OK, who had show 13 in the "professional show" pool?...

I'm struggling to reconcile my opinion with all of the "Great show!" and "Unbelievable!" comments I overheard on the way out...

...disregard my dumb commentary and maybe let me take a mulligan. But I just thought that the ingredients were fairly ripe for a professional-type gig...

...why does Wilco feel like the fuddy-duddy band on this tour, especially when compared with Sleater-Kinney?

I just couldn't get past the feeling that maybe Wilco has become the stodgy old elder statesman...

Wilco's set was pretty much what we've come to expect for now...

...it's a set designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator of Wilco fans ...

Whether you thoroughly enjoyed it or thought it was lacking, remember I'm just one dummy among many, so take all these words with a grain of salt, as I would always hope you would.

Wilco fans reading this who were at the KC show 11 days ago, and didn't get to see their favorite band play even ONE song: :frusty

(I'm mostly joking. If I had the ability to see the guys for multiple shows, I'd likely quibble about some things as well.)

  2. I was at the KC "show", so I'd be happy to have seen ANY setlist.

Wilco has a tough job pulling from a deep catalogue of great music, while also trying to please most fans that show up, and also pleasing the 6 band members.

R.E.M. was similar. On their Up tour, I'd rather have heard Belong, Flowers Of Guatemala & Fretless than Man On The Moon, Losing My Religion & It's The End Of The World As I Know It.

I'd like to see a song of just Jeff & guitar...Future Age, Lonely One, Solitaire, etc. Die-hards would go bonkers if Dreamer In My Dreams was played. Or if Nels & Jeff came out to play Dash 7. Kicking Television, I Might or Hesitating Beauty would sound fresh. I think Just Say Goodbye is the highlight of Schmilco & You Satellite is the highlight of Star Wars.

  3. Sleater-Kinney was GREAT. They really did make the most of their short set & their outward joy & enthusiasm in how they played was the highlight of the night. Love the guitar riff, drumming, and vocals of "Jumpers". Fun song.

Credit for Wilco for the mini show on Instagram. It was noisy inside where we were, so really couldn't hear much from our phones, but 'A' for effort to the guys.

At the end of S-K's set, soaked head to toe, I rushed to the merchandise table to buy a dry shirt, but for whatever reason the 2 workers said they weren't selling any longer.

Not being able to see Wilco take the stage stinks, but I think even more frustrating....knowing the whole reason we were all gathered outside was because the show got moved from the Midland Theater....was the feeling that Covid is calling the shots again.

REFUNDS? Haven't been able to get a response from AXS. Any word from Wilco headquarters?

Honestly, I'm kinda "whatevs" about it. Just a freaking bizarro weather event for mid-August in KC.

I've gotta think Wilco will do KC right, and tack us on to whatever tour they hopefully string together in '22.

Also saw on FB that a card or negative test will be required to enter

For an upcoming Virginia show, this true, but don't think it will be required tonight.

    (I could be wrong).

I've been watching that as well.  It will really suck if they can't play.  I'm going to see them not SK.

    Ditto!

(No offense to Nnamdi & Sleater-Kinney, of course).

  6. (Hoping Wilco's management sees this)...

Tonight's forecast shows heavy rain & storms creeping in from the North around 10:00.

It'd be a bummer if Wilco's set got cut in half, so just throwing this out there...maybe the bands' start times can be bumped up?

Wilcoworld posted last night’s setlist under the show info. I never thought of checking there, until someone mentioned it. I didn’t see anything either on the places that you brought up.

Ok. Great. Thanks for the fyi.

How is it no one on here has reviewed this yet?!

Also, Google & Twitter provide zero info on last night's concert in Montana. Usually I can find at least a mini-review from a local attendee.

  10. I remember when mp3's of final versions of YHF songs began popping up online. "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" was the first mp3 I heard. The Big Star "Kangaroo"-like drum intro had me mesmerized. I musta listened to it 15 times straight over the course of that day & night.

  11. I like the sound of "Pecan Pie"...comfortable.

Food musta been on the mind of Jay or Jeff when naming "Pieholden Suite".

"Spiders singing in the salty breeze"....?....that's a stretch.

    Chinese Apple.

Hey Chicken (....hanging on a sour grape vine)

A Slim Jim is referenced in "I Might".

That's all I got. I think it's high time Jeff writes a song or 2 about food he loves. Chicago pizza, oatmeal with bananas, that Strawberry Pretzel salad that's popular around Thanksgiving....just throwing some ideas out there.

-- Susie mentions that Jason Bateman said that he loves Wilco on his podcast today.

This was from Bateman's "Smartless" podcast with Sean Hayes & Will Arnett. Darius Rucker was their guest, whom I found to be an entertaining listen. Bateman said how much he loved Wilco, and I believe it was Arnett who chimed in that Tupelo was one of his favorites as well. That spurred Rucker to say how much he liked Son Volt, namely their first record Trace.

SIDENOTE: In the podcast, Rucker said how much he loves Barry Manillow. Not as a guilty pleasure, but just that he thinks he's damn good. I like that. And agree with him.
