Every time this thread comes around (again), I have to plug the Posies, the kings of the cover version (and damn fine songwriters in their own right).

Their version of the Germs' "Richie Dagger's Crime" is still an all-time favorite of mine. They've also done great versions of "Ooh Child," "Surrender," "Song of the Baker," "Every Christian Lionhearted Man Will Show You," "Lady Friend," "What the World Needs Now," "I Am the Cosmos," a slew of Big Star songs, and many others.

"I Want You To Want Me" - Dwight Yoakam

works surprisingly well. And just goes to prove that a great song is a great song, no matter what genre you shoehorn it into.

Love your choices. I'll have to look for these 2. Jerry Joseph doing Come Together sounds like a good idea :thumbup

I've only heard him do it in the middle of "Big Things," usually adding a very nice and melodic verse or two of The Beach Boys' " Wouldn't it be Nice" to the tail end of "Come Together" before heading back into "Big Things."

ed. Here's a youtube version of the Dino, Jr. cover:

And here's my favorite version of Jerry Joseph and the Jack Mormons doing the "Big Things-> Come Together- Wouldn't it be Nice-> Big Things" live two years ago at Egos in Salt Lake City (off of archives):
