  1. Firstly, I'd like to thank LouieB for his generous thoughts and offer during this process. And what he brings up here as far as the real and/or obtainable objectives of "Record Store Day" vis-a-vis the future viability of independent record stores are what my frustrations stem from. Like I said earlier, I'm not trying to catch a bargain, skirt the process, or avoid any perceived "hassle" of going down to the local record store to get a hold of some of these great, exclusive items. What I am, is a guy stuck in an area with no local participant in "Record Store Day" with obligations that pr
  2. It was in fact Vinyl Solution back in the day (I was there off and on from '87-'95). But I've got my son's baseball and I'm a chef, so I've got to juggle both recreation and work on saturday. So even the 50min both ways is undoable for me. Like I say, I'd love to help foster an event such as this, but presently financially is the only way I'm able to contribute.
  3. And to that point, I've now taken your earlier suggestion and called over a dozen stores (including several I used to frequent in person in Boston, Berkeley and Atlanta), and nobody's doing mail order in order to preserve the integrity of the event. And I understand this to the point that one of the goals of the day is to foster the experience of being in the store (i.e. smelling the vinyl, people watching, talking to the likeminded clerks and/or customers, etc.). Not only that, nobody can even tell me for sure if they're getting whatever particular record in stock that day, so even if I cou
  4. Really there's a few things--the Pavement live LP being 1st and foremost, but also the SY/Beck single, New Order 7", Emmylou Harris LP and Wilco DVD. And when I saw on this board info regarding an exclusive download included for the Wilco DVD accessed by some voucher given out at the store, I figured I'd come on here because a VCer would be sure to remember to pick that up as opposed to an order w/ a record store employee a couple of weeks prior to the event. Plus, when I 1st looked at the official record store day website a few months back, the section of participating stores east of the Mi
  5. Hey, I was wondering if anyone out there in Wilco cyberworld would be willing to help out a brother who lives in the wilderness of chain stores (B'ham, AL). If anyone out there is going to this event at a location near you, and wouldn't mind picking up a couple of things (of course on my dime), would you give me a holler. I'd be willing to make it worth your while (not like cutting you a check, but maybe buying your Wilco DVD or something). Thanks in advance.

  7. I was actually going to mention Arthur. Obviously it's a narrative concept album, but the epic opener and closer as well as pacing warrant mention as well I rarely put on whole albums anymore without the shuffle feature on the ipod, computer etc. Some I can remember doing recently though... Queen is Dead-The Smiths Closer-Joy Division London Calling-The Clash Automatic For the People-REM Loaded-VU Sophtware Slump-Grandaddy Abbey Road's not so great on shuffle either.

  9. My dad turned down tickets to the Beatles in Atlanta's Fulton County Stadium and I have an ex-boss who stayed at home to study when the Sex Pistols played in Atlanta in 78 or so. Personally, I went to just about any show I've ever had the chance to go to.
  10. Strangely enough, I heard both Uncle Tupelo and Wilco for the first time at shows where they were the opening band and I'd never heard anything by either band before. UT opening for Teenage fanclub and Wilco for Cracker. Both were eye-opening to say the least.
  11. You know, that's about the only thing that I don't have. I've got a rather raw version of Our Dying Brains from it, but other than that, nothing. I've scoured the net and record store bins picking up just about everything else. If you've got a copy, I'd love to hear it. nudge nudge, wink wink.
  12. I didn't say I didn't like the album. As a matter of fact, to bring it back to Wilco, that was my first exposure to the band (I'd seen and heard Uncle Tupelo before) but had been warned off of AM by some friends whose opinion I respected but was completely blown away by them as Cracker's opening act (which may go some ways in explaining my disappointment with Cracker that night). Like I say, I'd seen them after the first record and they were fantastic. They played until the venue cut the power on them mid-song after about 2 1/2 hours.
  13. 1. Why? Because I went to see the Cure? Because I didn't like them? Because I was 20 once and thought with my pecker? Or because I once had a crush on a girl who wore black eyeliner all the time? And REMPHISH1 it was the Disintegration tour in maybe 1990 or 91. Thanks for the welcome as well. 2. Sorry. It was 2007 at Sloss Furnace in B'ham, AL. I don't have the strongest recollection for things that aren't so memorable. 3. Free tickets both times. The topic didn't specify that you had to expect to like the artist in question. Plus, I thought if I took a dig at Dylan with my firs
