Okay, so my setup's always changing...
GUITARS:
my beat up 1959 Sunburst Fender Jazzmaster (tortoise guard) w/ original pickups and Mastery Bridge
a homemade relic 50's style Tele w/ a Bill Bores-installed B-Bender and Duncan Antiquity pickups
I need to get an acoustic at some point. I saw a Recording King the other day that I really liked.
AMP:
Dr. Z Maz 38 2x12" combo w/ reverb and effects loop
SIGNAL CHAIN:
Guitar -> Z. Vex Fuzz Factory -> homemade Tonebender MK II clone -> Korg Pitchblack Tuner
-> 2-knob Keeley Compressor -> Lovepedal Eternity OD -> Z. Vex Box of Rock -> Ernie Ball
Volume Pedal Junior -> Demeter Tremulator -> Boss DD-6 -> EHX Deluxe Memory Man
-> Amp (w/ Digitech RV-7 Hardwire Reverb in effects loop, sitting on top)
KEYS:
Korg microKORG synth
M-Audio MIDI controller -> Intel MacBook running Ableton Live (for loops, Mellotron, and noises)
MISCELLANEOUS:
Hawaiian koa ukelele
Hagstrom plectrum banjo
Pearl bell set (cheap glockenspiel) w/ hard rubber mallets
Hohner 32-key Piano Melodica
harmonicas in various keys
no-name accordion (currently broken )
shaker, cabasa, jingle bells, and tambourine
I have way to much crap. I think I need professional help.

On electric, I always bust out the opening riffs from the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again".
Nothing quite like the satisfying kerrrang of that open A / G / D progression.
On acoustic, I usually pick out some "Ashes of American Flags" or "Paranoid Android" by
Radiohead.
With piano I'll play the intro to "Hell Is Chrome", or Wurly, I'll go with some "I Am The
Walrus".
I am a nerd, I realize.

In our band, our lead singer/rhythm guitar uses an L.R. Baggs I-Beam in his acoustic and runs it into the Baggs Para Acoustic DI as a preamp/eq. It sounds pretty darn good, but I think the key is to pick a pickup that works with the type of guitar you have. The I-Beam has a very bassy output, and he plays through a 000 sized Martin knockoff, so it makes up for that guitar's relatively mild low end. That said, it would probably be too boomy on a J45 or Jumbo.
