Throughout The Zone of Interest a woman sitting near me eagerly chomped through a bucket of popcorn, and I wanted to lean over and ask, "You were making out during Schindler's List?"

My 15-year-old son came along, and our subsequent conversation during the 35-minute car ride home was one of our best movie conversations ever. (And he had the moral wherewithal to intentionally finish his nachos during the trailers!)

I watched this yesterday. It's a very powerful film. It tells a familiar story in a new way.

Any source online? Can’t find anything about it (yet), but I’m very hopeful for a return to form after their last (mediocre at best) album.

If you can't open it here's a quote from the Substack entry:

Today, I am almost entirely certain that this will be a double album, despite the usual warnings from the people with better commercial/financial sense than I — that double LPs are invariably more expensive and fewer people buy them.

This was published by Colin in mid October, and in December he posted that the recording process was complete.

Will be my first SSF and while I am honestly fairly underwhelmed by the lineup (was hoping for someone I liked a little more than Isbell for the main non-Wilco act), I am excited to dig into some of these other bands.  Have already listened to some Fenne Lily, Hailu Mergia, Ratboys and Mary Halvorsen and really am enjoying those, so hopefully the rest of my exploring will be as fruitful!

I'm not a huge fan of Jason Isbell, but his live shows are excellent. Another of the young bands you should check out is Wednesday. They're my favorite musical discovery of 2023. Here's a great 30-minute documentary on the band that was released not long ago.
