I was at the last Pittsburgh show. The venue left a lot to be desired but I had a great time.

Thanks for calling us foolishly blind lame-o's. Nice way to introduce yourself to the forum. :thumbup

Thanks!

I'm actually a lot more enjoyable to be around when my opinion does not clash so strongly with others. The pulumbo center was what it was, and the boys absolutely played a great set b backing their recent release of sky blue sky, which was an awesome album.

The poster before you really hit it out of the park, WILCO is going to rock, and that's that.

:beer :rock

:thumbup :worship :cheers

all the songs you want them to play (except "Kingpin" and "Misunderstood") are songs they literally play every single night.

So nice of them to do so!

Wilco rocks!!!

I thought this was a joke post at first, but they keep coming, so...

Dude, all the songs you want them to play (except "Kingpin" and "Misunderstood") are songs they literally play every single night. So you don't need to worry. Plus, they're playing 35+ songs a night, so there is plenty of room for rarities, even if you personally don't like them for whatever reason.

Also, you really think that "Via Chicago", "California Stars", "Poor Places", and "At Least That's What You Said" are "not the band's best work"?

Second that.

Just when I thought the posts couldn't get more odd...

Second this.

i sure hope Pitt doesn't lack energy, if that's possible, due to the calm/tame song request

I'm try to shy away from getting into silly back-and-forth debates around here, and also trying to be kind to the new posters (and not patronizing), but just to make sure, the guy who said this:

"the band cannot lack energy"

Great show with an awesome encore -- Dreamer in My Dreams, Casino Queen, Outtasite (Outtamind) (they played Mind/Site in the acoustic), and a "rave" version of I'm a Wheel with no instruments, just them having fun on the stage, singing part of the song while a prerecorded version with a few extra beats played on a Macbook.

The soundcheck, as heard through the front doors, was stellar:

Fool Such as I

The Losing End

Outtamind (Outtasite)

So Much Wine

In the Streets

Thirteen

Someday Soon

I Must be High

If all I heard was the soundcheck, I'd be pleased as punch. But the full setlist is quite remarkable.

the band & the city are 2 different things

the band & the crowd are a few thousand different things

wilco is more than 1 thing.

all wilco shows are great!,..some more energy than others depending on the mood of jeff and/or the crowd energy..jeff feeds off the crowd i think and last night the philly crowd was off the hook...crowd participation seemed to be almost every song and jeff was loving it. he loves when we sing along and i could tell he was happy. smiled a lot, lots of joking around. i know there were some talkers but i couldn't hear them because i was up front. the sound was fantastic and just a great show with a lot of energy. philly loves wilco and it showed last night. i never wanted it to end.

and they can play whatever they feel like playing, i love it all.

p.s. thanks again to the guy who went and got me a poster so i didn't have to leave my spot, it filled up quick down there.

What a disappointing corner we've turned in this thread. Back to the Philly show... it was so great! So many highlights from the evening, I wouldn't know where to begin.

One thing that I was happy about was Jeff pointing out the "Chatty Kathy's" -- I was up in the balcony and the people there would NOT stop talking. During Sunken Treasure, these two ladies were laughing and talking about total nonsense... almost ruined the moment for me. What's it with people talking during a show that they paid for? Drives me nuts.

Also, the weed smoke was ridiculously strong. Serious contact high going not by my choice, and Jeff even brought attention to it and started playing with the lights, showing off the smoke and said, "Thanks for ruining my 6-year sobriety" -- or something to that effect. Pretty hilarious.

Loved the acoustic set. John on the upright bass was a joy to watch. Forget the Flowers was a real treat. =) The last 2 songs, Casino Queen and Outtasite were absolutely nutbar. Loved the fact that "AM" got some serious playtime last night. All the staples were amazing of course too, with Via Chicago pretty much destroying the minds of the two Wilco-virgins I brought along. Theologians brought a tear to my eye. So emotional for me.

Wilco hasn't disappointed me once, and I don't expect that to happen anytime soon. One thing though: the sound at the Electric Factory was pretty terrible. That factory just wasn't made for music. Ahhh well, epic show none the less and next up for me, is the festival in Mass.

up front the show sounded really good to me. i like the atmosphere of the factory, with the stools upstairs and all the different levels etc.. i guess you can call it dumpy-chic or something..lol. jeff made fun of the place saying it reminded him of MTV. i had such a good time and i went by myself. they rocked the factory last night!

