They had a ton of hype and lasted about one hot minute. Jim is a talented guitar player who plays with Jon Langford, Horses Ha (check their album from last year out, it is excellent) and a bunch of other bands I can't name off the top of my head. You are thinking of Rick Rizzo. Rick is a bit of a shredder, but Jim is a very nuanced and understated guitar player. He is a regular who shows up with all sorts of Chicago area musicians. LouieB Yep, I was wrong about Jim Elkington--chalk it up to sloppy googling. I actually wasn't confusing him with anyone, since I'd never heard of him before yesterday's announcement--he was just mentioned in connection with someone from Eleventh Dream Day. LouieB Posted May 19, 2014 Share Posted May 19, 2014 poked around a bit on the internet yesterday about the guitarist. I think he's a Brit relocated to Chicago, plays with a band called the Zincs. They're on Thrill Jockey. Janet Bean (Freakwater) sings or plays on one of the records, so I personally consider that a good thing. That's all I turned up.I highly recommend the Horses Ha CD. If this gets more sales on it from his participation with Jeff, so be it. Also he is on Jon Langford's Here be Monsters LP and out on tour with Jon. Unlike Grateful Dead shows, each version of nearly every Wilco song performed live were nearly identical. Unlike Grateful Dead shows, each version of nearly every Wilco song performed live were nearly identical. I get that the songs are complicated, but the lack of variation probably necessitated a long break... I think there's some validity to this as well. I imagine the covers set at Solid Sound was invigorating for them -- gave them something new to tinker with -- and move on from the old warhorses. A week or two ago when I was wondering if/what kind of activity we'd see from Wilco this year, excluding a few live performances and the murmurings of a Solid Sound DVD, I went poking around in the Roadcase section of the Wilco store. Thought maybe I'd pick up the recordings of the Tweedy solo shows I saw in KC and Denver, or maybe snag a Wilco show I hadn't heard yet. But after looking through the options, I realized that I just don't need another version of "Handshake Drugs" or "I'm the Man Who Loves You," or the 10-12 others that got played every night. I already own all those songs from multiple other shows and the records. I couldn't justify downloading another full show just to pick up 2-3 songs (read: rarities) I don't have in live versions from this lineup. I realized that I'm just burnt out on everything I have. Which is why a Tweedy solo album with new musicians excites me. Plus, the new Nels Cline Singers record is tops. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

And more details, from Darin's Facebook page: This has been in the works for awhile and I am happy it has now been announced. I am the bassist in long time friend Jeff Tweedy's new band TWEEDY. I have been friends with Jeff since we were teenagers and it makes being in this band an extra special experience. TWEEDY also includes Spencer Tweedy (drums), Jim Elkington (guitar,vocals), Liam Cunningham (guitar, keyboards, vocals), & of course, Jeff Tweedy (vocals, guitar). Making this band extra special is that I've known Spencer since he was born & I've gotta say I am super proud of how far he has advanced as a musician. From the initial rehearsals we had an immediate connection and I am excited to hear how far we can take this rhythm section and this music in general once we hit the road. It is definitely beyond surreal looking over and seeing/hearing this grown man playing drums (not to mention guiding and directing the band from behind them!) that I remember as a baby. Hard to put into words the feeling. Strange in a great way. I literally met Liam & Jim at our first rehearsal. And again, the connection was immediate. It definitely felt like we had known each other for years. These guys are fantastic and it's such a relief to know these guys have my/our backs.It's a strange thing being sort of put together by someone else and it's one of the best feelings in the world when it all just gels together like this band did. Excited for this Summer and excited for fans of Jeff's music to hear a bunch of new songs that he and Spencer created & with a whole new band. I'm sure I will post way too many things about this so be forewarned. Extra special thanks to Jeff Tweedy, the band TWEEDY, all at TMM, Lakland Basses & Aguilar Amplification (more on this soon), & especially Mark Greenberg for his endurance and going beyond the call helping me through this transition. I've been friends with Mark for probably 25 years now. It's an extra special gift to get to spend so much time with him these last few months.So here we go, will keep you posted with more dates and news as they arrive. This tour takes me to some new places and some I've been too many times. Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. All of the other members of Wilco have had side projects before and during Wilco, a Tweedy project is overdue. It was good for the Grateful Dead, it will be good for Wilco. Bennett, Stirratt and Coomer had the Courtesy Move project, and Bennett started doing some production work until TM told him to stop "wh*ring around the Wilco sound." There was some resentment from the rest of the band, particularly because Jeff was dipping his toes in other waters with Golden Smog that whole time. It's in the Kot book. Didn't Jeff produce something with them?Liam is a kick ass musician who has a new band named Marrow. They've only released a two song EP but I saw them live at Shuba's and they killed it.
