  1. I haven't heard the new album yet, but i've read many of the descriptions posted here. It seems to me that WTA is kind of like Sky Blue Sky Vol. II.

I liked SBS, but i didn't love it all the way through like i love their previous albums. SBS seemed like half of a great album (either way and you are my face are superb, musically and lyrically), but half the tracks were lacklustre, mostly musically so.

It seems like combining SBS with WTA will result in a great album between them.

p.s. it's a good thing the new album isn't called "Wilco (the Full-length)", else the acronym would be WTF.

  2. If you want great albums created without conflict:

    Beach Boys - Friends

Bob Dylan - John Wesley Harding

wisdom revealed through peace and solitude and everyday surroundings. Wilco had a go at this with SBS, but half the songs just weren't good enough.

  3. Maybe it's just me, but i still can't get into the chorus.

Those triplets just grate my nerves. Especially the accented hi-hat after each one. Doodle-doo , doodle-doo . To me, it doesnt seem irreverent or creative, it seems bereft of anything to put in its place.

But then, that is only my opinion. And opinions are like skin cells. Everyone has them, there are roughly eight layers, and they gradually shed themselves over time.

In byrd9999's Fantasy Wilco World, the song is edited and it makes my SBS album tracklist. Without the edit, the song's a b-side.

  4. I really like SBS, i think it is a real 'grower', and the 20th time i listen to it is much better than the first, but there is still one part of the album that i can't get my head around: Shake It Off.

I like this song, the gentle jazzy start, Jeff's soft and nuanced vocals, are all excellent. And the transition around 1:30, where the keyboards enter and the band get into a deep groove, is superb.

But i just dont like the 'Shake it off' doodle-doo. doodle-doo. Doo-do, doo-doo bits. I find it dull and a bit crappy. Once this bit is over, the gentleness resumes and i can enjoy it again. The keyboards reenter around 4:00 and some sweet guitar work its nicely behind Jeff's voice...

...And then it goes back into the moronic 'Shake it off doodle-doo' bit once more.

    why, guys? Why!?

It's right in the middle of the album and interrupts the flow, i dont like holding the 'skip' button for several seconds just to get back to the good bits. i dont like being on edge during the song, waiting for the bad bit to come around again.

And the same 70s monolithic rockgroove trick is used again in Hate it Here, but it works better in HIH because it's dressed up nicer.

Can someone create an edit of the song without these bits so i can enjoy the song?

  5. Oink or Demonoid or Soulseek...wherever you gets your illegal groove on.

There wouldnt happen to be any kind slsk users with any particular user names round here, would there? File searches are showing live versions, but not the studio version. Not that i use slsk, of course.

  6. Hi Mr Beltman. I have XP too, but my screen looks slightly different to yours. My D Drive just says 'Audio CD'.

I have enabled Flash on my quicktime player, but i go to open a file from the SBS CD, and it still only has the 12 audio tracks.

Wilco are just being silly. they even sent me the email telling me to put my CD in my computer, but it appears the UK versions aren't enhanced :(

  7. So far, it is a download of The Thanks I Get. I had to enable flash on my Quicktime in order to get this to work. Did you follow what Mr. Beltman posted?

I'm trying to follow Mr. Beltman. I dont know where the Device for Removable Storage is though.

Also, when i go to Control Panel, and open up Quicktime Settings, i can't see an Advanced tab.

is there anyway this can be explained even more simply? Sorry...but i am thankful for any help.

  8. Back to accessing the enhanced content...i am still stuck!

I put the CD in my laptop, go to My Computer, but i dont know where to find the 'Devices With Removable Storage'. Usually, i just right click the CD Drive, and the folder opens up with the secret stuff in it, but the Wilco CD only has the 12 audio tracks.

What's in the Enhanced stuff anyway?
