  1. I have a screenshot and have DM’d the name to Magnetized.
  2. Maybe my favorite band of the past 5 or so years. Probably helps that I've hit my mid-30s and have a two year old, so I identify with a lot of the things he's singing about – see "Mahogany Dread."

  4. The tickets have been spoken for. Thanks everyone!
  5. Sent you a direct message.
  6. Hello all -- I won a pair of Solid Sound passes earlier this year in the Sukierae preorder contest, but due to a last minute conflict, I'm unable to attend. Bummer. But my loss is your gain. I want a real fan to use these bad boys, so the first person to respond gets the tickets. No strings attached.
  7. I've been struggling with this lately as well. I sold a big load in December but still have 800 to 1,000 discs on a big bookshelf and in some boxes. They take up way too much room for something I rarely pull out. Also, it may just be because IKEA has made storing vinyl so cheap and stylish, but sometimes I feel like records take up less room somehow, even though they're obviously bigger.
  8. Had no idea he had a new one out. Need to look for that immediately.

  10. Tim told us there would be a full band tour this fall with two drummers and the whole bit. Didn't say exactly who it would be though.
  11. I caught this tour in Dallas last week. One of the best shows I've seen in a long time... Honestly, I think the new songs were the best ones, too. I'm seriously stoked for this new record now. Seems like it will be more song-oriented and less sprawling than Funeral Singers... maybe closer to Roots & Crowns.
  12. I've got quite a week coming up: Tonight--Lucinda Williams Sunday--Jeff Mangum Tuesday--Calexico Saturday--Drive-By Truckers
  13. I think the first, independent pressing came out last year, but I'm counting it since I've played "Jesus Shot Me In The Head" more than any other song this year.

  15. Weird. I opened this thread and one of the first posts I see is about the book I'm reading right now. Small world, I guess. The writing in Rock Springs is beautiful, but damn... I read the story set on the train today at lunch and felt like I got punched in the stomach. Anyway, I'm headed to Colorado for the first time in a few weeks so I'm stocking up on bleak Western/nature writing. Picked up some Rick Bass last night, as I really liked his book Ghost Grizzlies. Anybody else have any mountain reading suggestions?
  16. My band got to open for these guys last year in Dallas. The crowd was sparse (late on a Sunday night) but they didn't act like it when they were on stage. The 20 or so people there got their money's worth and then some. Killer harmonies. Great songs. Can't wait to hear what they do next.
  17. Sure, everyone shares music. But a lot of us on here own hundreds, if not thousands of albums. This girl has only paid for 15 records in her entire life. And there's an entire generation just like her.
  18. A great piece by David Lowery on the cons of Free Culture. If you illegally download music or use spotify, give it a read (no judgement, I've done both myself). http://thetrichordist.wordpress.com/2012/06/18/letter-to-emily-white-at-npr-all-songs-considered/
  19. Crap. How'd I forget that one? So awesome.

  21. Man, this is crazy. I love "We're Just Friends." Classic melody, amazing production, heartfelt lyrics.
  22. I saw them at SXSW. I'd been a fan for a while (thanks to Aquarium Drunkard) and was worried they might not live up to my expectations, but it was easily one of the best SXSW sets I've ever seen. It's like Aretha fronting Led Zeppelin. Sure, the album doesn't live up to the live show, but they recorded it over a year ago, before they were a real touring band.
  23. You can't go wrong with any of their records. I'd start with Centro-matic--maybe All The Falsest Hearts Can Try, Fort Recovery or Candidate Waltz first--then move on to South San Gabriel and the solo stuff. But seriously, they're all stellar.
  24. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvAx2qagtlQ "Man, that's a great song. Awesome production, too. Who did it? We gotta work with that guy." --The Boss, 2010 Why didn't Little Steven say something? Nils? Anyone? How did this happen?!!!!!
