With SBS out, what's everybody looking forward to in the rest of the year? Here's my list: The White Stripes-Icky Thump The Polyphonic Spree-The Fragile Army Spoon-Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga The New Pornographers-Challengers Animal Collective-Strawberry Jam Rilo Kiley-Under the Blacklight And on top of that, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Wolf Parade, and the Mars Volta are all tentatively scheduled to release new albums sometime this year.

I took it to mean the actual albums, but now that I re-read it, I see your point. Here it is in context. It's really all in how you approach it-true, it sucks by their standards, but it actually makes a semi-decent mainstream rock record. Which I think was Pollard's intention at the time-did you check out the Spin interview with him from November?

I was just commenting on the general production quality of their albums around that time. Like you said, Do the Collapse is the only one that was genuinely a "sellout" album (however, I don't even necessarily dislike it-it's just in somewhat of a different league from their other stuff). And I do agree regarding Isolation Drills.

Most of the albums Guided By Voices did while they were on TVT were slick, overproduced, and relatively uninspired in comparison to their older work. Even (frontman) Robert Pollard called it a "semi-sellout move". And I'm well aware that Nick Drake is dead-my point wasn't that he would've wanted his music to be used in a car ad, but rather that the fact that Pink Moon was in a VW commercial didn't change my perception of his music. The majority of posters seem more concerned about what connotations the music (whether Drake or Wilco) has than the music itself.

For the whole tour? I want to try and catch them in Philly.

1-The dude from Tiny Mix Tapes is being unfairly snarky, and sounds like a pretentious jerk to me. 2-Regarding the "controversy" in general, two words: Nick Drake. 3-I haven't seen the ad yet, and highly doubt I will. 4-Apparently some people gave SBS little enough thought prior to seeing the commercial that they've dubbed it (in one poster's words) "the VW album". 5-As many have said far more eloquently than myself, Wilco treats its fans uncommonly well, what with the online streams, the permission to tape concerts, etc. They of all people don't deserve to be attacked like this. 6-Personal

I'll toast to that-Wilco's one of the few bands around today that, in my opinion, has never put out a bad album. I just wasn't overtly phased when Jay left, especially once Nels joined a couple years later. Jay was a vital part of the band's evolution, and they made some great records together, but he's gone, and chances are he's not coming back-deal with it.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh...How about not. A-The new album is great, as is the current lineup. B-It was Jay's ego, not Jeff's, that got him kicked out. C-Nels is better than Jay anyway.

Nice. The exclusion of Let's Not Get Carried Away was my only problem with the SBS track listing, and Theologians is one of my favorite Ghost tracks-especially live.

They played Lollapalooza last year (awesome show by the way), and they're playing Bonnaroo this year already, so it's looking doubtful in that regard. But you never know...I really wouldn't mind if they showed up every year, and it'd certainly be interesting considering Son Volt is already set to play Lolla.
