  1. Cousin - Hmm. Interesting title considering that they took the stage to the Succession theme song last month and there’s a character called Cousin Greg. Or it could be a nod to some of the other most memorable cousins on tv shows: Cousin Balki, Cousin Oliver & Cousin It. The one thing that I think that connects all 4 characters are that they are outliers and I wonder if that plays into this record amongst the Wilco discography. {possibly pulled a muscle on that stretch}

Songs: As others here have mentioned, a few of them have debuted on The Tweedy Show & Starship Casual. I feel like I’m Kind Of In Love With You and Say I Love You Again could be on here, but got retitled to an unrecognizable title. I listened to those two again over the past week, since this news broke and not one lyric comes up in the ten song titles on Cousin. Maybe it is on there. I didn’t recognize The Plains when I scanned the Cruel Country track list against the unreleased Tweedy Show songs.

Sunlight Ends was performed on Danny’s front porch. That was a beauty. Infinite Surprise was performed a few times on the couch. I have a faint memory of the song taking a new direction in the last half of the song, whenever he played it the second time. Others have covered ground with the songs that we definitely know.

Reddit rumor: a certain someone (Solid Sound & SBS alum) produced the record.

I’m looking forward to this record dethroning Cousin Greg & Cousin Balki as my favorite Cousin.

  2. The Tweedy Show Sunday January 29 Episode 219

—Spencer welcomes the clients to The Tweedy Show.

—Susie & Jeff  say “hello” to the clients.

—Susie checks in with Peter via Alexa.

—Susie mentions that this is a surprise Tweedy Show.

—Peter’s telephone is ringing via Alexa.

    —Jeff mentions that he’s rehearsing with Spencer for the Cayamo cruise on Friday February 10th. [ www.Cayamo.com ] {cruise is from Feb 10th - Feb 17th}

Venus (Television cover with Spencer on drums)

—Jeff talks about the late Tom Verlaine. He says that Tom Verlaine gets a lot of accolades for changing the way a lot of people look at guitar, but he changed the way that he looks at writing songs. He says that Venus is a perfect song.

—Peter’s Echo got disconnected which causes some glitching.

—Jeff smells something good which is a chocolate egg cream candle from David Handelman.

—Sammy checks in via FaceTime, before he goes to bed. He is eating Milk Duds. Jeff wants to do the dance from Matilda which Sammy thinks is the NFL theme song. Sammy & Jeff discuss a “bullshit” call from one of the NFL’s Championship games earlier today.

—Spencer shows a picture of Basil watching The Tweedy Show on his laptop.

—Jeff elaborates on the Matilda dance to Susie. Jeff clarifies that it’s the most recent version of Matilda with choreography and not the one from the 90s.

I Know What It’s Like (with Spencer on drums)

Houses (Elyse Weinberg cover with Spencer on drums & backing vocals)

—Susie & Jeff say “happy birthday” to Donna aka Kidsmoke.

—Jeff works through Mi Shebeirach on the guitar which is a request.

Mi Shebeirach (Debbie Friedman cover sung by Spencer)

—Spencer dedicates it to Max’s mother and family. Spencer also dedicates it to Tyre Nichols’ mother.

    Gwendolyn (with Spencer on drums)

—Susie says that she loves Gwendolyn which elicits a funny response from Jeff.

Half-Asleep (with Spencer on drums & backing vocals)

—Susie says that there was no warning for tonight’s show because it was not planned and you can watch them on the Stuffinourhouse Instagram page.

—Spencer asks if anyone listened to WilcoWorld radio and Susie gives props to Paul’s hourlong guest DJ special. Jeff talks about how fun it was to create that and the people that helped create it.

—Jeff does an impersonation of Bernie Sanders, while holding a doll of Bernie Sanders.

—Susie talks about “Grocery Store” Joe from The Bachelorette. She listens to his podcast and talks about a Better Health ad that played on his podcast regarding therapy and his response to it.

