  1. A couple of things that really I thought were crucial my freshman year were:

    1. Carpet - Weather it be an area rug or one from the local hardware store that covers the whole floor, it will make a huge difference in the comfort level of your room. I suggest the full rug.

    2. A nice big mini fridge if its allowed, the more room the better, you'd be amazed with how much you'll use it.

    3. Wireless headphones - this isn't really crucial but I found them to be rather nice. I like to go to sleep listening to music, and it also helps if you and your roommate(assuming you'll have one) have different sleep schedules.

    4. Get a loft, it makes all the difference in the world as far as floorspace is concerned.

    5. An open mind - as cliche as it may seem, I think a good attitude can make all the difference. It's a crazy but fun time in life and if you're not expecting it to be different, you'll miss out on a lot. I'm glad I've got two years(maybe two and a half or three, we'll see) of it left.

Sit back, relax and enjoy some of the best times of your life.

  2. I'm actually pretty excited about this. Since Bonnaroo's headliners are... well... lackluster. I'm not sure how the atmosphere is going to be with metallica fans. Metal, metallica, death and destruction are not my cup of tea, nor did I think it was bonnaroo's.

Rothbury is far closer to home , and the surrounding area is really, really nice. Sliver lake has some of the best dunes I have ever been to, and Oceana County is one of the most beautiful in the lower peninsula. The lineup isn't amazing especially for $245 ticket prices, but it's better than anything else around here besides lolla(which doesn't really have the camping experience). Rothbury is definitely an option for me right now.

  3. I voted too, and I also think that it is a very complete list, at least for me.

    thats a pretty terrible list.

ryan adams, josh ritter, bright eyes, band of horses, modest mouse, the shins, and the new pornographers all had terrible, boring releases this year compared to their other albums.

that list is like if you are a somewhat known indieish band that had a release in 07 you make it.

The idea of an end of the year list is to compare albums to other ones released that year, not to previous releases by the artists.

  4. Best:

    1. Andrew bird playing violin, on Jesus etc. with them in Detroit.

    2. Seeing them close with Casino Queen, and Outasite Outamind in Detroit.

    Missed:

    1. I was at Bonnaroo, but missed them play there. (for 4th row white stripes spots)

  5. My sister introduced me to the phenomena that is Soulja Boy over Thanksgiving, that song makes me want to do damage to people/objects.

That song drives me up the freakin' walls. I does not help that just about every other college student seems to think its the greatest thing since sliced bread. It seems like at every single sporting event and party it must be played a good dozen times too. Fortunately, I have a better stereo than anyone within earshot of my apartment, and have no problem blasting some Andrew Bird or The National to drown out the garbage. :D

  6. Bad news. :( Looks like it's time for waffles and others to do some ISP searching

Last week we reported that LeaseWeb forced SumoTorrent to move to another ISP due to pressure from BREIN. In that article we published a list of other potential BRIEN targets hosted by LeaseWeb (we left out dozens of other sites) including mybittorrent.com, btmon.com, btjunkie.org, seedpeer.com, what.cd and waffles.fm.

Over the past few days several admins of the sites in this list confirmed to TorrentFreak that they indeed got a letter from LeaseWeb in which they were asked to move their websites before the end of the month. At this point it is not sure whether the dozens of other, mostly smaller private BitTorrent communities, received a similar letter. A questionable request since BitTorrent sites are not considered to be illegal according to Dutch law.

PS, thanks for the invite Loial. :D

  7. Also, what's the deal with Michigan teams? In case you haven't heard, #8 Michigan St. lost to division II Grand Valley State in an exhibition game.

I like to pretend that that didn't happen, especially since on paper, it didn't happen. I was there, 8 rows off the floor, and I can tell you that our freshman are simply amazing, we just need to get our returning players to remember how to play basketball.

  8. I apologize for offending all of you tapers, but like I said, I would not have shared it in a lossy format if it had not been asked for. I could have put it on a cd, and that would have been smart, but I am not.

The East Lansing show was my first concert ever and I wanted to document it. At that point I didn't even know how to use a torrent, it took me a few hours to even figure out how to download it, and then I didn't have the media player to play it(and it was 6GB). So I compressed it. Again sorry for my lack of etiquette . And also, on that note thank you so much that take so much pride in recording the shows and sharing it with us.

PS, I took down the torrent.

  9. I will when you and others learn the protocol for live show sharing.

I converted it to MP3, for space reasons.

I am a poor college student, I don't have money for a new hard drive. And I'm getting close to filling up my hard drive. So I don't have room for six gigabytes for one concert on my hard drive. I wouldn't have put the torrent up if people did not ask for it.

  10. I am the said roommate I guess, I got the show from here back when they hosted torrents here. I converted it to MP3, for space reasons. I'll make a torrent and put it up on demonoid, after this next class. This East Lansing show was my first one, and unfortunately the only live Wilco show I have on my computer.

Here is the link If you can't download torrents PM me, and we'll come up with another way to send it.

EDIT: I took down the torrent since it was angering lots of people. Sorry guys.

  11. Man, what a great show. It's only the second time I've seen them, but this show was spot on. I almost forgot how much Wilco can rock, but after that second encore... just wowworshippy.gif. Andrew Bird was fantastic, both solo and as the '7th member'. If anyone knows where I can get the recording that would be awesome.

  12. -A rug from lowes or somewhere like it. Just having carpet will make such a difference, and having a full one is much better than an area rug.

-Tool kit. I can't tell you how many times it came in handy. It's also quite a chick magnet.

-Those hooks that hang on the wall with 3M adhesive.

-Wireless headphones. Those things were so freakin nice for the nights that my roommate had his girlfriend over.

-The biggest Mini fridge you can find. It's always nice to have your "waters" cool.

  13. I'm definetly thinking about going to DJ Shadow's set.

Aesop Rock, El-P, DJ Shadow > The String Cheese Incident.

It should be crazy in This Tent that night.

I'll be there as well, assuming I make it there.
