Never heard the term Travis Picking.  Would that describe what Richard Thompson does on the sublime 1952 Vincent Black Lightning?

Yep, I do believe so.  Basically the only rule of travis picking is that the thumb never stops moving, typically playing alternating bass notes.

I need to learn this!  Not sure I have ever heard a Travis picking song I don't like, what a fine musical invention.

Yes, I worked all weekend trying to get it under my fingers. Almost there...

Invented by Merle Travis. You can google it; lots of good stuff on the interwebs. But for me it comes down to these patterns (and variations therefore):

For the JTE song, there are some good tabs on the web.

The entire album is GREAT!

As is his previous album, The Way I See It:

You should immediately go and purchase both.

Heard through the internet grapevine that he has a new one coming out this year, too. If true, it is at the top of my "anticipated albums" list.

EDIT:

Thanks for the inspiration. Listening to Saadiq right now.

My band. Love them.

And that's still the only (and real) version of "What's So Happy 'Bout Peace, Love and Understanding" to me. Love the corny synchronized guitar moves between Nick Lowe and Ian Gomm.

You will not convince me that his drummer is not Meat Loaf Aday.

Yet it is Billy Rankin.  :flirt

And for my money, Bob Andrews is the best rock keys player there ever was.

Agreed. I had the greatest talk with him & his girlfriend after seeing GP & the Rumour in L.A. in December. I introduced my son Brennan who had just walked up, and said my kids had grown up listening to the Brinsleys...Bob looked Brennan over and commented, "Well, you seem to have turned out alright, anyway." :lol

He was incredible in Graham's set. The boy's still got it.

sounds great, gonna purchase both CDs.

Thanks for posting..

You're going to love these.

Billy Rankin Aday, maybe.

An apple Aday keeps the doctor away, if you aim well enough. :P
