  1. Might someone be looking to get rid of a pair for the show in Dublin on September 8? My wife is turning 60 next month and I may have sold her on a trip to Ireland and Spain with a Wilco show if that works out. Thanks, happy summer!
  2. The son of a friend texted me last night and asked me if I knew this band (knowing my passion for Wilco). He does lights professionally sice graduating college and did lights for Wilco in Omaha last night. Had to view from the side of the stage but said it sounded great and the light show was very cool. Trying to post a couple pics, but the server keeps returning them. I'll try again later
  3. Here's the link to George Saunders's liner notes, published at the New Yorker: https://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/liner-notes-for-jeff-tweedys-warm?mbid=nl_Daily%20092418&CNDID=11521917&utm_source=Silverpop&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Daily%20092418&utm_content=&spMailingID=14305130&spUserID=MjAyMjkwNTEzMjk3S0&spJobID=1481955315&spReportId=MTQ4MTk1NTMxNQS2
  4. Hey. Turns out she broke 3 ribs and developed pneumonia from shallow breathing. She is doing better since last week, though. The dog, however, is still dead...
  5. I had all intentions of going to that show, but our 5 year-old dog had to be put down rather suddenly and my wife broke a rib while - of all dopey things - trimming the Christmas tree. I could't in any conscience leave her home alone after that load of shit. Hope he comes back through here. Cool little venue, no? You live in New Haven?
  6. Saw the Lips at the College Street Music Hall last night - what an amazing show!
  7. All of these would tickle me greatly. I've seen Courtney at a small club nearby and she was great. Mark Mulcahy played SS several years back so I could see Miracle Legion as a real possibility. I would definitely love to see them; they were a local favorite here in New Haven back in the day. Never seen the Lemonheads but would love that too. Oh the possibilities!
  8. Bongo Fury, indeed, a musical awakening for me at the age of 15. I read an interview with Gary Lucas a while back in which he kind of trashed their collaboration, stating that Zappa seemed to have Beefheart on a metaphorical leash as kind of an oddity on stage. An interesting read about working with Beefheart is Bill Harkleroad's book "Lunar Notes", which I believe is still in print.
  9. Caught The Specials at Terminal 5 in NYC this past Friday and it was a blast. It was hot as hell in that club, but everyone was dancing.
  10. Just caught that on 89.1 in CT.
  11. Nice article at Vox, too: http://www.vox.com/2016/8/23/12575952/tragically-hip-last-concert If you watched and you weren't profoundly moved by Gord's emotional moment at the end of "Grace, Too", you have a heart of stone.
  12. Not heard but seen: in this month's Smithsonian magazine there is an article on psychedelic posters of the 60s and the poster art still being produced today; there was a mention of Wilco.
  13. Hey! Any idea on anyone with an extra ticket? I tried like crazy to get tix for any of the Terminal 5 shows but no go. The f-ing scalpers had a ton of them on sale for $110 and up immediately. Kurt Vile at the College Street Music Hall last night - great! Can't understand most of what he sings, but the music is great. Xylorous White opened and was worth getting there early for. A duo - drums and bouzouki - very Greek/Middle Eastern trance kind of stuff and some all out jams.
  14. Thanks all. Steve was quite moved, as were we all. What an amazing bunch of people in and around this band!
  15. That was us. One of my best friends, Steve (the guy who turned me on to UT and Wilco and introduced me to my wife) tragically lost his 18 year-old son this past July. His name is Ryland Ward. It was the first time that our families were together since Ry's passing; I had emailed a request to the good people at dBpm and it was forwarded to the band, who graciously dedicated the song to him. We all had a good cry and sang badly and loved the sonic cleansing of live Wilco - just the tonic. It was beautiful, we can't thank Jeff and the guys enough. George P
  16. Scratch that, this is the one I wanted to post: https://youtu.be/7tWyIug2qP0
  17. Being a fan of Adrian Belew, I particulary love this one as well. Bowie poached Belew from Zappa's band and, apparently, Zappa wasn't to thrilled about it.
  18. This past year I posted a positive review about a Courtney show I'd seen in a little club in Hamden, CT, and got a smartass response. Good to see someone else here appreciates her!
  19. My 20 year-old daughter flew to Spain by herself last night; apparently an unpleasant experience with heavy turbulence and and a kid who kept raising and lowering his seat, hitting her in the knees all night. She switched plains in Madrid to fly to Seville and Air Iberia played "Jesus, etc." and "Please Be Patient With Me." Jess said it was a real comfort after a crappy flight.
  20. Thanks to those who posted the revised link. I would have been SOL otherwise and I live minutes away from the College Street Music Hall. So, I got 4 for us and a friend and his girlfriend and my wife got 2 for our daughters. Though I've taken my wife to a show and both daughters to one show (the younger Wilco fiend has been to 3 now), this will be our first family Wilco show!
  21. I always have problems with the fucking presales. The theater sale is Friday. I may give myd aughter my credit card and tell her to go to the box office (provided, of course, that they will be available there). This sucks
  22. College Street is a nice venue, but I think they'd play Hartford again before coming back to New Haven. The Bushnell is larger and they've played a couple of great shows there. That having been said, I really don't think they'll be coming through CT on this leg. Perhaps early next year. We live in New Haven, too, by the way. My daughter suggested writing Tony Margherrita and pleading for another show. Can't hurt, right?
  23. If someone has a singleton for Saturday, please contact me. We had written it off due to a lot of travel plans this summer, but I can't miss all of this. George P
  24. I was right behind this guy and nice and dry in my Gore-tex rain suit. Watch the weather and plan. You can get a cheap rain suit from Cabelas for as little as $15.