—Spencer tells a story about seeing a YouTube clip of Jeff talking about picking him up after school right after 9/11. Spencer says that the comments on the YouTube clip think that a 6 year old Spencer would never say such deep comments about 9/11. Jeff theorizes why people would leave such negative comments on a poignant YouTube clip.

    Reincarnation (Roger Miller cover)

—Jeff thanks Justin for the Aquarium Drunkard hat which he was wearing for the duration of the show.

Well, that was a pleasant surprise as I checked my phone’s battery to see a notification from Stuffinourhouse.

  3. One more thing…they do some cool releases for the official fanclub which is expensive when you consider it can be just a single audio disc or a DVD @$40.

This collectible cd set of unreleased live versions of Achtung Baby was announced exactly a year ago. Ok. We didn’t get an official track list until last September. Lol. Then it took two more months for 2 song downloads to show up. Anyways, my gift appears to be coming to me on the last day of February. Lol!

I laugh because around this time of year, they’re supposed to announce the 2023 gift. A couple of years ago the gift was a live concert from Berlin 2018 which was awesome and way better than a book or vinyl, in my opinion.

Lastly, the real gem of this set is a rare live solo acoustic version of So Cruel taken from the outdoor Zoo TV show in Detroit’s Silverdome. It’s simultaneously exciting & frustrating that they have tons of shows recorded. Will ever ever see

them or hear them? It’d be a nice cash flow for them. Also keep in mind that they don’t have a live show presence at all on U2’s Sirius XM channel, like Pearl Jam does.

Mr. u2roolz - are you going to post about the new U2 album?

😏I will, but with a severe lack of enthusiasm. I don’t know if you remember, but I mentioned this “new” record back in the fall when it was supposed to be released alongside Bono’s book in November. It would’ve been a perfect holiday release for a Xmas gift, but releasing it in the middle of March makes little sense to me.

I view it as an obvious cash grab and the timing is kinda strange. They’re supposed to have a residency at the Sphere in Vegas in the fall and I can’t see how an “acoustic” record plays into a stadium show, hence why the whole things feels oddly placed. Maybe release it for the holiday season of 2023, after the residency in Vegas. I keep hearing that they will utilize the groundbreaking technology of the Sphere to focus on some sort of Zoo TV tribute or “reimagining”.

I feel the same way about Jeff Tweedy’s Together At Last. I listened to it once and that was it. I love seeing his solo shows for the acoustic versions of his amazing music and hearing his witty banter, but something about releasing acoustic versions of your songs as a record doesn’t do anything for me. Maybe it’d better if it was a “gift” for his Substack subscribers, if we could go back in time.

The coolest news that I heard about U2 recently was that they are upgrading all of the raw footage of Rattle & Hum to 4K. What do they plan on doing with that? I have no idea. Maybe release it to their YouTube page. Or include it in some 35th anniversary this year. That’s one record that hasn’t gotten the anniversary treatment and I’d rather spend money on that, instead of “acoustic” reworkings.

I found an excellent audience recording on YouTube of Bono’s show which I sadly missed (search: Bono San Francisco 2022.) He seemed to show up and meet fans at the entrance of the venues on that tour. That would’ve been amazing. There’s footage of him interacting with fans outside the entrance of the Boston Orpheum.

Bono’s show is pretty cool. I think the reworked songs work well with just him on the stage, but he tells his story in a well paced manner…for the most part. A few parts lag.

I’m also extremely surprised that he’s going to do a residency at the Beacon in NY for 7 or 8 nights, instead of taking the show on the road. I’ve heard that two shows were filmed this past November: NY & Dublin. Maybe they’ll show up on a streaming service or somewhere else. It could be for footage for Letterman’s Netflix series, My Next Guest, for which Bono is going to be a guest in the next season.

Then there’s the whole business with Larry Mullen, jr. possibly sitting out the Vegas residency, due to his back issues. I feel like this is the beginning of the end for them. He started the band and he can end it. Either way, the stuff that’s planned for the next few years feels like a swan song: that 40 song “acoustic” record in March, a Vegas residency in the fall, a new album whenever and that Netflix biopic series in 2024ish.

