Just saw this on Leno. Full band version is pretty much identical to what I have below.

I play it pretty much the same way. Sounds awesome. I'll try to get some of the noise fills up sometime. Don't expect it anytime soon though. I don't want to break any promises! :P

 

I'll pencil it in under "some time after I retire."

Alright. Those noise fills are simply open strings, at least how I play them. So, whenever there is that random "mah mah" during the song, hit a few strings at random. How's that for a cryptic tab? Have fun. Hey Groo, give me some other song to tab out, I'm bored here! :P

I'm not sure if we're thinking about the same thing... but what I haven't figured out are the times where there's a double chord hit that happens udring the main riff, like where the X's are below in relation to the power chord stuff:

are those the "noise" fills you're talking about? Just random open strings?

I was thinking the same thing today. I have no idea, I think there may be a tab of it somewhere around here, maybe it's pinned? Where ever it is, it didn't work for me. Sorry.

The main riffs are really similar. I always thought both songs emerged from the same proto-Wheel-KickingTV jam, though never had any real information that supported that.

 

edit: Actually, you can throw Loose Fur's Street Success (right name?) in there too - almost exactly the same as the Kicking TV riff

i doubt it's right, but i usually just bar the 10 all the way across the fretboard and include those strings as those noise fills.

 

ktv main riff:

5-5-5-5-5

 

the only difference is tweedy doesn't capo on ktv like he does for i'm a wheel, because for the chorus riff he starts from the open string:

and etc.

 

i've also noticed when Tweedy does bars in dropD he just shifts up for the higher chords like he does in ktv for the D chord in the chorus (10th fret bar) instead of crossing strings, thus changing hand position.
