ginandcigarettes tabbed this out a long time ago, quite a good tab. Nels' solo is different from the one time they played it live but just jam in D major and you'll be good.

To see the solo here's the link http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?sho...p;hl=either+way

[A]

Maybe the sun will [bm]shine today

[A] the clouds will go a[bm]way

[A] Maybe I won’t feel so a[bm]fraid

[bb] [bb/A] [Gm7] [Gm7/F]

[Em]

[Am]I [Em/G]will [Am6/F#]try to under[F]stand

Either [A]way

Second verse, same as the first, except different words and stuff.

Maybe you still love me [bm] maybe you don’t

[A] Maybe you will or you [bm]won’t

[A] Maybe you just need some time a[bm]lone

[bb]I [bb/A]will [Gm7]try to [Gm7/F]under[Em]stand

[Am]E[Em/G]v’ry [Am6/F#]thing has its [F]plan

Bridge

Either [F]way I’m [G]gonna stay

[C]now [E]

Solo

[A] [bm]

[A] [bm]

[bb] [bb/A] [Gm7] [Gm7/F]

Last verse a little different:

[A] the clouds will go a[D]way

[A] Maybe I won’t feel so a[D]fraid

[D] [D/C#] [bm] [bm/F#]

[bb]I [bb/A]will [Gm7]try to [Gm7/F]under[Em]stand

[Am]E[Em/G]v’ry [Am6/F#]thing has its [F]plan

Either [A]way

Intro/Verse (use on the [A] parts)

Capo 5, Travis Pick (generally, thumb on the 4th, 5th , and 6th strings; ring on 2nd, index on 3rd)

Repeat that a couple times. Use this or something remarkably similar to it for the [bm] parts:

Bridge: [F] [G] [Cmaj7] [E] (I think these are Nels' parts so stop travis picking and do what feel right)

I’m not sold on the positions I chose for Nels’ solo so I reserve the right to change those around as I see fit. I also neglected to do those little fiddly bit in the verses (it’s just a Bsus2 to Bm with some other arpeggio stuff) so I might add those in the future (I don’t have my guitar at work). This gets to one of my caveats: I stopped transcribing because I got tired or lazy and not because I really think I nailed it (I have the worst ability of anyone I know to pick out what individual guitars that are playing simultaneously are doing). I reserve the right to fix, add, or destroy anything at anytime for really no reason. I also reserve the right to do nothing whatsoever. Also, I make no claims of accuracy other to say that I’m pretty sure that the song I thought I was transcribing is the same song to which mfwahl was referring. Enjoy!

PS. I might point out that Nels kicks our fricking asses, yo, and he's not even trying.

can someone post the chord fingerings?

Which chords do you need fingerings to? The tab is relative to capo position 5. Standard chords like Bm and A major are fingered the same way you would as if there was no capo. There are somewhat tricky:

Most of the weird chords are essentially bassline walks:

Bb { 0 1 3 3 3 1 }

Bb/A { x 0 0 3 3 1 }

Gm7 { 3 5 3 3 3 x }

Gm7/F { 1 x 3 3 3 x }

  • 4 weeks later...

Has anyone had any luck trying to figure this one out in first position D? Or maybe with a capo on 2 with a C chord? Also, has anyone seen this tune performed live? If so, was it with capo 5?

Thanks!

Lance

Wow congrats on that one, thanks!

Sure, no problem. I use a program called "Transcribe" that's indispensable when it comes to nailing those fast runs accurately; it will slow down a selection to half or quarter speed (but at the same pitch), so you can pick them apart note by note.
