  1. Did someone realize that maybe that was too small a place?

Gah! Too good to be true. Wellington is pretty bad for suitable venues, hence why good bands hardly ever come here. Seeing Wilco in a too-small-for-them venue would have been a treat. I hope they find an alternative rather than scrap the gig altogether.

  2. Yeah the guard was pointing out someone behind my right shoulder too. I think he spent most of the night trying to figure out who was using flash a lot, and eventually singled them out.

I was front row in front of Jeff, possibly standing right next to you Carla. And I have a pretty good idea of who/where Froggie was, thanks to Jeff pointing him out!

  3. The one on the left side of the stage? He approached us at least 5 times to either ask us about the camera or to make sure we weren't videoing. We were going to, but he was very vigilant!

Nice pics! Yeah, that was him. He never said anything to me but I got the message loud and clear from what he was saying to people around me (which would've included you, considering the angle of our pics :) )

  4. Finally back home. Sydney show definitely made the trip to Australia worth it. What a way to end the trip. I guess I'm just one of those people who have nothing better to do than follow a rock band round... ;)

Here's a few of my photos. They're not very good, but thought I'd share anyway. Note to self: quicker shutter speed when not using flash!

And here's a few (very short) videos. One of the security guards seemed pretty good at knowing when you were holding your camera up for too long to simply be framing a shot...

PS - So glad the Hummingbird dance/run got caught on video, thanks!

  5. Amazing show!

Haven't had time to read all these comments, internet tmer ticking down and about to catch flight to Sydney.

Glad everyone had a great time too! After all the hassle of pre-booking from NZ I ended up with row J (9 rows back). Initial disappointment wore off when I realised how close I seemed when sitting down.

Jeff seemed genuinely taken aback to see everyone had standed and moved down the front for the encore. It was nice to move a little closer for the encore songs - and Acuff Rose, my god!

See ya in Sydney. Enjoy Melb tonight!

(The band walked passed me in a restuarant on that main St in St Kilda. Pretty much made my afternoon).

  6. yeah, they did auckland on the way to australia in 2003

I was there, but it wasn't until a month later that I first heard YHF and instantly became a fan. So the fact that I remember watching Wilco set up and then I WALKED AWAY as they started playing has haunted me to this day :upset

Well, really it will haunt me until April 18 when I finally see Wilco and put things right.

That's my semi-justification for travelling so far/spending so much to see them. But I imagine I don't need to justify it to you guys :thumbup

  7. they wont tell you (apparently they're not allowed to).. we've tried. they're posting them out today you'll see when you get them. if the fax was sent before today they should be better than the 4th row

When we called to see if they received the fax (sent Monday) they said they don't post tickets to New Zealand, so I have to pick them up from the venue in April. But thanks for the reply, probably just saved me another toll call to Aus.

  8. Got my standing ticket to Sydney's show! Luckily I happen to be flying into Sydney on the last day I'm able to pick tickets up from the office.

Now I'm keen to call the Palais again and see what seats I've scored with my fax booking. If it is closer that fourth row (which is very close guys!) I'd be very surprised, and ecstatic.

Phew. Tickets and flights are sorted. I can relax now, kinda. :)

  9. Yeah, I've read Wilco are happy with non-flash photography as long as it is ok with the venue, so I guess it is up to the Palais.

This is what it says on Wilco's site

wilco does allow non-flash still photography wherever it does not conflict with venue or other restrictions beyond our control. please be considerate of others. we do not allow video taping, and ask that you refrain from using your cel phones during concerts.
  10. Well after a frantic morning of trying to organise someone to send a fax for me while I was at work... I apparently now have two tickets for the Palais. No idea where I'm sitting. The person I'm going with rang them to confirm that the fax had worked, and the woman was incredibly relaxed about it. I guess it's out of my hands now and I'll just hope that when I come over to Australia I'll have two (decent) tickets waiting for me at the venue.

I guess I could call sometime later to ask where I'm seated, and ask about the venue's policy on cameras - does anyone know?

  11. Hi,

I'm completely new to this site, and I need some help!

I live in New Zealand and am planning to fly over for the Melb and Syd dates, as it doesn't look like they're announcing any NZ gigs.

But this ticket buying business is getting confusing. For travelling all that way I want to have good seats!

Is the Palais Theatre seating only, no GA/Standing at the front? If so I'll want to get in on the prebooking.

Going to their box office is kind of out of the question so I guess I'll need to find a fax machine...

So yeah, could someone please let me know the set up of the Palais? And how they get on pre-booking tickets? Thanks!
