  1. I'd put money on it that the strat on Conan was a fake, or a relic. If you've been around enough old guitars and then see some of the fakes they are really close but not close enough... Check out Greenwich Village Custom guitars or Bill Nash Guitars to see what I mean....

    My guess on JT's guitars are they are worth a lot more than he's got into them. He probably bought them when they were not as outragous as they are now...

    I bought a 61 es 330 four years ago for 2k a good one goes for 6k now.. it's sick.. check out 50's les paul jr's... fast approaching the 15k mark.. two years ago you could of had a good on for half that.... :{

    forgive my ignorance, but why was there the jump in the price of vintage guitars? I know its simple supply and demand but why the jump in demand?

  2. Thanks guys. I went ahead and put in my bid for the Vox. Depending on how it sounds I may get the blue speakers myself and have them installed. I saw a web site offering them for 250 a pop, but how much should I expect for installation?

    Also, I've been using a SS for the last 6 years so I am more than ready to move to tube these days.

  3. I still love my 50's Strat to this day. The production year was 99 but I think all the Mexi strats are Alder bodies now so you should be good with any of those. Plus if you've got cash left over, its a good idea to upgrade the pickups too.

  4. well, if you figure he has a few j-45's and other assorted gibson acoustics, as well as two pre-war martins, the santa cruz, as well as god knows how many effects and amps and electric guitars...such as vintage Casinos, Barney Kessels, SG's, Telecasters, apparently a white strat, etc...i'd say close to maybe 100 G's? just throwing out a figure.

    Yeah I saw his white strat on Conan, 3 coils, I guess he could have had it on loan though, I hear Conan collects guitars too.

    His Vox AC30 is a hand wired reissue so that's a big bit of cash right there too.

  5. Hey my budget is ideally under 1G but for awhile I wanted the Vox AC30CC2X, so I'm willing to go a fair amount over it.

    The tone I want is a warmer version of the kicking television version of Late Greats and for the clean channel I'm looking for a bellsy radiohead a la Let Down type tone.

    I play through a Strat with Fat 50's pick ups. Also, I need a new OD pedal so suggestions to that are welcome as well

    Thanks for any help.

    I spotted a Made in England Vox reissue for under 1 G should I go for it I believe the auction ends tomorrow.

  6. It's right after Tweedy sings "My Heart is wrapped in ice." Its around the 2 minute mark on Kicking Television.

    It's also the organ part in the studio version, but I'd like to know how to play it on the gee tar.

    Thanks.
