Looks like they skipped the September release, or did I miss something?

I posed the same question over in the Facebook group and no one replied with the answer that I was seeking.

My guess is that they put one of the Road Cases back on and it’s tough to realize which one wasn’t there before.

Or as you said they simply forgot! Lol

  2. Excellent news!

PS…I asked about the Half Life/I Can’t single and they are also selling that one.
$28 for both which includes shipping. A bit odd to email them directly to get the ball rolling, but I’m just glad that they’re being offered.

That's an excellent documentary. I watched it a while ago and now I forgot how I accessed it. Did you have to pay for it? How did you watch it?

I think there was a Western Mass movie theater that had it available to rent online via their website. I never watched it, but I’ll certainly look for it. I’m in NH, so I get the Mass & NH PBS channels. I’ll let you know, if I see it on there.

Oh! Thank you for the heads up!

  5. David Lowery’s The Green Knight is one of the most visually stunning films in years. It’s also what I would consider to be one of the best films this year. (Available in theaters & on VOD for $19.99. Price should drop on October 12th same day as Blu-ray release in the U.S.)

    Reincarnation (Roger Miller cover)
-- Susie tells the clients to stay tuned to see when the next episode will be. Jeff thinks that he might leave on Thursday or Friday for the next tour dates.

  7. I view the Substack subscription as a Jeff Tweedy boxset happening in real time. You get songs with some writings that one can consider liner notes. I know that it’s tied in more with the thinking that it’s stuff that could be an addendum to his book(s).

I have enjoyed everything so far that he has posted. There were a couple of songs that were complete surprises because they were never played on The Tweedy Show.

I can kinda see why folks would be upset about a subscription cost tied to this venture, but try to take these changes in the arts & entertainment industry in stride. I guess a rational fear would be that everyone that you love follows suit and you’re subscribing to 30 plus musicians. You could probably sub for a month later in the year and hear/see what you missed.

What else can I say about this show in Boston? Well, it was a return to the [insert sponsoring bank name here] Pavilion, for one. Is it possible that the band hasn't played there since 2007?

Yes! It’s pretty crazy, right? The NBA Draft was happening during that 2007 show and the Boston Celtics assembled the new Big 3 that night. It certainly feels so long ago, when you look at it through that lens.

I think the obvious reason for skipping  Boston in the summer is due to Solid Sound which I’m sure crossed your mind. I’m not complaining at all, as I feel extremely fortunate to be so close to Mass MoCa, but there definitely has been a lack of summertime Boston proper shows since Solid Sound came into the picture.

Ok, thanks for the info from that other place which shall not be named. But you really think there have been five unique setlists? I don’t think swapping around the order a bit really counts, although obviously with time constraints and stuff, things get often chopped up from what Jeff’s original plan is anyway.

If they kept the same exact setlist from Spokane, then I would say that you’re right. The way that I see it is that they’ve been adding and dropping songs at every show which to me makes it unique, even if there are a lot of songs that have been played at every show so far. It’s not anywhere on the same level as say Solid Sound, Sky Blue Sky or the Winterlude shows, but it’s pretty good.

  11. Thank you again for the recap!

I’m happy with how the setlists have been. There have been 5 shows and 5 unique setlists to my eyes. It looks like last night the order was shuffled around to keep you on your toes. Plus, who would’ve guessed that they’d be playing those songs from Sky Blue Sky again. The representation from that album has been so prominent I was thinking that it was the 15th anniversary already.

I did see a printed setlist over at the other place and 2 songs were dropped: What Light was sandwiched between I’m The Man Who Loves You and Heavy Metal Drummer. California Stars was the last song on there.

back in 2015 or so, when the Loft installation was part of Solid Sound, wasn't there a listening station with outtakes and unreleased studio recordings being played? I didn't spend much time at it and can't recall much obv, but am thinking there are leftovers to be plundered for sure.

I think those were outtakes from A Ghost Is Born. Or was it The Wilco Book? I guess they were sorta the same sessions.

I’m way more excited for a possible AGIB deluxe edition. I feel like we’ve heard everything from the YHF era with the 2 sets of demos that circulated, but I hope that’s not the case.

  13. Thanks for the recap and taping! Someone posted a really blurry pic of the setlist and it looks like The Late Greats and Spiders were on the setlist to open the encore.

That’s great news if they decide to release every show from this tour.

FWIW, I woke up last night at 3am on the east coast and I checked WilcoWorld for the setlist and it was there. It’s under the show info where they list the set times. That might be the new norm.

