  1. My love for this record can not be expressed. It took everything i love about wilco and married it with with the aspect of Loose Fur and Tweedy that I love so much. That confident, off-hand but complex, greasy guitars, instinctive melodies. God Damn this is good. Its been forshadowed enough (i might, LF, Tweedy) to feel right, but is enough of a departure to feel really exciting at the same time. More.., RNG, Satellite, Ceiling, Begin, Slope, King(the most loose fur of all), and magnetized all are amoung my all time favorite tweedy songs already.

Can't wait for intereviews and backstory on this.

I was REALLY worried at solid sound that there were no hints of ANY new material at all. Had me feeling like the anniversary tour was a thing on its own and then who knew what would happen... but i see now and admire that they (like Kot said this morning) were just backward focused for a period of time, and snapped back to the forward looking mode with this for sure.

  2. ha - no one submitted video? i had a whole thing just about ready to go but figured "eh, they'll be so overwhelmed with submissions" and never sent it, figures.

still - i think there was some reason beyond a lack of footage that they were limited in the stage setup. that said - i think the lighting they did use was fantastic.

  3. funny - i was at the boston show (admittedly my first time seeing them) and was pretty blown away - not at every turn (and agreed on fire away) (though that other new song - burn easy(?) that they played before western syline was amazing).

a lot of the newer stuff sounds like jackson brown to me - not all a bad thing, just an observation.

  4. my band - after a year of recording a bit here or there when we have money come in from a gig ($20-40 a pop) are just about finished tracking our new record - and after thinking and researching and debating, we've decided to try to save ourselves another year before we can mix/master/dupe and try goin with Kickstarter

if you don't know about it - its a pretty cool model, powered by amazon the band sets the goal they need to raise (say $5k) and then you set up price points where you give various rewards ($5 for a download single, $50 for a signed record, plus merch and tix, $300 for a house show, etc etc.) and you basically presell the CD or other prize packs hoping to raise the full amount by the deadline you set. if you dont reach the goal you get nothing.

so far we're off to a great start but still have a LONG way to go - its exciting and a lot of work to find ways of promoting it without seeming to be begging peoples help.

i'll certainly keep you all posted on how it goes. if you wat to see the page we set up or chexk out kickstarter in general its here: Rationales Kickstarter

  6. similar story here - no recollection of what year but it was a buffalo tom show in the 90s i'm sure - he just jumped up onstage between encores and started screaming into the mic - i just remember thinking - 'why is no one throwing this nut out?" so many great memories and so many great tributes online - a true original. :cheers