OK fine....

At Least That's What rocks (that's not really even an admission, it's obvious)

& Via Chicago is a treat - but it is what it is

My points stands, that during any (acoustic or not) set

California Stars, Another Man's Done Gone, candy floss, When You Wake Up Feeling Old & Company In My Back don't compare to the greatness that is I'll Fightand many of their other songs

dang i wished they'd played more of those in the show! 'twas the best encore i've seen in five wilco shows (3 on this tour), casino queen blew the lid off the joint! eclectic setlist, a lot of the "standards" they've played live this year and last, but also i saw 7 or 8 songs i hadn't seen live in 4 previous shows, so that was way cool!

I think that your opinion is very wrong.

Nevertheless, enjoy the show.

LMAO. Nevermind it went over the heads of 90% of the forum. Oh, BTW, I never saw that movie. ;

Dude, give it a rest already. Even as you contradict yourself, I get what you are saying & even agree to a certain extent. I won't deny that the slower songs do not move me the way the rocking songs move me - which is, I think, what you are really trying to say?. That's pretty standard for rock bands with me. But the :headbonk method rarely works, especially on message boards.

Last night's show ranks pretty high overall in the almost 35-ish I've seen. (On this tour) beats out night #2 in Jersey b/c there's no doubt that the crowd enthusiasm carried the day & took Jeff to the next level. Lots of singing the older songs from the longtime faithful, which is definitely a cool thing about places like Philly as opposed to Savannah or Scranton, where there's little history/continuity for the band to develop a relationship w/ the crowd over time. I don't think Tweedy really likes Philly, but he knows the musical knowledge runs deep & long, and respects that.

I stood about 10th row center, and the sound from there was excellent. Whoever posted about the bad sound, the EF sound anywhere but the floor almost always is fairly bad; it just echoes around that cavernous venue.

Also count me among those who favor Tweedy busting on anyone who talks (loudly, over the music) at concerts. Why is it that basically the under 25 crowd go to concerts to talk to their equally obnoxious friend(s) - hey, and let's pinpoint some more by calling out that it's usually girls

- and sorry, but this isn't head banging, it's the unequivocal truth. I go to a LOT of concerts, at all types of venues, and this rings so true it's scary. Anywho...not that I am talking to people here, but just venting.

Last night's show was the longest of the tour so far, at 190 minutes or so. You'd have to go back to the Troc in '97 to equal last night - and that was a different thing altogether as Wilco was a different band then.

Cheers!

Last night was definitely the best Wilco show I've seen. The band was so tight and into the show. The highlights for me were Ashes of American Flags, A Shot In The Arm (with more energy then I've ever seen them play it with), Sunken Treasure (even with the talkers, Laminated Cat, Via Chicago, Can't Stand It, and the entire encore.

I was about 10-15 rows back on the right side, and the sound was great. I've been to ALOT of shows at The Electric Factory, and this was without a doubt one of the best sounding shows I've heard there. The crowd was OK for the most part where I stood until some random couple decided to shove their way through the crowd when the electric set resumed, only to stop right in front of me. They proceeded to make out and talk until I told them to fuck off.

Also a special fuck you to the NFL Linebacker sized woman who spilled half of her 10$ beer on me.

Nobody's talking about the rave! Most unique "version" of "I'm a Wheel" I've ever heard.

I thought everything sounded quite good near the front; a pleasant surprise given the look of the room. The show transcended the chatting. (Given the fact that everyone who wanted to drink was penned off on the right and upstairs, chatter from over there was pretty much inevitable.) I can't believe I've heard "Dreamer" three times in four shows on this tour. Not to mention "That's Not the Issue" and "I Must Be High!"

To hear any of the above mentioned songs as well as the ones above that would be awesome.

You people need help!

If this were the only songs they played it would be the most satisfying show I ever saw and I have seen 15.

Couldn't we just give that subject a rest? :lol At least until the Pittsburgh show has happened? It's been thoroughly discussed, and pitt hookah has posted that he's "reassured."

agree,..this is supposed to be a thread for after the philly show and i'm sad more people aren't commenting on how great this show was. maybe i'm just too sensitive.

oh and i had no idea they were doing a 'rave' version of im a wheel as one of the encores, i didn't see it mentioned anywhere,..that was a really cool surprise to me, loved it!
