    A Cherry Ghost
  1. I listened on the radio -- there was one instance, I believe between the Late Greats and the Good Part where Jeff was mid-sentence and suddenly his banter cut out and the next song started. I figured they censored that part.
  2. When I saw Death Cab at Taste a couple of years ago the show was over by 8:00. I suspect the Tweedy show will end around then as well.
  3. and for posterity, the last time the full band played at Taste: http://www.sooutoftune.org/concerts/568
  4. via (Chicago's) 93 WXRT facebook page: I'm excited for this. XRT always books some good openers too so I'm curious to see the full lineup for that day. I thought I read this year that some tix will be sold in the $50 range, and some in another price range, but that the lawn will still be free. Edited to add: the date for this is July 12
  5. Tix for Toyota Park are $77.70 after ticketmaster fees ($62.00 face). Pretty sure I'll be making my way to this.
  6. Just to follow up -- the Wilco at Summerfest thing was a false alarm. Avett Brothers will be co-headlining with Violent Femmes. Good bill, but I don't know if it's worth it for me to make the trek up from Chicago on a weeknight.
  7. Consequence of Sound lists Wilco as being "official" for Summerfest in Milwaukee. Anyone else heard anything? I suspect we'll see an official performance announcement (or perhaps tour announcement???) soon! http://festival-outlook.consequenceofsound.net/fests/view/1196/summerfest Edit: Just saw this -- http://www.radiomilwaukee.org/music/soundboard/events/wilco-co-headline-violent-femmes-summerfest Co-headlining with Violent Femmes on June 26?
  8. But really though, so many highlights tonight! Even though there was something I wanted to hear (side note: If I really wanted to year it I should have gotten there earlier) but it would be hard to sub one of the other songs out. Very strong top to bottom. Jeff also took the time to mention some of the covers that people asked him to play, but I missed a lot of those.
  9. I'm never ever disappointed with the Jeff solo shows, and tonight was great again (my fourth straight year making at least one night; didn't make it Wednesday though) Gotta say, I'm a little disappointed nobody in line picked Pecan Pie in honor of Pi Day (or Pieholden Suite [thanks Paul])
  10. Pretty late replying here, but what time did Jeff go on last night? Right at 7:30? Much thanks if anyone sees/reads/responds. Trying to gauge for night 2!
  11. Jeff said they hadn't practiced Nothingsevergonnastandinmyway(again) so we should have low expectations, but they nailed it! I loved Nothingsever; Misunderstood as an opener was perfect for the Hideout; and Christ for President was a GREAT surprise.
  12. If I recall correctly, outdoor music has gone on past 10:00 at the Hideout. I remember Waco Brothers playing until about 10:30pm at the Bloodshot anniversary, and Ratatat and Hercules & Love Affair went past 10:00p at the Block Party in 2008. So, it's not without the realm of possibility that Iron and Wine goes until 10:30. The 45 minute set time (assuming a 10:00 curfew) seems pretty short for them. I'd still bet Wilco ends at 10:00 though. Definitely beyond excited for the Block Party this year.
  13. In an incredibly unfortunate turn of events, I got into a car accident en route to the park (about half a mile away, could see people walking to the stadium), so my girlfriend and I ended up missing the show. Luckily everyone involved came out with just cuts, scrapes and bruises, but took precautionary rides to the hospital (The cars didn't make it, and mine is still out in the west suburbs. Seat belts save lives, and strangers are just friends you haven't met...it's all true). From the hospital we got a ride and headed back to the city and got to hear the [quite awesome] encores on XRT. 14. $36 via Nonesuch: http://www.nonesuch.com/albums/mermaid-avenue-the-complete-sessions Any word on a vinyl boxset? Surely they would make a killing from just people who post on viachicago, haha.
  15. SO many times during this set I was like "OH MY GOD, I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY PLAYED THAT" and then they just kept finding ways to top the last really awesome thing. It was largely an acoustic-driven set, with Jeff only using the electric guitar for the new songs (didn't use an electric at all up until Born Alone). John got a HUGE ovation for Just That Simple. This was the first time I heard the full-band-acoustic-arrangement for Spiders, which was amazing. Spiders was my number 2 moment of the night, just cause the Misunderstood second encore was just TOO perfect. Also loved Not For The Season
