Blimey, that's a blast from the past. I have that on tape somewhere. Not listened to it in ages.

I love that record. Wish I could say the same for most of the rest of their output. They played a great live show in Detroit when I saw them a few years back.

Bitches Brew

Round About Midnight

Porgy and Bess

Sketches of Spain

and ..

Which is now playing, and one terrific record.

Agreed on all of those, especially "Relaxin'..."

All of the LPs from the same sessions that produced "Relaxin'..." are worthwhile:

I'm also partial to Someday My Prince Will Come, though it may not be quite up to the level of the others mentioned here.

That earlier Quintet/Bee-Bop stuff never gets the recognition it so richly deserves.

Definitely get Bitches Brew. Doesn't sound anything like Kind of Blue but completely essential. Live at the Plugged Nickel is great listening too. Look into Bill Evans (Waltz for Debby, Portrait in Jazz) and Coltrane (Love Supreme, Africa/Brass, Live at the Village Vanguard) and Monk (everything) as well.

np (thanks to doubter for the tip)
