  1. i just got dish network installed last week. primarily b/c of the big ten network (which is also on directv). i am super happy with it. picture quality beats cable. and, i got a free high def dvr that has a 500 gig hard drive. and, it also works for two other tvs in my house. so, 1 unit controls 3 tvs. as far as getting out of your deal? you have a 30 day "buyers remorse". so, if you call w/in 30 days of install and tell them to yank their hardware, you are OK.

  2. just a head's up... converting a divx or xvid or whatever you have in a .avi to dvd format will take a long, long, LONG time. typically overnight'ish. just go out and get a divx capable dvd player. then you can burn the .avi straight onto a dvd-r and then fit lots more on there.

  3. hey,

i think that wilco has been on acl 3 times now. first one was in 99'ish maybe. (edit: yes, they were on 3 times, first in 08/99. and, also yes, the show from 2004 can be had very easily through one of your favorite torrent sites... i just checked.)

and, also, that cover is AWESOME. i'm a high school teacher, and, if i am correct and this was done in a hs gym... i would have been very proud of it being done at my school. good for you! you are a hero to me!!

  4. emo is kinda like punk. think "my chemical romance". i have always thought it was short for "emotional", but i don't know if that's right. and, i don't know if one of the actual band members from "a blaze we fall" posted that, but, if they really do spell it like that... that's easy pickens for trash talk. it should read "ablaze we fall".

  5. it's pretty simple...

if you are using rabbit ears, you are more than likely recieving digital signals (in addition to analog). new and newer tv sets have a digital tuner built in, however as was with my old tv, some don't and you have to get a digital box (similiar to a cable box, but for off the air signals). once you have that box, you can watch digital stations on your tv.

what's your zip code? use your zip and/or address to find out how far broadcasts are from you. if you are in the greater KC area, you should be OK. but, if you already recieve off the air analog, you should be able to get off the air digital.

  6. "Our local PBS station only showed it on the digital channel, and we're still gettin our waves thru the ole antenna."

your "off the air" broadcast should be digital. you will just need to invest in a digital off-air tuner. the gov'ment will be issuing 40 dollars to ppl who need them when the analoag broadcasts go "bye-bye".

i btw, have a digital off-air tuner that i no longer need. i don't know where you are in KS, but I am in parkville, mo. and, you can use antennaweb.org to see what digital broadcasts you get.

    here's impossible germany from ACL

  7. 3-speed,

you do realize that reading messages on the internet is highly subjective, not unlike emails. that is, you can't trust your initial instincts of the tone... if we were having this debate/discussion in person, over beers or whatnot, you would see that i would have a smile on my face, and not a derisive one. my argument is that i go to hear the band. simple enough. and, yeah, i've agreed that the singing along and hootin' and hollerin' during songs is a way to show appreciation, and i fully support it... to a certain level... it is HIGHLY possible to sing along and show appreciation w/out sacrificing the enjoyment of your neighbors.

just don't be too loud. that's all. watch that first youtube clip. it's a perfect example.

and, jeez man (i assume you're a man) i'm single b/c of something very, very awful that happened to me in the past. thanks for bringing that up, i'll be thinking about it all day.

    so, take it back! :cheekkiss

go smoke some weed or something and chill out...

maybe i'll bring one of those blow horns to the next show. that'll let 'em know i'm there!

  8. shoot. that is so 'disheartening' for me. i wish sampson would follow the rules. i hope the hoosiers do well. thanks for the link.

but, that is a PERFECT example of why i get irratated by ppl singing at a concert. com'on. you can't hardly hear tweedy during the beginning of that clip. even the caption mentions it! ppl don't pay to hear the crowd sing... or talk for that matter. they come to hear the band. also, i just talked to my buddy who opened for wilco last year and he agrees with me. there's a 'fine line'... it's nice to see the crowd "into it", but, jeesh, don't overwhelm ppl, or even the band, w/ it.

and. btw, that must have been shot right by me. i recognize the faces and angles.

and, btw, i KNOW i sound like a jerk, but, i go to concerts to here the band, regardless of who it is, and when ppl sing over them, i can't here them. 'nuff said.

