  1. Such a great one-two punch of benefit shows. As usual, fantastic to see everyone in from all around the country. The highlight for me from this show was actually Poor Places, which was performed with such intense emotion. So glad that Russ got his Shakin' Sugar in on the second night...amazing stuff!

I wonder if Jeremy ever paid up the $30 that he owed for strumming the other five chords, or if it was forgiven after he got smacked in the back of the head with the guitar!? That kid was in another world as he was leaving the stage, and is not likely to forget that experience in a good many years.

  2. This took me a while to post, but here's a visual representation of the storm we all survived while waiting in line for the Red Rocks show - this monsoon came after sound check, but before the gates opened. The storm dumped 2 inches in an hour, with a hail storm thrown in to ensure we got the message. The picture was taken after about 40 minutes under our tarp, with everyone holding the edges down against strong winds, and after the volume of rain was so dramatic that it started cascading down the stairs where the crowd was waiting in line. We all ended up with red-stained pants, socks and shoes! Dramatic experience, but we'll all remember this aspect of the show, to be sure.

Had a blast seeing friends from previous shows, and meeting some new ones too. Just about everything that I would have said about the show has already been said in this thread.

Many thanks to the gentlemen in the band who bring us much musical happiness...2 1/2 hours per night!

  3. Have 2 tickets for Row 27 Reserved at Red Rocks. Looks like that ends up being 3rd row in the reserved portion of seating.

The two tickets come to $89 after TM charges.

    Contact nortling@hotmail.com if you're interested.

    Thanks!

  4. The "I Will" song was definitely the strongest song of the set. It had me on the edge of my seat. Does anyone know how new it is?

I concur. (Don't know how old it is though.) That song was dark and beautiful, and I think a recording would be amazing as it was played last night.

So great to see so many of you from the Residency shows, and also nice to meet some new people. Hope to see you all again soon!

As has already been posted, kind of a short show. But I think that we may be spoiled, as many artists don't come close to playing as long as a typical JT solo set.

Kingpin was silly. And my friend who made the trek with me was born and raised in Pekin, so the fact that it actually got played was a treat. A goofy dreamsicle.

  5. Anyone have any tips on where to stay, eat, drink..be merry?

There's no shortage of places to eat and drink, both in campus town, in downtown Champaign, and downtown Urbana. Haven't been down to the area in several years, but The Office was a great place for beverages in downtown Urbana, and apparently White Horse is open again in Champaign - that will make my husband happy! (As that was the leading reason given for not going to this show originally.) As for food, Radio Maria's was our favorite place to eat. We'll be dining there again for sure. (Though I hear that the tapas menu is mediocre.)

To stay, if you feel like splurging, the Union has a hotel, and it's directly across the quad from Foellinger Hall. So, convenient too! http://www.union.uiuc.edu/services/hotel

Otherwise, it's a college town, and hotels abound.

    Hope this helps...

  6. How could anyone forget Bubba!? Can't wait for another great experience this year! And for multiple causes to boot. ;) Good times...

I'm tempted to try to attend these shows as well! Plus it's for really good causes.

Last year was a REALLY good show ... plus funny too. Remember the "Bubba the bus driver" story ? :lol

  7. Have two extra pair of tix for the January 29th show in Kalamazoo, MI.

    1 pair: Section Left, Row D, Seats 12, 13

Other pair: Section Left, Row BB, Seats 7, 8

Each pair cost $63 after fees.

Please contact: nortling@hotmail.com, or PM me if you are interested.

    Thanks!

  8. Love it, hate it, shred it. Wish what he might have done, rue what he didn't. But it is the same guy that at one time did something that you more deeply embraced. And may yet again. Anticipate what he/they can and will accomplish. But I can't begin to profess to know who Jeff Tweedy and Co. are, and who they should be. I'm thankful for what they've done and are doing.

    Very nicely and succinctly worded!

    I'm still enamored.

  9. Great show. "Nudie suits" all around. I picked out owls, skulls, kitty cats, whales and dragonflies as embellishments. Crazy cool.

Two songs were left off the official setlist; Heavy Metal Drummer and I'm the Man Who Loves You. One new song played - listed as One Wing.

Really an amazing show. I made a fool out of myself way up front with my husband. Really great way to start out our vacation in the beautiful southwest.

Hope you're well, happeningstone. Say hey to Vdub.

Nice to see fellow VCers last night (Rick and Lori).

    Rock on.

More of the setlist? That would be a great start. :thumbup
  11. I'm almost embaressed by how often I see myself in these, but more importantly I see about 20 great new friends. It's truly gonna be sad when this is all over.

100% agree with you, Greg. What an amazing run of shows, and captured just how I remember on film. Thanks for the documentation, chaslor!

Can't wait for the grand finale tonight...

  12. catching my second wind...dude that's really funny (and true!)! You're in tosa...we need to get a drink sometime! Brianne, now that I think about it, you may have been sitting right next to my friend Andrew. Are you the one Jeff hugged at the end of the first set?

EPM - You must have been just to my right then! I was directly in front of Nels...was that you?

  13. "I don't think Wilco would have punished the whole audience unless the fight was escalating to the point where innocent bystander were at risk."

The fight broke out just behind me, and it did escalate pretty dramatically...to the point that the instigator was punching his female companion in the face. WAY too much alcohol consumption and too little security reaction/presence. Wonder if we'll see more security on the remainder of the tour...

Phenomenal show regardless. Being that close to Nels and being able to truly appreciate the nuances in his style was more than I can express with words. Looking forward to Indy tomorrow night... :D
