This is a huge step following Honky Tonk. When they released the title of this album months ago, I was worried this record would be a Jay Farrar plays the blues thing like Honky Tonk was for classic country. Outside of Shine Down and Angel of the Blues, that record is very easy for me to forget. On Honky Tonk the instrumentation is Bakersfield, but the song writing doesn't match the mood. Nobody in a real Honky Tonk would ever dance to those.
I agree with your assessment of Honky Tonk, but no love for Seawall and Down the Highway? Those are the two standouts off that album for me.

Notes of Blue is really great.
Maybe Jay can produce the next Wilco record. Notes sounds great and is definitely a focused record. Definitely borrows a lot from old school blues - but there is nothing wrong with that. Hopefully, Jay can transfer it to the stage and put on a great concert. Jay can catch a few Wilco shows / Jeff can take note of Notes and both would benefit.
Did flip through some of Jay's book - okay, nothing earth shattering. Very antidotal, which was his point, I suppose.
The new album is very good. The book? Not so much.

maybe not the best, but i got a bit of a charge hearing both The Melvins and Sleep in the strip club scene of True Detective (season 1).
I had a similar reaction to that show's use of Grinderman's "Honey Bee (Let's Fly to Mars)" during the closing credits of the episode where Russ escaped the housing project in Beaumont, TX.

Not much of a Patterson fan are you, Heartbreak?

The Curb theme makes any scene (real or fictional) better.

I have to assume that Murray actually owned that swimsuit, and just brought it to set.
That was one of the first ones that came to mind. Second was the "Layla" scene in Goodfellas. Third was the Baby Blue scene in Breaking Bad.

The Jayhawks will be Ray Davies' backing band on his upcoming album, Americana.

record of the year?
Got on it pretty late, but it has been in heavy rotation. Very strong record.

Who does his voice sound like?
A little Malkmus, sure. But there is someone else that he sounds like even more...
And it's killing me trying to figure out who.
Some people says Ray Davies. I hear some Chuck Prophet in young Will's voice.
Honestly I didn't think I was being a troll.

Decade was my first real immersion into Neil's catalog and I love it. While it does contain a handful of non-album tacks, I wasn't expecting him to include a compilation in the box set series.

I'm guessing Knight Rider is a big fan of this album:

I know Neil's been quoted as having personal reasons for not having TFA released, but hopefully now that the Archives are almost completed that means all they have to do is just release it.
I would love to have Ragged Glory, Harvest Moon and Sleeps with Angels on Vinyl. Or the Dead Man Soundtrack
He reissued TFA on vinyl and, as suites pointed out, has it up on Spotify. It never received a CD release which I always found curious. He released the four of the "Missing Six" (OTB, AS&B, H&D, Reactor) on CD thirteen years ago, but no TFA or JTTP. With the CD being a dying or dead medium, I cannot imagine Neil will ever release either of those on that format.
I, too, am looking forward to the reissuing of RG, HM, SWA (and Freedom) on vinyl. I hope "Don't Spook the Horse" is a bonus 7'' with the RG reissue.

Nice!
Looking through this thread, I like the listening vibe Pop Todd & Chez have been on lately.