  9. "Though it must kind of suck to be a Hoosier fan right now."

wha? we are pre-season #9'ish for bball. and, the football team is doing better than it has in 10 years or so. r u talking about knight being gone? if so, i was bummed at first, but now i am OK w/ it. he's a dick.

and, for powerplant? i have HEARD that there is a new brewer and things have gotten better. but, i won't even begin with my first experience there a couple years ago. awful.

i forgot, there is a good thing about zona rosa. the majestic. improv and a movie theater w/ booze.

and yes, m. christine, there is plenty of good beer here, i agree. i almost exclusively have blvd on tap at my house. flying monkey has been pretty solid in my opinion too. that dude actually has the recipe and license or whatever to brew breckinridge avalanche. pratty coo'.

also, i'd like to share an experience i had once w/ starbucks. i was in seattle a few summers ago on vacation. i was wandering around that "hip" part of town on the waterfront with the bars and whatnot. i SWEAR to you this happened: i got to a four way stop, and on 3 of the 4 corners was a starbucks. i SWEAR. i wish i had a camera. if i'm lying: i will NEVER be able to drink a beer again. that's how true this is. 3 starbucks on a 4 way stop, all on the corners.

  10. where is broadway coffee? i get my coffee at marshalls (blue mountain from jamaica) and grind and french press it at home. rarely go out for it, i feel ripped off. starbucks can bite me. that coffee makes me bend over and go "oh mah tummy hurts". m.christine: was that smiley for my take on the beer at the powerplant?

also, it's nice to see that their are so many wilco fans here in KC. were any of you a little "ticked" when tweedy made that "how dignified is it to come to chicago from KC" comment on kicking tele?

  11. hey hey-

well i've done/seen pretty much all that except for, of course the sprint center -i was at wilco, but i'm keeping my fingers crossed for a hannah montana ticket :) - and, also of course the bball hall of fame isn't open yet... but, as a HUGE college hoops fan, this will be cool. and, i'm gonna have to call you out on the Zona Rosa call. what shops are there for MEN? i live right by it, and was at Marshall's today. i like marshalls for the most part, and the happy hour at hereford house. but, with all the little girl clothes stores and not much in the way of "good eats"... ain't much going down for the dudes. also, gomer's north staff know be by name. i buy all my kegs there for the kegerator, attend all their sit-down tastings and whatnot. i LOVE going to 75th street brewery, but damn, it's about 30 minutes away... sometimes i'll parlay a trip there with a stop at mcgonigles for some good meat... although the price chopper near me has usda prime strips and ribeyes. i'm 'OK' with uptown, but i've only been once (for wilco) and the fact that they were charging 10 bucks for a 20 oz blvd that was about a quarter foam absolutely KILLED me. what is this new york? ok and with the heritage fests? i don't know if you get the star, but, a gal wrote in with the same complaint i have. i went to the irish fest at crown center a couple years ago... me being irish and all. well, there was not one irish beer there and no irish food. it was coney dogs and coors light. there was, of course, the cute little dancer girls and ppl hawking celtic t-shirts... but, the folks and i were disappointed and went to mortons for steaks. university of kansas can SUCK IT, i'm a hoosier fan. i've got two degrees from there, so pfffft. no jayhawks please. do. not. want. maybe i've been in culture shock here, as i've lived for quite some time in california, in a secluded beach town with more nature than you can handle. it's just that IN MY OPINION, and from MY EXPERIENCES, the two other towns i've lived in the most, which are bloomington, indiana and morro bay, california, are much more up my alley. i would love to meet some "cool" people here tho. i certainly haven't yet.

thanks for the head's up on the stuff guys. i do wanna check out that steamboat thing at city market. also, about the other tip from yesterday bout the brewpub here in parkville (the powerhouse or whatever). don't. get. me. started. do. not. want.

  12. hey, yeah, as long as people aren't singing loudly, then that's obvously fine. but i can't believe how some people are so oblivious to the people around them by singing so loudly. it's absurd someone would try and start a fight over you asking them to hush up. that's the type of people that bum me out. i remember being at a dead show about 17 years ago and an all-out brawl took place right in front of me over this type of thing. the guys beat the crap out of eachother. now that i think about it, there was quite a fight at a wilco show in louisville last october. don't know how it started, but one guy involved was bopping around all over, obviously invading ppls personal space.

"I would be annoyed if I was playing my music with all my heart to a bunch of people who weren't reciprocating at all"

there's a fine line there. if people scream and shout and holler like baboons during an entire song, well they are 'reciprocating' in their way, but, yeah, they are also limiting the enjoyment of others... just like a ton-deaf, loud singer can rub me wrong...

  13. kansas city is not a good suit for me. that's all. i'm selling my house and moving back to the central coast of CA in the spring.

and, i've been listening to the show today, and it sounds great. i also haven't mentioned how a bartender chick scammed me for extra money for a drink. long story, but i totally caught her ripping me and the owner off for 2 bucks.

also, nobody said that the band seemed irratated BECAUSE of being in KC. i just posted that i had ALSO noticed that 3 of them all looked really pissed off b4 the show. that's all.
