Personal taste can't technically be wrong, but this begs the question. I really like LCD Soundsystem, and I love "Someone Great", but that song annoys the hell out of me. It's so monotonous.

It's no more monotonous than something like "Kidsmoke". Plus it has really good lyrics.

It's too hard to say that "Like a Rolling Stone" isn't the best ever, so maybe this should be the best songs by mere mortals, of which I'd have a hard time deciding between "In My Life" and Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World."

You can't say "mere mortals" then go on to name The Beatles and Satchmo! :lol

I made a mix of songs that are pretty much perfect. All could contend for the title.

Live - The Bangles

Septembur Girls (live) - Big Star

Ju Ju Man - Brinsley Schwarz

Jennifer Save Me - Golden Smog

Her Father Didn't Like Me Anyway - The Humblebums

I Know You Don't Love Me - Ike Turner

Long Time Ago - Jellyfish

Jenny Artichoke - Kaleidescope

The Last Thing To Go - Kris Kristofferson

Dick About It - MOTO

So It Goes - Nick Lowe

Wagon Wheel - Old Crow Medicine Show

Little Ole Country Boy - Parliment

Hung Up - Paul Weller

Ruby Soho - Rancid

Starry Eyes - The Records

Ball and Chain - Social Distortion

Hometown Blues - Steve Earle

Pomp and Pride - Toots & The Maytalls

Covers a lot of stylistic ground, but all are perfect, IMO.

(And yes, I know that Bangles song is an Emitt Rhodes cover.)
