  1. another thing that made me smile -- all of the kids! It was a perfect venue and evening for a family night of rockin' out. This is why I felt the set list was almost perfect -- I wish Hummingbird would have been played, it's Maddie's favorite Wilco song.

I bought tickets for my kids, but they didnt want to go. Oh well, my wife and I had a great time on our own.

  2. Really enjoyed the show last night, had been far too long since I saw Wilco last (Millenium Park, I think). Liked the way Ashes outro'd with a nice jam as opposed to noise, not sure how long they've been performing this way, but it was a nice surprise. Really liked the covers too, Broken Arrow was great, (kudos to including the Mr. Soul portion at the beginning), and when they started Thank You Friends, I had to pinch myself("they can't be doing Big Star, can they???). A very faithful rendition, that was overabundant on the sincere energy that tune conveys. BRAVO!!!!!!

  3. I pretty much always go solo. My wife doesn't like crowds or staying up late, so that pretty much rules out your average rock show. She doesn't mind that I go by myself, I don't mind going alone, she stays home with the kids so no need for a babysitter. That's what you call a win-win.

This about sums it up for me as well! She has become a big Wilco fan and we did go to Millenium Park together and we'll probably go to see them next time, but for the most part I fly solo. I used to photograph a lot of shows so for the most part she would get bored watching me work(which is kind of why I stopped doing it). I dont go to nearly the shows I used to (family obligations) so when I do go I prefer enjoying the show and not babysitting a talking friend etc.

  4. A friend of mine from Chicago who is a regular at Phylliss' Musical Inn says a leader of a certain band is rumored to be performing there tonight around 6pm. Unfortunately I have my mother in town from Floida and can't make the drive up the toll road. Has anyone else heard this?

  5. Icaught a BWTB show in Indy about 15 years ago and they were playing Hard Days Night Outtakes, really rare stuff and I always wondered how are they getting away with this...IN INDIANAPOLIS!!!!! Terri Hemmert spins some rare stuff too, and for these ears hers is the only BWTB that needs to be listened to

  6. A buddy of mine has worked on the Horseshoe remodeling the last year or so as a pipe fitter. According to him the new theater is out of this world! He says they spared no expense and have installed a state of the art sound system to boot. In May he was saying Elton John is going to be the first act to play, but I have not seen this among the acts listed in the Reader's early warnings, but it will probably be a private affair anyway. For those not familiar, the Horseshoe sits right on Lake Michigan so it could have nice views from the lobby etc. There are also some good restaurants in the casino, so it would be nice for dinner and a show!

As far as the Pumpkins playing there? Passe. Its almst as if Billy is trying to punish Chicago for not supporting him thru his lean times, sadly the joke's on him.

  7. Wow, is there a copy of this show???? That was an amazing night of music. Saw the 99 show too, but it didn't have the same vibe. I do remember the second show being much louder tho. Will have to look for that recroding.

  8. Its great that they are doing this no matter the venue. The Riv isn't as exquisite as the Auditorium or Chicago Theatre for sure, but I have seen awesome Wilco gigs there. I have not got tix to shows before and thats no problem, if I want to see someone its never mission impossible to get in. So I will be there on Sat, somehow. That said, it does suck that after going to Wilco shows since 94 this was the first time that I was shut out on the on sale date(sorry for the whining). Heck the Kicking TV Vic shows were a cakewalk to get tix to, and I got some great seats to Millenium Park thru the Music Today preasale. The reality is that scalpers are onto Wilco and their success as a touring band and from what i saw on Fri/Sat the era of easy to tix for Wilco is over. The only solution I could figure out is if they set up some sort of mail order system like the Dead had if they want to insure tix get into the fans hands and not brokers.
