I've been interested in this phenomenon for awhile, and I think my response when I hear it from now on will be to enjoy it for the socialogy experiment that it is, rather than get pissed. It reminds me of when some jackass yells "you da man!!" to break the silence right after a golfer hits a tee shot in one of the major tournaments. That was a good article on Freebird.
