Y'know, I *would* listen to this record and probably *should* listen to this record, but I feel so snookered by the last several U2 offerings that I'm in full "don't get fooled again" mode.
-
Sweet Fancy Moses. If U2 is irrelevant, what the fuck is Sharon Osbourne?
Snort.
-
Whether the oblivion they fall into is collective or individual, "War" and "The Unforgettable Fire" are two of the best albums of rock, period. I commend them to your listening attention.
-
On the rare occasions that I play U2 it's either "All that you can't leave behind" or "Zooropa", but nothing else. I gave a couple of listens to this new album but I still prefer ATYCLB, I think it has aged pretty well.
But a new U2 album is always good news to folks in the music industry. It means a new cycle of touring and fans buying all sorts of merchandise and special editions.
"War" or "The Unforgettable Fire" don't do anything for ya?

U2 is done as a creative force. Done, and has been for the better part of 20 years. Coldplay, a band whose entire shtick is being U2 for people who are threatened by any music that's the least bit challenging or interesting, is more of a creative force than U2 is. This whole thing reminds me of the time when MSNBC was first getting started, like 1997 I believe, and I went down to Times Square and they had it playing on a giant screen. I said to my friend, "Well, that's ONE way to get people to watch MSNBC."
-
Yeah that is a good song that I also heard on the sat-rad, along with an introductory rant about the band's name from Newman of the New Pornographers.

I wonder if Garth will get any money from this?
I hope so, so he can pay his back rent to Mike Piazza.
-
Oh man. That sucked - what a loss.
-
Yeah, Let's Dance might have been his last quality record. Plus, it introduced many to the guitar stylings of Stevie Ray Vaughn.

But only love can break your heart. Try to be sure, right from the start.

"Let's Dance" is a pretty good record.
-
You can fine-tune it, but by and large, it's a gift.

it keeps people from clicking the link and reading the article on the site which is how most sites measure which writers attract readers and will therefore get paid accordingly
This is true - as a working journalist I support this message.

Lotti, are you on the wait list to take over the @sweden Twitter account? Would be a great platform for your theories.
-
Yeah - good story.
-
Yes - great writing. I feel like sending him a card or a bottle of booze or something.

Just finished this - was very impressed by how the author synthesized 400 years of North American history and, though his prism, made it all make sense.

I dunno. He looks about 46 about to turn 47, which I believe is exactly how old he is. If he shaved some, he would look younger, but what does he care? He's a rock star, for Christ's sake.

Get your head out of the gutter.

Meaning that you don't do anything - like me?
I have been seeing the same doctor for the last 15 years or so ---- I see him about every 1 1/2 to two years for a check up/physical and he always likes to play -- "do you want to know what you weighed when I first started to see you" game and rattles off my weight in two year increments and has a good chuckle. (but to my defense, my check ups has always been great - so he hasn't been too concerned)
At least I use to play softball during the summers -- this summer I didn't even do that ---- though that means my beer consumption has been down.
Granted, I've only been married two months, but I'm having some of the best workouts of my life this summer.
-
Yes, and a good thing too as I am a married man now.

My friends Zac and Monkey did an album about that very topic.

there's info here about it below. gilmour will also add vocals to it. there's a 20 minute sample of it - nothing to write home about. the division bell was ok, but this would be only for die-hard fans. my friend's massive fan, so i'll burn a copy from his
And deprive Gilmour and Mason of their royalties? My God man, how are they to eat?

Who is that, a cousin?