@u2roolz - "Nothing New" and "Evicted From Your Heart" are two different songs. I don't believe "Nothing New" was played tonight at Largo (night 4) on the Tweedy show.

Yeah, I made an edit which didn’t save for some reason. Then I edited it yet again to mention that “Nothing New” is listed as Having A Hard Time on WilcoWorld.

The title Nothing New is claimed to have been seen from a setlist for the show on the 5th. That’s where the issue came from. I took a look over at Setlist FM to look into the new songs to see if anyone saw a setlist.

I deleted it all figuring no one would ever see it. Lol! It got confusing. Guess it’s always best to check WilcoWorld over Setlist FM.

edit: I guess it could be any song, actually. As far as I remember, Jeff uses a list of songs (in no particular order) to choose from during his solo shows. So maybe it is a new song that he hasn’t gotten around to playing yet. Or Setlist FM is wrong.

—Sammy welcomes the clients to The Tweedy Show.

—Susie is upset that she sees her reflection in the tv.

—“Hi, everyone! We forgot how to do a show.” - Susie

—Peter says “Hi, there!” from the Amazon Alexa.

    — Susie explains to Jeff that saying “D-i-a-n-e” will cause Instagram to glitch.

    — Susie shows Steven Keene album art.

    Little Lies (Fleetwood Mac cover)

  8. I knew that this was coming at some point and I guess it just got announced on Thursday that the second half of Season 5’s episodes would drop on Friday.

Jeff was hilarious in the episode and hats off to Nikki Glaser for being a genuine fan. Super cool singalongs and chemistry amongst the 4 (at one point 5) talented folks in the car. Felt like natural conversations interspersed with some singing and a fun ending.

A bit too short though, but I’m still shocked that Jeff was driving the car. I seem to remember James Corden being the one that always drove around the celebs, when he’d do the bit on his show. There’s something badass about Jeff driving and singing and cracking jokes. John & Glenn bring some Laurel & Hardy energy. [no mention of the missing members. Kinda like when they switched Darrins on Bewitched and never said anything about it. Horrible analogy.]

Certainly something that should get new eyes & ears on Wilco for many reasons. Enjoy it! 👍

Right. I was just hoping I could add the show to my itunes library, but there's apparently no way to buy and download. Unlike the front of house and roadcase, I guess those NOLA shows are only streamable?

I’m still seeing the option to buy the show, but still nothing works when I click on it. What happens when you try to “add to cart”? It allows me to select the audio format,  but stalls there.

I saw it last week and thought it was great.  It looked great on the big screen too, and I think some of that will be lost at home unless you really have a top notch, huge TV. I do not have such a TV.  Netflix is nuts to pull this from theaters after only one week.

I’ve been saying that I would not be surprised at all if Netflix ships it back to theaters for another week starting on the 9th of December. Nothing really comes out on that weekend. Sony is releasing a PG-13 cut of Father Stu that day (originally came out in April) and The Whale hits arthouse theaters.

I kept my eyes on Top Gun: Maverick and thought that it was going to be around this past holiday weekend, but the theaters around here that held onto it this long lost it two days before Thanksgiving to make room. I woke up to news this morning that it’s coming back to theaters around the country this Friday. 😂 I have to laugh because it seems foolish to lose it for such a big weekend. Oh well…

Maybe I’ll PM you my issues with Glass Onion. I don’t want to tempt anyone to read the spoiler tag.

  11. I went to see Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery yesterday afternoon. Every showing was sold out from Wednesday through Sunday evening. I really enjoyed it and (looks for spoiler tag)

    Spoiler

I had an issue with a few things that happened in the film. I won’t spoil it in the spoiler tag, but I don’t think I’ll be the only one that questions a few things & the logic of it all.

A lot of mental gymnastics are required, while we are presented with the main mystery and the relationships amongst the characters/suspects.

I thought that this film was a lot more intricate and will be interesting to see if the film actually allows for rewards with repeat viewings or if things won’t stick. It still was the most fun that I’ve had at the cinema all year. Everyone was great, especially Kate Hudson and Ed Norton.

