  1. Where the hell is VoodooFest?

And can we start HoodooVoodooFest? I propose a lineup of Golden Smog, Autumn Defense, Billy Bragg, Loose Fur, The Nels Cline Singers, The Minus 5 (with special guests Wilco), a four hour headlining set from Wilco, and a special surprise reunion of the Nels Cline Trio.

  2. Jesus, etc. was written by Jay and Jeff right at the end of the Foxtrot sessions and there's a good possiblity there was never an alternate version mixed. I've never heard of a demo of Radio Cure either, it was likely finished towards the end as well. Don't know for sure though, maybe a third disc of these sessions will eventually surface, they certainly have the material for it.

While a more proper demo would be cool, it's awesome to hear "Corduroy Cut-Off Girl" evolve into "Radio Cure," one of the best parts of the demos in my opinion.

  3. Short summary for those who don't like to read: qwitcherbitchen!

Actually Wilco does mix it up quite a lot compared to most "major" bands; a lot of them have the same setlist for every single stop on the tour, so we should count ourselves lucky there. There are also always going to be a core group of songs that the band likes to play and therefore is awesome at, and that the people coming to shows for the first time can be expected to recognize with limited exposure to the band (the so-called "hits"), so it's unreasonable to not expect 5-10 songs to be played consistently at nearly every show.

Thankfully we have wilcobase, and out of the 307 songs listed that the band has EVER played, the band (not just Jeff solo) has performed 76 of them (give or take a few) in the past year's touring, beginning with this spring's shows. Subtract the 170 or so covers and obscure tracks the band has played less than 10 times, and Wilco has played roughly 55% (76 of 137) of their extensive back catalogue while trying out new material as well. Consider also that Wilco's official LP releases (not counting Mermaid Avenues) only total 70 tracks. With each show usually ranging from 20 to 25 songs, statistically it's a pretty significant amount of variation. (Warning: All math approximate and subject to error.)

Rob has added a great new feature to wilcobase, so you can check out the last time your favorite song got played. So the next time you complain that the band never plays it anymore, you can find out how wrong you are-- you just weren't at the show.

Unless it's Pieholden Suite or Pot Kettle Black. Please play those at the Auditorium, guys!

  4. Some good pics of the show from the student paper. First few are of the opener.

Overall I think it was a good show. My friends (both Wilco virgins) enjoyed it and I had a good time, though it wasn't as good as the other shows I've seen. And after experiencing the band with and without an opener, I have to say I appreciate the Evenings With Wilco a lot more. There were good performances from the band, especially considering it was the first night back on the road and they were running late due to traffic. I hung around before the show and they didn't get there until 5:30, and didn't finish the soundcheck until maybe an hour before the show. The guys seemed to be in good spirits then; wish I could have hung around after to say hi again and meet of of you all from the board.

  5. Another awesome show from the guys. Jeff mentioned Woodgrain's letter, talking about "one of the websites where people write about us," and said the crowd was pretty tame, he asked if they weren't intoxicating us with their music. :cheers After the first encore break he said that a momentus occasion had passed: he and John got married. The opening act was pretty good; the crowd got more into it as the show went on after a lame start.
