  1. Sitting during the exciting moments of a football game is kind of weird. Complaining about other people standing is hilariously ridiculous.

Sitting during a rock concert (no less a Wilco concert) is just plain bizarre.

Celebrate life. You paid to see a band you love. What good would it do our hearts to stand and dance a couple hours. You can sit at the computer, most people can sit at work. Let us stand, dance and be joyful.

It's not a stinking Texas A&M football game where you are required to stand.

It's a rock concert. Sometimes you want to stand and groove, dance or scream.

Sometimes you want to sit and enoy.

YOU are not going to dictate to me how I am going to enjoy a show.

And I won't tell you to sit down when I'm sitting. I will probably stand and groove with you.

  2. Well...now that they have the nomination, will they play on the telecast? Should they?

    And if so...what song?

If they perform, will Jeff do something with his hair?

He certainly isn't know for his well coifed appearance

  3.

As for him being a dick, I think he's just very reserved and tends to show very little emotion which can come across as distant. It'd take a lot of energy to try to get some of the spotlight away from Chris when they are on stage together and I'd guess that Rich really has no interest in doing that, but I don't really know, of course. My impression, based on recent interviews, is that he's a very thoughtful and quiet kind of guy who nonetheless has a lot of great music that comes from his soul. He seems sincere to me.

Well, he's got one thing going for him. Kate Hudson didn't ruin his life.

  4. Mikey Welsh, the former bassist for the American rock band Weezer, has died in Chicago of a suspected overdose, authorities said Sunday. He was 40.

Welsh, who played with the alternative rock group from 1998 to 2001 before leaving the band and starting a second career as a painter, was found unconscious in his hotel room on Saturday.

Weezer said in a statement on its website that Welsh was in the city for the Chicago RiotFest to see his former band play.

Welsh, who performed on the album "Weezer" (better known as the "Green Album") including hits "Hash Pipe" and "Island in the Sun," had left the band after suffering a nervous breakdown, according to the band's statement.

On September 26 Welsh wrote an ominous message on his Twitter feed, saying: "dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). need to write my will today."

Weezer described their former bassist as "a unique talent, a deeply loving friend and father, and a great artist" who channeled his energy and enthusiasm into his painting after emerging from his nervous breakdown.

"It was a glorious flowering of a talent he always possessed, but he had chosen to rock out first, paint later."

Weezer was founded in 1992 by lead singer Rivers Cuomo. They have released nine full-length albums and have sold more than nine million records in the United States.

The band was due to play Chicago later Sunday, and on their website said the show would go ahead.

"Mikey would never want the rock stopped on his account -- quite the contrary in fact. While we won't see him, we know he will be there rocking out with us!"

  5. Love the musical triple whammies, Wilco, on Wilco, by Wilco...or perhaps Bad Company's hit Bad Company off of Bad Company. Seems like I once knew alot more, anybody care to share?

'Alot' means 'tough' in Indonesian. In English it means 'I'm semi-literate at best.' :monkey

  6. Surely a sad thing. It's interesting that geniuses are often difficult and troubled people. Jay seemed a gentle soul.

It's sad that things never got reconciled between Jay and Jeff. Especially sad that every story seems to mention the litigation as the closing item. I certainly hope his legacy will be the magnificent musical collaboration and not the acrimony that ended it.

  7. Vibes, dude. I have to get a passport soon, and I am afraid the State Department will say, "Sorry, sir, you are just too much of a badass to be allowed to leave the country."

Hell...if I got a passport, then I can't imagine why anybody would have trouble getting one.

  8. In looking at the timing of things (The Portugese guys seeing the electromagnetic discharge and reporting it to Penny, Penny's boat showing up at the island...), I think that Penny know a LOT more about things that are going on than we have been shown.

  9. Maybe, maybe not. He was almost 30 years younger and had a different name.

Plus...just a bit of stereotyping here don't ya think. So he's gotta be Radzinsky cause he wears glasses, is poorly shaved and is bald?

    :D

  10. So I thought of a theory last night that, after further investigation turned out to be bunk, but I wanted to share it anyway. :P

I always thought that Radzinsky looked familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it, then Boomshanka! It hit me!

Remember Leonard Simms? The guy in the Mental Hospital that kept saying the numbers over and over? The blast made him go crazy!

    Look at the pictures:

    393px-5x14Radzinsky2.jpg Leonard.jpg

How come no one ever thought of this before?!?!?!

Then I read a little bit and was reminded that "Radzinsky ...worked with Kelvin Inman." then "committed suicide by putting a shotgun in his mouth and firing it"

    Or did he..... :shifty

Hurley would have recognized him in 1977.

  11. Here we go again, God forbid we be open to the idea that many like this album.

What is that, "too positive, must be a fan".

What is going to make people satisfied? If you are waiting for Pitchfork to call it the greatest dad rock album of all time I'm sure you only have to wait a few more weeks. Geez!

I am getting the feeling that it is a mark of uber fandom around here to be disappointed with EVERY Wilco release that isn't YHF. Are you guys too cool to just enjoy music? Sorry. That isn't fair. But I am new enough here to not know the pecking order and understand a lot of the dynamics around here that read like extremem snarkiness.

But I have been turining on people that I work with (including former touring musicians and 60ish fans) to the new CD. And is anecdotal evidence means anything, I have yet to hear any negative opinions. Except for here.

    Just saying...

  12. I can't imagine you guys are selfconcious enought to think about this.

If I find myself singing along, I don't wallow in ennui or hipsterness. I just fucking sing. And I will be doing it on loud nubers where everybody else is singing.

Now the really irritating shit? How about the hippy/hipsters who feel the need to hippy dance to some obscure opening act that lookslike they have been sleeping under a bridge before the show and have to clear a 40sqft circle around them because they are twirl dancing. Goddamnit but i HATE what MDMA has done to the behavior of folks who get high at shows. Yeah...I know you love me man, but STOP ACTING LIKE AN ASS HAT.

  13.

After reading the synopsis of The Invention of Morel, I can some really interesting possibilites that could tie into the story of our heroes. I like the comment about Jacob and the other guy being avatars of some greater biengs.

If Locke is really Deady McDirtnap, then his doppleganger must be an avatar because he has the memories of the dead Locke. But what will happen to the essence of the being that occupied the physical body known as Jacob? Better watch out Frank...

  14. I'm sure Conan's a true fan, but GON has a point - the only person in the entire history of entertainment to say a bad word about Johnny Carson's act is Howard Stern.

Stern is such a narcissistic egoist that he cannot comprehend why he isn't REALLY the king of all media.