I do want to track down The Last Of Sheila which I heard was a big influence on Rian Johnson’s film.
(Available on Netflix Friday December 23rd.)

I recently subscribed and streamed the Oct 4 (night #1 in Nola), and I have to say that, for me personally, it is one of my favorite Wilco live recordings I've ever heard. Does anybody know where I can access a download of this show?

Both live streams are still available on the app. Plus, they also added the audio for both shows.

here’s the link to buy the audio of the first show…

    https://www.nugs.net/live-download-of-wilco-civic-theater-new-orleans-la-10-04-2022-mp3-flac-or-online-music-streaming/30137.html

    [edited to add info about the link] {I tried buying the show for the heck of it and nothing happens. It does say “Add To Cart” and lists “Format”, but nothing happens for me. Maybe it’s because I’m on my iPhone and not a computer.}

Nugs has shows on sale for 25% off. I just stream everything, but I guess that it’s nice that there’s always the option to buy a show and make a cd out of it.

Wilco’s quarterly Front Of House selection is due up tomorrow. I wonder which era it’ll be.

That was really something else. Transcendental. Love it when they dust off a few gems and play certain songs in the same show that doesn’t really happen much nowadays. It really felt like a Night 2. Plus, a few interesting omissions. Great production all around! 👌👍

I try not to use the word hate but I really disliked their version of Heroes. Can't stand solo Morrissey either. I do like the Cure a lot. We'll find out tomorrow what the setlists are going to be like for the European tour. I hope they include some of the alleged new material but if I were betting on it I would guess Wish 30. & the Cure were talking about the new record in 2016. I suspect Robert might smoke a lot of pot & you know that can make you a bit lazy. Combine that with perfectionist tendencies, it's a nightmare to get anything done. Reeves Gabrels is one of my favorite guitar players & I'm dying to hear what he comes up with in the studio with the Cure. I saw 2 shows in 2016 & Reeves was amazing,. Him & his wife are really nice people to boot.

I’ll definitely check every setlist for them. They’re very generous with variety and deep cuts, as you know. Extremely curious to see what they have in store.

2016, eh? I guess that makes sense. That was the year of their last proper U.S. tour.  And before that they were around in 2008 with their last album. I guess I last heard about a new record in 2019 and not 2018 like I originally thought. The pandemic makes sense for any delay.

Last time I saw Robert Smith was on one of those Zoom benefits for Chicago in 2020. Jeff also performed.

For some reason I can't stand DM. Just never really struck a chord with me. Too mopey I think. I like depressing music but with DM it just seemed put on to me. It's nothing like my psychotic dislike of anything to do with the Hateful Fred (GD) though, haha. More power to you if you like them. Just don't try to hijack the site like the Fredheads do, haha.

I would argue that Robert Smith & Morrissey are way more mopey, but I still love the both of them. Speaking of Robert Smith, I feel like I’ve been reading about a new Cure album for the past 4 years. I did notice that they’re starting a tour this week.

Anyways, I’d recommend their Devotional Tour concert video. Gahan isn’t in the best frame of mind at all, but they sound so fucking amazing on that tour. And the stage show is something else.

Most of the past 5 tours going back to 2001 all blend together in terms of setlist & stage production, but they still put on a great show.

Gahan’s voice is still smooth and fantastic. He did Bowie’s Heroes justice on the last tour.

  20. Depeche Mode 2023 U.S. tour dates

    03/23 Sacramento, CA @ Golden 1 Center
03/25 San Jose, CA @ SAP Center
03/28 Los Angeles, CA @ Kia Forum
    03/30 Las Vegas, NV @ T@Mobile Arena
    04/02 San Antonio, TX @ AT&T Center

04/07 Toronto, ON @ Scotiabank Arena
04/09 Quebec City, QC @ Videotron Centre
04/12 Montreal, QC @ Centre Bell
04/14 New York, NY @ Madison Square Garden

Not too surprised to see them skipping Boston, but maybe they’ll come around in the fall for a second leg. Extremely brief tour though.
