Lucinda Williams, my next ex-wife

Recommended Posts

WOW, she gets me everytime.

EVERYTIME.

She once again gladly accepted my bouquet of flowers but didn't show up to

my hotel room. Oh well, I will still always put the room number on her card.

Buick 6 again threw the HEAT as the opener.

One of my friends grabbed this video and I think it came out well. Just ignore the happy hippie around the 1:30 mark, LOL.

I grabbed the setlist info from Lu's official site's forum. Thanks to those folks.

Not to bring your buzz down, but I have seen Lucinda once, I think it was around the time of her Essence or World Without Tears tours. I left thinking that she is just one of those musicians better left to listen to on record. She struck me as completely uncomfortable (deer in headlights) She had a music stand with her lyric book beside her on stage that she stared at all night. (Which I found especially odd during songs like Lonely Girls which only have so many words anyway) Anyways, I'm just surprised at what you had to say. I guess I'm wondering if she should be given another try in a live setting?

Most of what we can see live on YouTube sounds pretty bad to me.

Except this:

To my ears that sounds beautiful, rough and edgy.

She has always used a stand for lyrics and she may glance at times to the lyrics.

No biggie to me, and has become a pretty decent guitar playing and the band can

flat toss some nasty riffs at ya face.

It's just good ol' ROCK n ROLL.

That band was ace, if you ask me! Can't remember the name of the lead guitar player, but he's one of my favorites. I just know he's from Nashville.

Doug Pettibone?

YeP, Doug has been an original member of Buick 6 and thus Lu's bands of late but prior to this tour

he joined another band which I can't recall.

Doug is a great string playa.

Lucinda is wonderful. She is authentic, true to herself, and brings it most nights I have seen her. Once, at the Fillmore, she was super late and cranky. Quite frankly, even on that rough night, she brought tears to my eyes several times. I think she will go down as one of the best songwriters of our time. Love her. Glad she is still out there making it happen. As to the songbook...too many songs to remember all the lyrics, I think.

I actually wish she wouldnt bother trying to rock out. Her sad songs and ballads are superb...Side of the Road, Greenville, Blue, Minneapolis and others can reduce me to tears. And I dont cry much. LW is a great writer and I like how she pulls off the stretching of her vocal limitations-- like on Blue. Very imperfect but still beautiful. She is notoriously obsessive though, which I guess doesnt help her in live performance.

Changed The Locks and Joy are 2 of the best songs she has ever written.
