  1. Dirty will find a way to screw this up. I mean Trent Dilfer won a super bowl but there is no way Sanchez gets through the next two weeks without messing this whole thing up. I'm not a Pittsburg fan but would find it quite humorous if the Jets knock off the Pats/Colts and fail to beat the Steelers.

  2. How is it that H-Bomb Harry has not come in yet to post about how the only reason the Jets won last night is because they cheated?

Wait for it. I mean Braylon did push off on that last reception. I didn't catch it til the replay so I'll give the refs the benefit of the doubt. But I'll put the blame on the Colts coach. The guy is out of his element and was outcoached by Payton in the superbowl and now Rex Ryan. Manning should do himself a favor and dump the Colts. Here we go again beat over the head with New York vs Boston. The sports world seems to never get enough of this game.

I'm guessing the Patriots will treat the Jets much like Roethlisburger treats his dates.

  3. First hand observations from a fantastic Saturday in A2:

    * There must have been a momentary dust storm during the pre-game festivities because my eyes started watering when this took place

    * Good Lord is Denard Robinson fast. And it was amazing watching how much his passing accuracy and pace has improved from last year. If it wasn't for the last incompletion, he would have set a Michigan Stadium record for pass completion percentage. I guess he is just going to have to settle for setting the single-game rushing record for a Michigan QB.

    * Michigan didn't escape the injury jinx - Carvin Johnson's knee injury looked pretty bad, and Roy Roundtree didn't come back into the game after taking a wicked shot after a reception. My seats at the stadium are right behind the visiting band, and when they brought Johnson off the field right before halftime, he sat in one of the seats for the band as they brought the cart over to take him into the lockerroom. The look of pain on his face was heartbreaking.

    * The defense looked pretty good most of the game, they gave up a lot of yards, but were pretty tough when they needed to be. Holding UCONN to only 10 points will look pretty good as the season wears on. I think UCONN is still going to be a contender in the Big East.

    * I'm still predicting 8 wins for this team, even if they don't knock off the Irish this week.

    GO BLUE!!! BEAT THE IRISH!!!

Rich Rod is doing great things for Michigan. It appears that they are adopting more of a "Gotta pencil get the fook in there" philosphy when it comes to building a football program". I'm expecting they should be able to compete with the SEC in a few years.

  4. I've never before seen a coach purposely demoralize a team. Who blows a chance to shut up the 72 Dolphins? And why do I cheer for teams who are coached by pussies with molestaches. That Colts game was horseshit.

The Patriots are playing awesome and the Colts are laying down. All in time for the playoffs. God Dammit I wish I was from New England.

  5. Until it relaxes its academic standards a little, that's the best Notre Dame can hope for.

Exactly. With the dissapearance of the student athelete, Notre Dame will never win in this environment. I actually liked Weis simply because his offense was fun to watch. And they lost very close games all year and I'm convinced if Weis would've had one more year with the same team the outcome would've been a bit different..maybe 2 or 3 losses instead of 6. Until they lower there standards to that of a community college they will never play for a national championship.

  6. This could be interesting. The Michigan football program failed to file the required logs of practice time for the 2008-09 season. Any of them.

Maybe Rodriguez will be taken down by this. Maybe not. Strictly from a football/results perspective, I still think it's too early to judge his success, or lack thereof -- next year is the first one that should really matter in that respect. But if he's responsible for major violations ... well, that's a whole different matter, especially for a program that likes to tout its "clean" reputation.

If the investigation finds violations, I will not defend Rodriguez by saying "everyone else does it," even though I suspect it's true.

    On a somewhat related note...

I still think it's time to end the myth of the "student athlete" and make what are now "scholarship" players into the equivalent of minor-league professionals while they play for the university -- give them free room and board and modest stipends. When their eligibility is used up, allow them to attend the university as students for the number of years that they served as athletes ... in other words, if you played for four years, you get four free years of college after your playing days are done. If you left for the NFL after your sophomore season, you only get two free years.

Under this model, the athletes would basically have full-time jobs playing for their teams, without any bullshit hand-wringing about their academics. Athletes should still be required to graduate high school and fulfill the entrance requirements for the university where they play -- but their enrollment would be deferred until after their athletic eligibility ends.

Since only a small percentage of athletes ever make it to the pros, this would provide a much better fallback position for kids who might not have taken their academics seriously enough as student-athletes. When their number never gets called on draft day ... well, at least they can go to college.

Better get Jimmy Hardballs before it's too late.

  7. Patriots dominated that game and I'm sure the outcome will be different if they meet in the playoffs. I have to question where the deep passes went to in the 2nd half. Belichick called off the dogs on that makeshift secondary.

  8. Brady seems to be "back", if he stays that way, things are shaping up for a Pats @ Colts AFC championship game

I've always wanted the Colts to get another shot at an AFC championship in Foxboro...even though common sense tells me that the Colts are not madeup to play on a field in those conditions in Jan. And Teddy Bruschi will just end up taunting the Colts after the game.

I don't think you can rule out Denver. That defense is great but at somepoint this season Kyle Orton will get back to reality.

  9. Colts will defintely drop 1 to Houston or Jacksonville. I'm guessing they'll drop 2 of 3 (Denver, Baltimore, or NE). And I agree there is a good chance they will bow out in the first round of the playoffs.

  10. Watching the Patriots run up the score on the Titans 3rd string DB's was great. It pretty much confirmed my suspicions that Bellichick would punch a toddler in the face to win a football game.

I really missed Tom last year and I'm glad that the NFL has created a rule that says you cannot tackle Brady or it's 15 yards.

  11. I was glad the Notre Dame - USC game raised my pulse quite a bit today, but I'm also glad our streak is still alive.

Eventually someone will expose Carroll for being a fraud and this streak will be nothing more than a bi-product of a stained era in USC football.

  12. Michigan looked really good on Saturday. Kind of like a team that has been conducting 2-a-days since March. I always love it how a coach is on the hot seat whether it be for losing or not following rules and then miraculously resurrects their standing with the faithful by winning. Have no fear though Michigan fans the NCAA will not make your team follow the same set of rules as a Purdue or Northwestern. This is the era of Taint Forcer

  13. My favorite Jay Bennett memory had to be when I saw he and Ed Burch, shortly after the split in some small bar in Cincy. The bar served great burritos. He was slamming Bloody Mary's before the show and finally took that stage about 1AM after Dolly Varden. He started taking up donations in an effort to make up for the night before. I guess the bar they were playing at kicked them out and refused to pay them. Someone then paid him 20 bucks to play Counting Crows which he did. He did a dead on impersonation. Prior to the show I remember playing some Elvis Costello on the jukebox which he proceeded to rock out to while slamming drinks.

Prior to the other day I hadn't thought about Jay Bennett in quite some time. Now I can't quit thinking about the guy. I feel bad about that.

  14. As much as I dislike Tom Sleazo I like the way his team plays. I'm getting a little tired of the whole down and out Detroit thing though. CBS wants me to believe that Michigan St. winning the tournament will make up for decades of corporate arrogance and bad decisions.

  15. I bought a house in July.

The central air unit quit, my insurance dropped me, my roof is leaking, the oven quit working, the word fuck was burnt into the carpet (the previous owner hid it with a rug).

I don't understand the excitement people feel when they move into a new home. The thought of a 30 year mortgage made me want to vomit.

My wife says I'm negative so my opinion means nuthin.

On a positive note it is a great time to buy.
