  1. I just read the Vulture review and the reviewer mentions Graham Coxon in this quote "Nope” crams stuttering bits of riffs into the margins, the lead guitar coughing and spitting over the tune like Blur ax-man Graham Coxon did on “Coffee & TV." On my first full listen to Schmilco I mentioned to Via member Linclink that it reminded me in many ways of Blur's 13 album which has always been a favorite of mine. I would love to know if anyone else hears similarities in the sonic balance between these two albums. Hope all you West Coasters are enjoying this wonderful run.

  2. For instance, what happened to the electric Spiders? This was a song that people used to go completely apeshit for, especially during the breakdowns. Lately, I've observed very little pogoing, headbanging or much of anything.  :hyper

Hey bbop I was listening to an early spiders last night from 9/4/03 and commented to my better half that as much as I love hearing this being fleshed out live with this lineup, the current lineup puts you into a tear your hair out pogoing frenzy when the breakdown finally comes. Although I think I may actually enjoy listening to Jeff building to the breakdown with those beautiful notes drenched in just enough feedback that you know rapture is on its way. Kinda like the pause right after the "at least that's what you said". That small moment before Jeff crunches the first baump...bawdawdababaump. You know you're just about to be taken to the altar.

Thank you for all your reporting. It means everything to be able to live vicariously through the words of someone who cares enough to share an obsession.

  3. This is a great post! I would say the first show would have been U2 and The Alarm at the Pier '83 and it was a great show. I was 13 and my sister was awesome! I saw a bunch of U2 shows from '85-87 and then kinda moved on. The first time the hair really stood up on my neck though and electrified the crap out of me was Bad Brains at the Ritz in '86. HR had that kinda effect.

  4. Hey y'all I was in the kitchen listening to albums this morning and pulled out an old favorite. Karate the bed is in the ocean. Does karate do anything for anyone else here? I absolutely loved this band and one of my fondest memories was a double bill of karate and gbv mid 90's. If anyone enjoys them Let me know. I would love to hear about it. Thanks!

  5. Listening in on the radio both panthers and dark neon were so well performed you would never think they first full band debuts but with this band any height is obtainable! Who was ripping though leads on acoustic during im the man? Nels was on dobro so was it john or jeff? In portchester john was slinging 12 string. Would someone let us know? I ask because they were ripping through that tune with a fervor.

Happy Holidays everyone and thanks for reports.

  6. Totally agree. My favorite run is still the Kicking TV shows at the Vic. 4 nights with super similar setlists filled with almost all AGIB and YHF songs and almost no songs from their back catalog.

I agree with that also. Kicking TV run is my favorite stuff to listen to. Nels solo's on Muzzle during those runs could make you tear your hair out. I also agree that a AGIB and YHFT filled  show is my favorite also.

  7. Can anyone that went to the show last night provide any info on seating for general admission tickets?  Was there a long wait to get into the theater?  We're leaving straight from work and weren't sure if we'd have time to grab food beforehand if we wanted a reasonable spot.

    Can't wait!

We left Central Jersey at 4:30 and miraculously were at the Theater at 5:45. We ate right next door at the Mexican Restaurant and line at 6:50 PM was very short to get in. I went in at 7:05 and got posters 34-35 so line was not crazy to go in. No seats at all for general admission. We stood 30 feet back from Nels and room was reasonable between people. the Theater workers were really really nice from my experience. See ya there and have a great time!

  8. Last night was really, really a night to remember.  My requests for the show were Wilco the song in the comment section I put "Because Wilco does love me baby!"  Pot Kettle Black and Hotel Arizona. The first 7 songs were a whirlwind. The SG's were out in full force and in some ways the song list made me feel like we were back in 2007. I had never caught On and on and on and it was tearful to say the least to watch Jeff animated as he was during it.  A balanced show with sprinklings or everything except a lot of Whole Love love. See y'all tonight!

  9. Nice set list! A little bummed that I went to wilcoworld to check for it first and decided to request Pot Kettle Black for Tuesday night and Bam! here it is! Highly doubt 2 nights in a row on that. Hopefully though Jeff and Nels will have me dabbing tears from a beautiful muzzle. A night filled with AGIB songs would be heavenly for sure. See y'all during the week ahead. Everyone be safe and have a wonderful time!

  10. I was at the Montclair shows and they were the 2 of the best nights of music I have ever witnessed. Thanks for answering the Kel Kroydon question. What did Jeff use for "At Least That's What You Said"? No SG on that? Hope everyone enjoys these wonderful nights! See Y'all in Port Chester!

Ha! I just realized there wasn't a "At Least That's What You Said" I got ahead of myself! Too excited I guess.

  11. Looks like it's only been done live by the full band five times previous to tonight, twice on the "Evening With" tour in 2010 (in Montclair, NJ and Pittsburgh) and then three times in 2003 when the MLTM EP had just come out. So just twice before with the current lineup...

And Jeff used the Kel Kroydon guitar on it, which I think somebody asked about in the thread for Night One. He's not playing it quite as often as at Tweedy band performances, but it's definitely part of the acoustic rotation.

On the topic of guitars, I did notice that Jeff doesn't seem to be playing some of his usual SGs on this run. He seems to be using a red semi-hollow body (possibly an Epiphone EA-250?) on some of the songs he would normally use an SG. Also, to the likely dismay of at least one VCer I know, no sign of the rainbow SG yet...
