best 5 consecutive albums?

Recommended Posts

well, it's been 15 years since I listened to the Moody Blues, but I seem to recall that in 1967 they began this streak of 6 (not 5):

Days of Future Passed

In Search of the Lost Chord

To Our Children's Children's Children

On the Threshhold of a Dream

A Question of Balance

Every Good Boy Deserves Favour

could have them out of order ...

You were mighty close. Threshold came before Children's.

But you left the best one out! Seventh Sojourn.

A couple others...one partially mentioned earlier:

Can't Buy a Thrill

Countdown to Ecstasy

Pretzel Logic

Katy Lied

The Royal Scam

Aja

Blondie

Plastic Letters

Parallel Lines

Eat to the Beat

Autoamerican

Shake Your Money Maker

The Southern Harmony and Music Companion

Amorica

Three Snakes and One Charm

By Your Side (okay, 4 out of 5 ain't bad)

The Doors

Strange Days

Waiting For the Sun

The Soft Parade

Morrison Hotel

Mars Audiac Quintet

Emperor Tomato Ketchup

Dots and Loops

Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night

Sound-Dust

I was really surprised Springsteen wasn't mentioned until page 4. I can't think of an artist more deserving of mention in this thread. I would argue that he had a string of 8 great albums.

Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.

The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle

Born To Run

Darkness on the Edge of Town

The River

Nebraska

Born in the USA

Tunnel of Love

The Roots:

Do You Want More?!!!??!

Illadelph Halflife

Things Fall Apart

The Roots Come Alive

Phrenology

It's too bad they had a dud with The Tipping Point because Game Theory is spectacular (and one of the best albums of 06). This kind of consistency is extremely rare in Hip Hop. And to the guy who mentioned Ghostface, "Bulletproof Wallets" is a huuuuuuuge stretch.

i didn't read the whole thread, but Talking Head's first 6 albums is the greatest stretch in music imo.

How about this:Live DeadWorkingman's DeadAmerican BeautySkull & RosesEurope 72Sure, three of them are live albums but it's a pretty good output in three years.
Skull and Roses isn't even very good.

Can you think of any other artist or band who has put out 5 studio albums back to back more (or as) thoroughly enjoyable than/as Wilco's Being There, Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost Is Born and Sky Blue Sky?

Not really.

But, there was a guy back in the 60's that had a nice string of records. Two actually.

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

The Times They Are A-Changin'

Another Side of Bob Dylan

Bringing It All Back Home

Highway 61 Revisited

--or--

Bringing It All Back Home

Highway 61 Revisited

Blonde on Blonde

John Wesley Harding

I would have included 'Live At Royal Albert Hall' as it is perfect but is a live album so I wont' cheat.

Lungfish:

Talking Songs For Walking

Rainbows From Atoms

Pass And Stow

Sound In Time

Indivisible

R.E.M.'s aforementioned and ridiculous five-classics-in-five-years period (Murmur, etc.) is, I'd say, unbeatable.

But does anyone agree with this:

Cool for Cats

Argybargy

East Side Story

Sweets from a Stranger

Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti

Too obscure? Or just wrong?

Dinosaur

You're Living All Over Me

Bug

Green Mind

Where you been

Not to mention---those awesome EP's in between.

Nice...

But the band really only put out 3 records and then it became the J. Mascis show with Lou going off to Sebadoh and Murph relegated to the occasional track after Bug.

You're Living All Over Me is one of my five top records ever. It's what distorted guitar rock is supposed to sound like to me.

I'll add:

Dry

Rid Of Me

4 Track Demos (iffy I know)

To Bring You My Love

Is This Desire

OK... there's eight in a row from this guy. Man oh man i wish the Human Touch/Lucky Town releases didn't get in the way, because then there would be about 13 in a row... not including the live albums etc....

P.S. I didn't see Eli's post...Oh well screw it, I am keeping mine in tact!
