I Am Trying to Break Your Heart
  1. He hasn't "quit" music. He just decided that music for now isn't his main thing. He's been playing on releases in the Japanese improv scene as a side-man. He also still has projects in the works with members of Sonic Youth. Last but not least, he made a recording of the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu for Columbia Japan, which he also performed live (a clip is up on youtube). edit: and of course, there's Loose Fur. "Born Again in the USA" was made after he moved to Japan. And his various mixing employments, the most high-brow being Joanna Newsom's Ys last year.
  2. They played there? Christ, just reading that sentence made me cringe. Didn't they play the House of Blues the second time around in like '06 or late '05? I totally passed that because that's probably one of the worst indoor venues here. I once saw Ernie Krivda's Fat Tuesday Big Band play there, and the horns sounded totally flat somehow.
  3. Sometimes I feel like being wispy And once in a while I feel like being dry But we're doomed and we're drowned by this feeling we surround So I hope that I get old before I die Ohhhhh It's a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope And I wonder why this hasn't happened Why why why And I think about the dirt that I'll be wearing for a shirt And I hope that I get old before I die Clear off the kitchen table darling For on the kitchen table I must lie I'm just tired for my wife just served the banquet of my life And I hope that I get old before I die Ohhhhh It's a long, long rope th
  4. It's there on the new CD. Merge did the reissue right (though the distortion like on Little Fury Things kinda makes the digital high-end a bit much). I'd imagine that also means it's on the new vinyl too (which is what I really should have, but don't). Jim O'Rourke - Ghost Ship In A Storm > Movie on the Way Down. also Tortoise - It's All Around You > The Lithium States > Crest.
  5. Surprised no one recommended The Greenhornes. Too white?
  6. Super old thread, but I need the original FLAC... If somone still has this and is willing upload, that'd be awesome, thanks.
  7. Pretty intense box set. My problem is that though, I don't like everyone on Thrill Jockey.... I'm waiting for the next Tortoise album, and I have Lazarus Taxon to hold me over until then.
  8. Well, it helped that at AC, the people next to me didn't hate my guts. I had people on both sides of me hating me for trying to have a good time. It put a real damper on the actual show. As an experience however, the AF/Electrelane show wins out.
  9. I saw them in Chicago with Sir Richard Bishop, the same weekend that I saw Arcade Fire and Electrelane together. I enjoyed the experience of the former much more!
  10. Is it just me, or did I not see any mentions of...
  11. I just picked this up from Borders today and it's utterly fascinating. I knew Boyd had a huge hand in the UK folk scene but I didn't know his involvement with Newport, bringing the blues to England, and most of the other things that come to light as I keep reading. This is a ridiculously awesome music book and I think most of you guys will love this. I highly suggest.
