i was trying to find good love songs (i know, sounds gay) that aren't the standard pop/country stuff - kinda in the vain of something tweedy would write but not a song by jeff (cause i know all his songs).

for example - love hurts by gram parsons is really good, and of course the beatles - something which could be the best love song ever written. also chi-lites - oh girl. anyone care to name some others that i might not know about?

Against All Odds?

Phil Collins' ex-wife may no longer be in his heart, but she'll definitely always have a place in his bank account.

The easy-rocking star has waved good-bye to marriage No. 3 and hello to a reported $46.68 million divorce settlement which, if accurate, shapes up to be the biggest ever celeb payout in British legal history, trumping even the astronomical amount Heather Mills received

"You're the One For Me" - Jonathan Richman

If you didn't want me you shouldn't have been born

That started all the trouble now the damage been done

You never should have been born

Cuz now you're the one for me

And if you didn't want me to follow you around

You never should have showed up around my town

You never should have come to town

Cuz now you're the one for me

And it's too late cuz now you're stuck with me

Better give up, it's me you choose

I say "ha ha ha ha, it's me, you lose."

It's to late cuz now my minds is set

You better give up because i won't forget

That could never never be

Well you're the one for me

Oh baby, oh honey

Well it's too late

You're the one for me

If you didn't want me you shouldn't have been born

And we never should have met that morn

We never should have met

Cuz now you're the one for me

And if you didn't want me to want you this way

Well you never should have seen my rock n roll band play

You never should have seen the lovers play

Cuz now you're the one for me.

And it's too late cuz now you're stuck with me

Better give up, it's me you choose

I say "ha ha ha ha, it's me, you lose."

It's to late cuz now my minds is set

You better give up because i won't forget

That could never never be

Well you're the one for me

Oh babe, oh honey

It's just too late

You're the one for me

You're the one for me

You're the one, you're the one

You're the one, it's too late

You're the one

And, perhaps the greates, most beautiful love song ever:

Nick Cave - "Breathless"

It's up in the morning and on the downs

Little white clouds like gambolling lambs

And I am breathless over you

And the red-breasted robin beats his wings

His throat it trembles when he sings

For he is helpless before you

The happy hooded bluebells bow

And bend their heads all a-down

Heavied by the early morning dew

At the whispering stream, at the bubbling brook

The fishes leap up to take a look

For they are breathless over you

Still your hands

And still your heart

For still your face comes shining through

And all the morning glows anew

Still your mind

Still your soul

For still, the fire of love is true

And I am breathless without you

The wind circles among the trees

And it bangs about the new-made leaves

For it is breathless without you

The fox chases the rabbit round

The rabbit hides beneath the ground

For he is defenceless without you

The sky of daytime dies away

And all earthly things they stop to play

For we are all breathless without you

I listen to my juddering bones

The blood in my veins and the wind in my lungs

And I am breathless without you

Still your hands

And still your heart

For still your face comes shining through

And all the morning glows anew

Still your soul

Still your mind

Still, the fire of love is true

And I am breathless without you

and of course the beatles - something which could be the best love song ever written.

'Something' is a great song, yes. Great love song? I don't know. The lyrics imply the singer's attraction to other lovers, and how the object of affection diminishes his need for other lovers.

"Something in the way she moves attracts me like no other lover"

"Something in her smile she knows that I don't need no other lover"

Is that something you'd say to the object of your affection? "Oh honey, there's something about you that prevents me from philandering..."

Then he goes on to say that he can't assure that his love will grow, but if she sticks around it might show.

Pretty tepid love-lyrics, I sez...

So instead, I nominate Van Mo's Sweet Thing:

And I will stroll the merry way

And jump the hedges first

And I will drink the clear

Clean water for to quench my thirst

And I shall watch the ferry-boats

And theyll get high

On a bluer ocean

Against tomorrows sky

And I will never grow so old again

And I will walk and talk

In gardens all wet with rain

Oh sweet thing, sweet thing

My, my, my, my, my sweet thing

And I shall drive my chariot

Down your streets and cry

hey, its me, Im dynamite

And I dont know why

And you shall take me strongly

In your arms again

And I will not remember

That I even felt the pain.

We shall walk and talk

In gardens all misty and wet with rain

And I will never, never, never

Grow so old again.

Oh sweet thing, sweet thing

My, my, my, my, my sweet thing

And I will raise my hand up

Into the night time sky

And count the stars

Thats shining in your eye

Just to dig it all an not to wonder

Thats just fine

And Ill be satisfied

Not to read in between the lines

And I will walk and talk

In gardens all wet with rain

And I will never, ever, ever, ever

Grow so old again.

Oh sweet thing, sweet thing

Sugar-baby with your champagne eyes

And your saint-like smile....

Clem Snide "Close the Door"

Close the door but open yourself to me

Take off your coat leave it there on the floor

I caught you doubting yourself in the mirror

But you look good to me

Close the door don't let the cold air in

I don't mind to wait till your hands get warm

You could be comin' down with something

So I'll come down with you

Close the door then sneeze as loud as you want

God bless you he made the dust in this room

......................................................................

and another Clem Snide tune "Something Beautiful," this one kills me:

You make me wanna

Stumble on pillows

Skin both my knees

You make me wanna

Put you inside my mouth so i can't say please

You make me wanna

Soak it in gasoline

Stain my new shirt

You make me wanna

Sip lysol from a cup

So clean it hurts

You make me wanna break

Break

Something beautiful

You make me wanna

Fold the map improperly

Locked in a stall

You make me wanna

Not turn the wipers on when

Rain starts to fall

You make me wanna

Smoke every ciggerette

That's ever been made

You make me wanna

Make the rules up as i go

So no one can play

you make me wanna break

Break

Something beautiful

You make me wanna

Drink from the deepest well

Build towers of steel

You make me wanna

Cut down a million trees

Spin firey wheels

You make me wanna

Block out the moonlight

Turn off the sun

You make me wanna

Fire off my cannon balls

Make the natives run

You make me wanna break

Break

Break

Break

Something beautiful