How is it no one on here has reviewed this yet?! (I mean, I know logisitically how it's possible).

Two new studio recordings from these guys is big news in my little world.

I agree! It’s really big news to have 2 new songs to listen to this year. Plus, the Sleater-Kinney cover.

I kinda want to ask over in the FB group, but that usually leads to asking if someone can post the song or if someone can pick up the vinyl. I’ll continue to be patient.

Also, Google & Twitter provide zero info on last night's concert in Montana. Usually I can find at least a mini-review from a local attendee.

Wilcoworld posted last night’s setlist under the show info. I never thought of checking there, until someone mentioned it. I didn’t see anything either on the places that you brought up.

  16. Weird that Nic Cage was also brought up in The Thin Red Line review, in regards to David Gordon Green’s Joe. I just saw Pig the other night and thought that it was great. Cage is really terrific here. I only knew of the basic plot. I told a friend it would be like if A24 had made the John Wick films. It has that type of rhythm to it. I won’t discuss the themes of the film because that would spoil the overall experience.
(Available to rent on VOD. It’s not $19.99 either which was a relief.)

To these eyes, The Thin Red Line is one of the greatest war movies; like many Malick movies, it's closer in spirit to poetry than traditional narrative, but it still manages to be cerebral and scary. It's not for everybody, of course. I remember exiting the theater and overhearing another filmgoer mutter, "That was the worst movie I've ever seen." (My heart went out to him... imagine going through life with such misguided taste!) I also have deep affection for Malick's The New World, which is an entirely different creature when seen on a big screen. That was probably one of the most purely immersive experiences I've ever had in a theater. I felt transported to the New World, and I can still hear the sounds of that movie (especially the wind and the insects and the waves) ringing in my ears. The Criterion edition is worth every penny.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I saw this when I was about 20. I went out to a theater that was playing it in December, before it hit a wider release in January. My mind was completely blown. The score, the cinematography, the narration. I didn’t think that you could make a war film like that. Keep in mind that Saving Private Ryan had just come out 5 months prior, so this was a completely different experience. It didn’t bother me at all that certain actors had one or two scenes and then they disappeared from the film. That felt very realistic to me.

I’ll show some love for Cusack who I thought was awesome in his 15 minutes of screen time. He led the charge up the hill and he had that classic silent showdown with Nolte about getting water to the soldiers. Koteas was great too.

One of the best deleted scenes involved Clooney and Ben Chaplin who was terrific. It’s too bad that Adrien Brody had most of his lines cut, but his facial expressions somehow work for the film. Then there’s that long list of actors that also had their scenes cut. I read somewhere that Malick had assembled a 6 hour cut and I always wondered if it would ever be shown to the public. It felt like it would never ever happen. Maybe a streaming service could get him to release it. I don’t think he’d go for an episodic approach, like Tarantino did with the extended cut of The Hateful Eight.

I’m also a huge fan of The New World which I also saw in a theater. I own the Criterion and haven’t watched the other 2 cuts on there. The Tree Of Life was another fantastic theatrical experience. I haven’t enjoyed his films after that as much. I caught Knight Of Cups at home and saw Song To Song in a theater. Both of which I’m willing to watch again. To The Wonder is another one that I found enjoyable, but a bit forgettable. Badlands & Days Of Heaven are both amazing though.

I think Disney is sitting on a lot of the 20th Century Fox films. That’s why most of them aren’t streaming. It’s just a matter of time, until they launch Star in the U.S.

I think the other single is actually a Wilco single, not a JT single (maybe Jeff's bonus single from LITK is there too?? But that's on the Wilco store too.) Someone posted pictures of it on the Facebook group, but I can't find it now because Facebook's search features are hot trash. But the A side was definitely Half Life, the Ode to Joy outtake Jeff had played on TTS. The B-side I didn't immediately recognize.

Here’s the Wilco single that you’re talking about. The b-side is I Can’t which I’ve never heard of either. It’s possible that it’s been played on TTS. I don’t have this in my hands, but I’m the one that asked about this other mystery 7 inch because Paul mentioned it in his recap.

Another person in the thread mentioned that there’s a bundle deal if you buy both 7 inch singles.

  19. Sometimes it pays off to be a night owl. I decided to check Nugs after midnight and was surprised to find that the 2008 Cain’s Ballroom show was added today. I don’t remember which songs from this show made it on the Ashes DVD, but the setlist looks killer. Off to listen to some of it now.
