Also which other CD's was Bear involved in, other than the Dead? I swore I had one or two but I can't find them. I thought it was the recent Moby Grape live release, but his name does appear on the liner notes.
Besides the Dead stuff, I don't have any of the others. I guess I don't have any of his.
I'm pretty sure he recorded Gram Parson Archives Vol One : Live at the Avalon Ballroom when the Flying Burrito Brothers were opening for the Dead

Not a huge surprise as he'd been ill for years and retired from music in 1982, but still a bummer!

re : Beefheart
He's got some great albums but Trout Mask Replica is just not one that I pop on too often.
Shiny Beast, Doc at the Radar Station and Lick My Decals Off Baby are all much better albums IMHO.
That being said, TMR is about the coolest album cover ever and when I finally stumbled across a t-shirt here I bought it.

Where does Suicide fit in?

They both have a psychedlic garage rock vibe to them, IMHO.
I did discover them around the same time, so maybe that's influencing my opinion.

i really dig Major Stars, but to me they are more of a live band experience. I realize I'm lucky by having them local, as they don't really tour much outside Boston. ...
You might really enjoy Thee Oh Sees as well if you like White Hills.

I'm guessing you were close enough to see - was that David Cross who came out and sang with Spiral Stairs?

Huh, I must be a terrible Vermonter because I was in that same row J and and had no idea that was Grace Potter.
I think i might have bumped into her when she was trying to get back in. Does that count as a "brush with greatness"?
Sorry Grace!
Band lead singers you met? Friendly, not friendly? Impressions?

After a gig in my small Vermont town, the band Wussy stayed at my house. You might remember singer Chuck Cleaver from his days in the Ass Ponys.
Great folks, super super nice. And a really killer band
