Top Three Guitarist Combos

Recommended Posts

Wilco taught me so many things about music (like I'm sure is true for many of us). One of the biggest things I learned was how much I love a band with at least two guitarists. So I was just wondering what are some of your favorite guitar duos of all time. I know this is a pretty simple post but I just love to talk music and I am so excited I finally took the time to check out this page. Ok, anywho, my top three are:

1) Mick Taylor, Keith Richards

2) Duane Allman, Dickey Betts

3) Nels Cline, Jeff Tweedy

Here is three that I can think of:

Rich Robinson and Marc Ford

Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson

Dave Murray and Adrian Smith

Very cool and diverse three! I was a bit suprised you left out any ABB combos considering how much you contribute to that thread. Hey, is your avatar photo of Marc Bolan? Cause if it is that makes you three times cooler than push pops, and we all know push pops rock.

Bob and Jerry.

also like robert fripp with what's his name?

oh, and the two dudes in television. lloyd and ?.

damn, i can't remember anything right now. been a long day!

Dude, how can they be your favorite if you don't know their names? Look at all they do for us, the least we can do is learn their names.

Jonny Greenwood / Ed O'Brien.

Bishop and Bloomfield.

John and George did ok too.

LOL, yes, I think we can all agree John and George did ok. Iwas curious how long it would take for an "english wilco" (Radiohead) comment to pop up.

Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo.

Richards and Wood (1975-1982)

Good call on the Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. I suppose Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing should be mentioned, too.

Of course, now it is three. (Dave, Adrian, and Janick Gers)

Gary Rossington and Allen Collins

Toy Caldwell and George McCorkle

Well, holy shit, nobody mentioned Jerry Garcia/Bob Weir yet? Sacrilege. Oh, I guess someone sorta did. But "Bob and Jerry"? Pffft.

Ryan Adams/Neal Casal have produced some pretty sublime moments.

And last but definitely not least, Joe Strummer/Mick Jones, who basically melted my face off when I saw them. RIP Joe.

Come to think of it, Lou and Sterling were a pretty badass pair of guitarists, too.

This!

Also Robert Quine and Matthew Sweet on Girlfriend. Love the interplay between the guitars on that LP. Clapton and Allman on Derek & the Dominoes. Clearly Bob & Jerry. Neil Young & Danny Whitten.

In addition to many already mentioned:

Keith Richards and Brian Jones

Paul Westerberg and Bob Stintson

Chet Atkins and Les Paul (not really a duo, but they did do one record together)

Westerberg and Stinson. hmmm.. One of my all time favorite bands, but I can't think of any moments where they really clicks as a guitar duo.

Atkins and Paul. One of the best damn guitar albums ever recorded.

A thought: Slash & Izzy Stradlin?
