Nobody wants to be a mother****** The crowd was totally into it before they came on stage. I think it was the end of IATTBYH - John looked at Jeff and nodded, as if to say "good crowd tonight". This was a great great great show. The best I have seen I think. I met Kalle. He really exists. I got him to put his hand up in front of his face to prove his identity. And we managed to get prime spots. Jeff came right out over the crowd during Hummingbird and I could have head-butted him in the groin (not that I would). Near the end of the main set, some guy tried to climb up on stage. Luckily some fast thinkers in the crowd pulled him back but the look on Jeff's face was pretty scary. Met most of the band after the show and as always they were very accomodating and charming. Jeff signed and had pictures taken with everybody out there. Nels was so nice to everyone. And he was a monster last night. Just a great show. People keep saying how great this lineup what is scary how much better they keep getting. Just wow. Well worth the drive.

As he left the stage after the main set, Jeff called out for security to get the guy out. I happened to be standing next to the guy and tapped him on the shoulder and told him "Say good-bye". He was so drunk, he smiled, thinking I was complimenting him. He had no clue what was going to happen next when security escorted him out. When Jeff came back for the first encore, he commented how different the crowd was this year standing up at the stage and how the band preferred it. I thought it was great how Jeff bounced back and didn't let that crazy ruin a terrific vibe with the crowd.

This won't really qualify as a celebrity sighting as far as Americans are concerned, but Ron MacLean was in row f or g

Long-time visitor, 1st time posting;

What can I say? Great show last night. While the energy of the band back in 1997 at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern was raw, edgy and electric, the performance at Massey Hall last night featured a confident group of virtuoso musicians at the top of their game having fun with nothing to prove. Jeff's voice was sweet, soulful, and passionate when it needed to be. Glen is a beast behind the kit. John keeps the groove going while Pat and Mike add the colour. Nels...well he is special. His presence makes everyone that much better.

Highlights for me were Shot in the Arm, SBS, Impossible Germany, You Are My Face, Late Greats, Hate it Here and Hoodoo Voodoo - never thought I'd say that, but the dueling guitar solo between Nels and Pat was priceless (Pat's facial expressions are like something out of a Will Farell movie and Nels is just a pro). From my seat I could see Jeff watching the two of them go at it as if he was watching a tennis match - the grin on his face was like a kid with his hand in the cookie jar.

Other celebrity sightings: Bazil Donovan, Bass player from Blue Rodeo. Dave Hodge - former HNIC host.

But the best part of the day for me happened at around noon when on a whim I took a spin by Massey Hall and saw the guys loading in. I parked illegally and brought my 4-year-old daughter out to see the guys. We met John and Nels who were absolutely amazing with her as she sang them a few bars of her favourite tune, California Stars. We took some photos, shook hands and were off. It was special moment for her and her dad. All day she asked me if she could come with me to the show

Kalle, were you walking downtown and have someone yell "Look! A Wilco shirt! are you going to the show tonight!?" at you?

Hahahhaa yeah I wasn't sure what to think about that! Hi again anyways! We were heading back to our hotel to drop off all our mountains of purchases.

Also, Ron Sexsmith Row E. He was even clapping.

Ron was there last year as well. After I followed the band around last year on the Canadian tour I headed to the Mariposa Folk Festival in Orillia where Ron was headlining and me and him talked for almost an hour about guitar and Wilco. He's a huge fan and you can definately see the influence in alot of his songs.

Not much I can add that hasn't been said already. It was a great show by a great band at a prime moment in their careers.

I took the train up from Windsor, about a 4 hour trip each way, just for this concert - and it was worth it! :thumbup

Was too far away during the show to get any decent pics with my digicam, which didn't stop me from trying a couple of times. However I was lucky enough to meet the band after the show. They signed autographs, posed for pictures, and chatted a bit. Great guys. Jeff wished us a happy Canada Day, which by this point in the evening (morning?) it already was. And it was! When asked if they were planning on returning to the Detroit area Glenn said absolutely and that a mid-west tour would be happening at the end of the year. Fingers crossed they play the State theatre (the Fillmore? I guess it's name changed), or the Opera House, which I hear is nice too.

Heh, that was my friend James who yelled. He didn't go to the show, and is only getting in to wilco really recently because I wouldn't shut up about them. :)

wow.......sounds like a terrific show.

Great news about the midwest tour, I'll definitely go to Detroit to see Wilco. This whole tour has an air of magic, I envy all of you longtimers that have stuck with the band and seen them progress to this point. I just hope it continues for a few more years...

Shea's Theater in Buffalo would be nice, too. :thumbup

Can anyone identify the sound clip that was playing as Wilco came on stage, it sounded like a 70's theme song but i couldnt place it.

Big Thanks to anyone who posts pix of this amazing show. This was my second Wilco show, and i was every bit as blown away by it as seeing them for the first time (in Boston 2005). I drove to Toronto from upstate NY and had to fight 8 hours of Canada Day traffic to get home, totally worth it.

I think it's the theme to the Bob Newhart Show. The clip they were using isn't exactly the same as the one found here, but it's pretty similar.

Is this purely wishful thinking, or do you know something?

I have heard rumors that they are playing a smallish outdoor venue in KC. Unconfirmed at this point.

This was our 1st Wilco Show and they did not disappoint. We loved the venue and the crowd was great (aside from "The Dude")... As a self described "Tweedy Solo Fan" I was converted to a full fledged Wilco fan. I enjoyed the loud jams a lot more live than I do via my ear buds or stereo. I am still looking forward to my First Solo Tweedy show...

We also came from upstate NY and sat in the traffic... 75 miles in 5 hours... yeah, 15 miles and hour... Patience!

Peace,

MyLaminatedCat

MLC, thanks for sharing your pix and vid, awesome job on getting the page up so quickly. i'll be sharing it with my unfortunate friends who were unable to attend.

Be honest, you'd still go even if you'd known beforehand you'd have to crawl home at 15mph, right?

Wouldn't of missed it for anything... We made the best out of the 5 hours.
