  1. FWIW, I'll be taping Melb N2. Can't squeeze N1 into my gig budget though. Stupid comedy festival. :(

    1) I screwed up the dates and ended up going to Melb N1 and not N2

    2) My battery suffered a beery death just before California Stars, so I only got ~90 mins of the set. :(

    3) Anyone still want me to torrent what I've got? Otherwise I won't bother.

  2. Even though I recorded the webcast, I'd also like to see a FLAC. version of your recording...once you've gotten some sleep and have the time to put it together, of course. The webcasts can't be circulated as a torrent, and having any Australian show circulate is kind of rare for us fans. In the band's history, I think there's only one of two Australian shows that are available out there.

Thanks for taking the time to share what you have so far. :music

    ...and here 'tis: http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=514239

    Enjoy.

Just to reiterate, this really was one of the best gigs I've seen.

  3. whatboutbob you gonna put hte rest of your mp3's up?

mp3's, no. am happy to torrent the full show in flac on etree, but so far i've had all of 1 person mention they want it - so i'm not exactly in a rush, what with work and sleep getting in the way. ;)

  7. not true - i bought mine at 11:00am and paid 88$-all-up and another VC'er bought them at 1pm and paid the same price. the shows are general admission so you wont be sitting anywhere, except the floor from the looks of it

I would personally prefer the palais because i'm an old fuddy duddy and taping will be easier there, but i think the metro will be a significantly better venue for Wilco.

I would imagine the gig is 18+ only - it is a nightclub after all.

    http://www.metronightclub.com/default.asp?p=12

I also believe the tickets the LP are selling at the moment are the "pre-announce" tickets, so they will most likely be letting us in early - all the more important for a GA venue.

  8. half empty! tracks not played last night...

via chicago, at least that's what you said, sky blue sky, muzzle of bees, misunderstood, what light, reservations, hesitating beauty, passenger side... a couple more, i think...

    and i'm a wheel.

It'll be interesting to hear what everyone has to say about tonight, but personally i think it absolutely killed last night. The band just seemed to have a lot more energy, and the house mix was soooo much better. Of course it could just be that I could actually hear the bass, drums and jeff's vocals which made me feel like it was a lot more rockin'. The crowd was still pretty subdued of course, given that most of them sat through most of the show...but I really enjoyed the gig.

The venue loses points cos I had to actually point out to them that Glenn Richards had started his set (2 songs in) before they would open the balcony doors to let us in - after a few of us had been waiting for about 20 mins to get in. Retards. I was rather pissed about that.

Anyone snag a setlist? Makes tracking easier for me.

  9. last nite was my first time at the palais & while i thought wilco playing at a seated venue was bizarre, i never thought people would stay seated the entire show. i thought my chair was going to break with as much as i was dancing in it.

i have to agree with asleepykisser, this was the most 'ordinary' performance i've seen wilco give (and I've seen them probably 4 or so times as well). the energy was low (which i contribute to the lack of audience participation via the seated arrangement). i felt frustrated and disappointed until the encore. i'm not saying wilco's performance was bad - the atmosphere was bad.

i'm going tonight as well & i can't sit through another show like that. whoever else is going (asleepykisser, whataboutbob, anyone else)... let's stand. chat to the audience around you before hand, if people start standing, the ushers won't be able to get everyone to sit. and everyone will enjoy the show more.

i'm in row W tonite - i think stuck somewhere in the middle.

twitter me at Ycnt_ibdonlyjen (http://twitter.com/Ycnt_ibdonlyjen ) for a drink before or coordinated dancing. :) jen

Sorry mate...Mr Sleepy and I won't be much help to you from up in the balcony tonight - standing's banned up there (i kid you not...they're afraid it'll fall down... still not kidding).

  10. I don't think Nels Cline is capable of playing anything that could be considered embarrassing. "Shredding" and "noodling" and "wanking" are so far removed from describing what Nels plays that I can't help but picture someone viewing a room full of Picassos and complaining that the subjects' noses are on sideways.

My favorite written quote about Mr. Cline was something along the lines of "He always plays the right thing at the right time."

Just a few random comments, keeping in mind that this was the first time I've seen Wilco.

    1) It was the quietest gig I've heard at the Palais (I would've seen about 30 gigs there) - this isn't neccessarily a bad thing, but worth noting.

    2) I really didn't think much of the mix. I chose my seats because the mix usually sounds best there. I pity the others if that was the case last night. Nels was very, very prominent in the mix and as such I can understand asleepykisser's comments about him to some extent - it really did feel like 'the Nels and Wilco show'. In my very pleb opinion the drums were far too low, as was the bass - Jeff's vocals varied - occassionally just right, but often a little low. Having said that, the Palais is a hard venue for FOH - the SBD is buried waaaay up the back of the room, under the balcony, so what you're hearing there is not indicative of what 2/3 of the audience above is hearing. I'd go so far as to say this is the second-worst sounding show I've seen there (if you're curious, Beth Orton tops them - ridiculously loud bass).

    3) The atmosphere was a little staid...I suspect the venue did have a little to do with it, but about 2/3 thru the gig I leaned over to my partner and whispered 'I really expected them to rock a little more' - the last 3rd was a lot rockier. Not making a judgement - just simply saying how expected one thing (Wilco noob remember), and got something a lot mellower for most of the show.

    4) I had fun. The band was very, very tight. They're clearly talented musos. Jeff was endearing, amusing and sounded great.

asleepykisser: come say hello tonight...I'm flying solo tonight too and will be 3 seats over from you with my taping gear.

  11. Froggie, as requested, here's Acuff Rose:

Keep in mind that I was in the balcony, so don't expect this to be loud. I've aleready amplified it considerably. You'll note some mic rustle at the beginning of the song as I had to readjust the mics (they were previously pointing at the right stack), and lots of pops, pings and camera clicks throughout - i'm pretty sure you can hear a pin drop somewhere around the one minute mark too.

No more requests pls...i'll have this up on etree in a jiffy.
