  1. My first RSD this year..

    Got myself:

    Fleet Foxes 12"

    Gorillaz 12"

    Radiohead 12"

    Iron & Wine 7"

    Black Mountain 7"

A couple of ideas for future RSD's - give people the option of pre-ordering from the record stores the items they actually want, so shops know how much of each record to order. Obviously would only work if pressing no's were increased. Then on the day of RSD you could just walk in and pick up your vinyl. You're still buying from the store on RSD, you just get more of a chance of picking up the items you want.

Also if the stores took the factory wrapping off the RSD releases, then then couldn't be as easily sold on as "new - factory sealed" on ebay.

And why not make customers sign a pledge like the stores have to do? Not sure the logistics behind this though..

I think there is always going to be people buying limited releases to sell straight away online, just like ticket scalpers, the important thing is that everyone else has a chance to buy the records they want in the first place.

  2. from what i heard, it was experimental noise. i was gonna go, but changed my mind at the last minute

yep, experimental noise is a good description.

Bennett's lane is a really small venue and we manage to snag some seats pretty close to the stage. I'm not too familiar with either Nels or Glenns work outside of Wilco, but it was basically an hour of experimental music. There was alot of strange noise making, lots of cool guitar effects, and Glenn had a pretty interesting set-up which included some amplified springs/ropes & also some hand clappers!! Nels had this really cool kazoo type thing that he played over the pickups of his guitar to amplify the sound, and played his guitar by tapping on the back of the neck which produced a really nice sound.

Was a really great show, not something i'd listen to everyday though..

  3. Great show/setlist. Band was in top form, and Jeff was pretty talkative which was good to see! Nels double neck guitar is possibly the ugliest guitar i've ever seen though..!!!

Highlights: Nels shredding it up on Impossible Germany, and at least thats what you said - was pretty close to perfect.

Also.. I love the no photography policy! First gig i've been to in ages that wasn't full of people holding up iphones.

Enjoy the second show tonight for those lucky enough!

  4. The Tshirt with tour dates on them has a rather ugly moose on the front, with the antlers spelling out Wilco. But its kinda hard to make out, a friend thought it said "Willie". Why a moose?? We don't even have moose in Australia.. Do we not have enough native animals of our own that can spell out Wilco?

Roughly, and VERY roughly because I wasn't really paying attention, Liam is on around 8-3.30 and Wilco have been starting around 9ish and finishing after 11. But please double check, I wouldn't want you to miss something because I told you the wrong time.

HA! i'll look out for the moose..

Thanks for the rough times, looks like i might need to make a mad dash down swanston st to catch the start.

  5. Has anyone got any idea what the set times are for tonights show? I have a jazz festival show before hand and am trying to work out when i'll need to leave.

And whats the merchandise like for this tour? Wilco always seem to have cool posters, but crappy (love police...) tshirts. Is it much of the same?

  6. So it costs $55USD for the bundle and $55.72USD for the cheapest shipping option to Australia... How can shipping be more expensive then the actual records???

So if I order through Insound I get the records for $67.97, and shipping for $15. total $82.97.

not really much incentive to purchase through the Wilco store...

  7. a good place to look for the smaller A3 size posters is level 3 at melbourne central, just outside the village cinema. they always have up to date concert posters on the pillars/walls.

edit: also try souvalaki king on brunswick st. the walls there are literally full of posters.

  8. i'm still waiting. add to the wait the radiohead discbox, and now arcade fire tickets... lots of waiting...

well my discbox came yesterday. and my wilco tickets came today!!!!!! now i'm just waiting for my arcade fire tickets.

  9. so what does everyone think about disc 2?

loving it after a handful of listens. i'm so glad they released disc 2!!! last flowers, go slowly and 4 minute warning are all great.

i'm still waiting for my discbox down here in oz, i'm hoping for a next week delivery.

  10. its the same price as april pretty much. at least the metro is standing room and you wont have to put up with the "sit down" crowd. thats why the sydney show was more enjoyable for fans and the band, by the looks of how it was

i personally liked the sit down show and i think the palais is a much better place for music. having them play at the metro means my girlfriend wont go because she wont be able to see anything.

but i have tickets now so enough of that!!!! WILCO WILCO WILCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

did i read that the pre-sale ticket holders get let in early???

  11. Ok, I managed to join the files on my iBook. It seems that Zipeg doesn't handle 7zip files like I'd expected.

    Download Drop7Zip here: http://emulation.victoly.com/download/

Just drop the .001 file onto the Drop7Zip icon and it should begin extracting everything to an Xvid AVI file. It'll play perfectly with VLC.

I guess that's what I get for converting the hi-def .TS (transport stream) file to AVI on my Mac and then splitting it on a PC.

ha!! ok so i downloaded that program, and i get this: Error: /Desktop/acl.zip.001.zip is not supported archive

i managed to get an avi file out of it by removing the .zip but it was only bits and peices of the whole thing and crashed vlc...

i think i'll cut my losses and just head to the torrent. cheers for all your help.

  12. I hate Stuffit, so I have no idea if it works for spanned archives. I'd expect it to, but I refuse to put that junk on my Mac to try it out. It might be easiest to just give Zipeg a shot.

tried that as well. got the error message "unsupported format"... stuffit usually works for spanned files, i've used it in the past. this is starting to piss me off. i just want to watch the f***ing video!!! :realmad

  13. They're just spanned Zips. If you're using Windows, 7-Zip (free) will work. Just right-click on the first file and choose "extract here." Something like that.

    http://www.7-zip.org/

Mac users should be able to use something like Zipeg (free)

    http://www.zipeg.com/zipeg.html

I would think that any software that can handle Zip files should be able to extract spanned Zip files.

i'm on a mac, and i use stuffit expander for zip files. i get the error message "Unable to archive "acl.zip.001.zip" into desktop". (Error 2 - no such file or directory). i have all 3 files on the desktop... not sure going wrong.

  14. So far I have:

    1. Radiohead - In Rainbows

    2. Wilco - Sky Blue Sky

    3. Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger

    4. Band Of Horses - Cease To Begin

    5. Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Honorable mentions: PJ Harvey, Iron & Wine, Arcade Fire, Architecture In Helsinki, Bjork

  15. how do these work? the extension after the .zip is like .001 and my computer can't recognize them. If I try and change them it says the file doesn't work.

i was just about to post the same thing. anyone know how to get these files to open/extract?

  16. i wish they would hurry up and list the on sale dates. hopefully the palais do the pre-order thing they did last time, i managed to snag 5th row tickets about a week after they went on pre-sale, this time i'll be getting in as soon as possible.

is there any chance of jeff doing a solo show in melbourne? that would be awesome!!!!!
