Oh really. That's interesting. I wonder if the Trigger Hippy album is going to come out now.

THE BLACK CROWES will return to the road in 2013 with their “Lay Down With Number 13” world tour. The first leg will encompass dates in the U.K. March 24-30 and the U.S. April 2-May 4. Tickets for this first leg go on sale January 11 at 10:13 AM Local Time and ticket link information will be available on January 1 at www.blackcrowes.com. Additional dates will be announced soon.

The band has also announced the March 19 vinyl release of the live WISER FOR THE TIME (Silver Arrow/Megaforce Records). Its eight sides will contain 26 songs–15 acoustic and 11 electric–from the band’s five-night, sold-out NYC performances in the fall of 2010. These never-released-before versions will also be available as a double album digital download.

Chris Robinson (lead vocals, guitar), Rich Robinson (guitar, vocals), Steve Gorman (drums), Sven Pipien (bass) and Adam Macdougall (keyboards) of THE BLACK CROWES “are thrilled to announce the addition of our good friend Jackie Greene” on guitar and vocals.

The band is offering via their website a free mobile web app. It includes a free download of the acoustic version of
“Under a Mountain” performed live in NYC in 2010. This offering is exclusive and not included on WISER FOR THE TIME.

The first leg of the “Lay Down With Number 13” tour begins March 24 in Manchester in the U.K. and will run through May 4 in New Orleans.

Stay tuned for a VIP Ticketing announcement.

I'm not really that big of a Jackie Greene fan, so I'm kinda disappointed, but I guess he's as good as Luther or Neal so I suppose its gonna sound about the same as the last few years.  Rich will just have to take up the slack on the solos, which he is perfectly capable of doing.

Luther is better than all those guys. I didn't really think he sounded right with the band early on, but it worked out in the end. Of course, we are talking about three different styles of guitar playing/players.

Yeah, but you also think the Crowes played too hard and too fast in 1992!!!!  Jest funnin' with ya, analog man.  :D

To my ears, Luther, Neal and Jackie are pretty similar in style and sound.  They are all capable of doing a reasonably good job in the Crowes, but none of them are in the same league as Marc Ford and not nearly as exciting to me.  I like blazing, fast, hard late 60s/early 70s lead guitar, though, that is most definitely my preferred sound for rock 'n' roll.  Each to his own, of course.  Luther and that gang all play pretty good blues/roots based guitar, just not with enough drive and intensity for my tastes.  I get why people like them, though.

Little disappointed with the Greene announcement, too. Luther is a great, versatile guitarist.  I only know Greene's playing from his shows with Lesh, so I am not too familiar with him, but I never thought of him a great guitar player - his voice is okay, though.

Also, Shug, the Vic is all G.A. - you can sit or stand anywhere. Great place to see a show - pretty small, too. The surrounding neighborhood is great, too - lot's of decent restaurants/bars.

Wilco has played there a bunch of times - there may be some info regarding the Vic' area in the Going to Chicago thread.

I had thoughts of venturing down to Nashville to see a show, but honestly with announcement of Greene, I probably will just try and hit a Chicago show. Who knows though - Greene may be a great fit.

I like the early stuff - but I probably like the later stuff better. I would be surprised if the band ever goes back to playing that sort of music ("hard rock"). I think if they do anything new - they will continue in the direction of the last album.

I picked up The Magic Door yesterday. This album sounds really good.

i like big moon ritual better, but i love vibration and light suite on magic door.  as with most double albums, this would've been a good single CD.  it was fun to have two new cds though.

i've been revisiting Before the Frost.  that is a masterpiece of an album.  i just love it all.  too bad it came out so late in the decade as i think it's up there with the best and should've been on some best of lists.

cool to see the boys touring.  bet we'll see a new studio album in the spring or fall.  chris robinson is one prolific MF.

http://www.jambands.com/news/2013/01/08/black-crowes-to-play-special-acoustic-show-at-the-ryman/

The Black Crowes have already confirmed that they will hit the road this spring for their first shows since going on an indefinite hiatus. The group, which has not toured in the U.S. since the end of 2010, will open their Lay Down With Number 13 Tour in England on March 24. The U.S. leg then begins in Port Chester, NY at the Capitol Theatre on April 2. Nearly three weeks later the group will perform over two nights at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. The second of these gigs, on April 21, will be a special acoustic show, the only one of the tour and will feature special as-yet-unannounced guests performing with the band. The current Crowes lineup features stalwarts Chris Robinson, Rich Robinson, Steve Gorman, Sven Pipien and Adam MacDougall, joined by Jackie Greene, while Luther Dickinson departs to focus on North Mississippi Allstars.

The acoustic show sounds like it may interesting. I caught one of there shows in 2010 in Chicago, when they played one acoustic set and one electric set - there acoustic performance was great.

Last night I listened to their 8/27/10 The Pageant, St. Louis, MO show again  --- great, great show/recording.

Also it's kinda cool, that it appears that the departure of Luther was a mutual decision....

I never saw him as a permanent guy. I figure all those guys are hired hands - except for Chris, Rich, and maybe Steve.

I suspect that Steve is a member (not full share)...only because remember when the originally reformed...he held out for like 2 weeks, they actaully went on tour without him...then he came back.

That is true.

Some Youtube finds:

A whole bunch of shows from the mid-1990s on to the 2000s.

This is a good find:

Non-Fiction from Saturday Night Live 1992

(Back in those days I use to tape a lot of music stuff off of TV. I recall I taped this and use to watch it all the time. It's still one of my favorite BC songs.)

Pre-order for the live album (Wiser For The Time). It's 70 bucks. I guess the only digital download is going to be through iTunes. That's a shame. I was hoping they were going to offer a FLAC download.
