Mets in trouble

In a stunning development that could affect the Mets' postseason chances, right-handed setup man Duaner Sanchez is out for the year with a separated pitching shoulder, FOXSports.com has learned.

Sanchez, 26, apparently was injured while riding as a passenger in a taxicab that was involved in a car accident Sunday night after the Mets landed in Miami. He returned to New York to undergo surgery on Monday.

The Mets already had been looking for bullpen help, and their search intensified in the final hours before Monday's 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline. Mets GM Omar Minaya was on the phone early Monday morning contacting other clubs about relievers who might be available.

Sanchez has been an integral part of the Mets' bullpen since arriving in a trade from the Dodgers for right-hander Jae Seo last off-season. In 49 appearances this season, he is 5-1 with a 2.60 ERA, and opposing hitters are batting only .223 against him.

no joke, Kyle Lohse on my team :upset

CINCINNATI (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds acquired left-hander Rheal Cormier from Philadelphia on Monday and right-hander Kyle Lohse from Minnesota in an attempt by the NL wild-card leader to bolster its pitching staff.

Maybe pitching in the NL will help him. Look at Arroyo.

Hernandez was good for us last year, but I really liked X. Nady. This might mean the return of Lastings Milledge, if he hasn't just been traded to the A's for Zito.

Well, the deadline has passed.

Yup.....didn't seem like a whole lot went down today, nothing major anyways...of course that could change. You never know what might get announced in the next few hours. Deals may have been completed but not announced

Also, this was just the non-waiver trading deadline. Players can still be traded and be eligible for the post-season until the end of August, so long as they are put on waivers first. And most of the big names being thrown around have contracts that are too huge for most teams to pick up from the waiver wire.

And the Padres pick up Todd Walker from the Cubs.

I heard about that. They seem to be improved of late.

Greg Maddux to the Dodgers. And:

The Colorado Rockies have acquired left-hander Jeremy Affeldt and right-hander Denny Bautista from the Kansas City Royals for infielder Ryan Shealy and right-hander Scott Dohmann.

A story is upcoming.

(AP) - The Atlanta Braves have traded pitcher Jorge Sosa to the St. Louis Cardinals for pitcher Rich Scalamandre.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Texas Rangers finally added a pitcher before the trade deadline Monday when they acquired right-hander Kip Wells from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a minor leaguer.

Three days after getting two-time All-Star outfielder Carlos Lee from Milwaukee in a six-player deal, the Rangers landed Wells (1-5, 6.69 ERA in seven starts) for right-hander Jesse Chavez.

The Rangers also acquired first baseman-outfielder Matt Stairs from the Kansas City Royals on Monday for minor league right-hander Joselo Diaz.

Wells missed most of spring training and began this season on the disabled list after undergoing surgery for a blocked artery in his right shoulder. He was activated June 18 and is 1-1 in his last three starts, allowing only four earned runs over 19 2-3 innings for a 1.83 ERA.
