Any Love Here for "The Walking Dead"?

Recommended Posts

Good premiere, but a couple weak episodes (subpar writing and acting, IMHO) since then. I'll keep watching though.

Short season - I think there's only 3 episodes left?

I'm trying to figure out what the "rules" are with these zombies? Apparently they need to feed? On animals too?

I've always assumed that zombies don't need to feed at all - but they love human flesh. They can continue to "live" without nutrition, which is part of the reason they're dangerous, because otherwise you could just round them up and starve them to "death."

I'm liking the show and have seen all the episodes so far. Like any new show it's got some issues around character development and things but it seems like it has real promise. It's not breaking any new ground or anything but it's a zombie show so I'm not looking for deep thought. I'm hoping it gets popular enought to keep going.

As a child, I would (secretly and seriously) rank a house’s desirability according to its ability to keep one safe in the face of a full on zombie attack. Low lying windows and/or lots of glass and no basement, no way, elevated windows set in a brick or otherwise sturdy looking structure with lots of, but not too many defendable exits in a rather remote location, away from cemeteries and/or hospitals, yes.

Which is to say, for me, The Walking Dead is pretty much fetish porn.

I like films like 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead so this series has been right up my alley. As far as AMC shows go, this one is the least original as it mirrors too closely other works--like 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead--but, unlike those films this one has the time to have better character development so it should be interesting to see how this builds over time.

I read earlier today that the first episode had 5.3 million viewers and the second 4.7. In comparison, the Mad Men Season finale had around 2.4 million viewers. It's no wonder AMC quickly renewed this for another season.

Nice to hear about another George A. Romero victim :unsure

The filming of TWD is great, but I'm having trouble with the characters. They guy they left on the roof? Who cares? I didn't feel sorry for him at all and now realize that he's going to show up in future episodes. His brother is an idiot too.

And the guy that the wife hooked up with? He seemed like a total asshole before the husband came back, so he didn't win me over. The wife is boring. The kid kind of looks like a zombie with his blank stare, and so does the main character. Wish the characters had some personality besides being jerks.

I thought last night's episode was probably the best one since the series premiere. There was more tension and inner conflict between the surviving group members and the entire group as a whole was having to contemplate decisions about the future and their fate, along with the fate of other group members.

I was outside in the garage a few weeks ago. The thought popped into my brain that if zombies came at me what would I use to defend myself? I settled on the square. Lightweight, kinda sharp.

I keep most of my yard tools next to the garage door, so if they busted into my garage, they'd probably block my access to my best weapons (the tamper and steel rake). I'd only have access to a hammer, a couple of hand saws, a bottle of goo-gone and a bunch of half empty paint cans.

funny i had a similar thought too. i was watching the recent episode of TWD in my basement (its a finished one) and thought if a zombie attacked me in my basement, what would i use as a weapon? i looked around the room and i realized i would have to attack it with my hands to ward it off in order to get to my tools which is in another room through a door. if i got in there i would use a hammer or a scratch awl. i dont have many power tools. damn, i dont like my chances. I must rectify this situation in preparation!

It's the least original of the AMC shows, and it often treads in familiar waters, but overall I enjoyed season 1. Mind you, I'm a fan of post apocalyptic stories so this stuff is up my alley.

the acting isnt superb but wasnt expecting it to be. i could have used more zombie-killing scenes but i get their angle-human relations, humanity....

overall, i enjoyed it. like to see more 'serious' zombie movies/shows, not just B movie stuff, eventhough those are great. Zombie Strippers was a trip.
