. It's just a pet peeve of mine and I find it to be an unsatisfying and lazy way to end a song. Wilco was guilty of that a few times on this album. But I'll forgive them!

how does One Sunday Morning sound live? Is it faithful to the studio version or much different live?

Yep, this is my favorite track on the album.

I've not posted here in a long while, but have been keeping up with everyone's comments on the new album and figured I'd toss in my few thoughts.

- By far more adventurous than the past 2 albums, which was really refreshing to hear.

- While I love to the opening track, was kinda bummed not to hear those kinds of sounds at all throughout the rest of the album.

- Sunloathe is great, the buildup to those shimmery psychedelic guitar parts is great, but I wish it kept going! Seems to end a little too soon.

- Dawned On Me's chorus is super catchy. Slightly reminded me of the SBS outtake Glad It's Over at the start, but thankfully moved away from that quickly.

- Black Moon is beautiful. I love the sparseness and space in this song.

- I like Open Mind. It does feel a bit too much Tweedy-solo, but it's a pretty song nonetheless.

- Standing O is the only song on the record I don't like at all. I'm sure it will be a fun live song, but it feels forced and thrown in here and doesn't really fit with the rest I don't think. Don't really like what he's doing with his voice either.

- Love that slightly muted picking going on throughout parts of Rising Red Lung. Glenn's doing some great stuff on this too toward the end of the track. Beautiful song.

- I imagine I'll keep getting lost in all the great sounds in the last track. Great finish.

God, this album gets better every listen. I love it.

I'm not really sure how you "underachieve" when every album you make is pretty much rock solid...

...maybe in terms of commercial success, but definitely not in terms of making good music.

and I still think Britt has the best voice in rock n roll.

yeah I agree the 2nd half is fantastic. It's probably not as good as Ga Ga for me, but I still like it for the most part. They will never make a sub par album, but I do wish they'd branch out a bit more sometimes. Good tunes, nonetheless.

i think the first 4 songs are pretty underwhelming...

sit down shows are never as good. ever.

I found audiences to be pretty respectful.

I'm glad I hung on to my tickets from the presale... I was thinking about tossing em back and trying my luck with this sale for better seats

maybe if you call the venue they will have good seats left...

Cousins is the most annoying song they've ever recorded.

I like some of the new album, but definitely don't enjoy it as much as the first. I do think the last 3 songs on it are pretty strong, though.

I think the main thing you are going to get is more songs.

Both of the "Evening with" shows I've been to have had 25-30 songs with solid setlists.

I like the fact that it hasn't leaked yet.

Regardless of whether you like them, remember when Radiohead's In Rainbows came out and everyone got to listen to it at the exact same time? That was a cool experience, I thought. To have everyone hear it on the same day and be able to talk about it right after listening....

10 more days... it's pretty unbelievable that this thing has been kept under wraps this long.

I got 4 tickets in row G on the right orch side. Not too shabby.

Nice, I kept trying but could only get as close as Row M in the orch section. At least they're aisle seats...

I just hope everyone isn't sitting on their butt the whole time at the Strathmore/DC show. Seems like a nice/semi uppity theater...
