Why is it that anything by Yo la Tengo almost never works? Too much a guys band?

When did stores make the switch from the shmaltzy covers of Muzak to playlists that it seems are in rotation in various chains? I cant remember what year it was (probably 6-7 years ago) but I was buying mulch at home depot and a track from Air's Moon Safari album came on. It just seemed so out of place that I thought I imagined it. i turned to my wife and asked her if she heard it to. She replied "big deal, Air sounds like Muzak anyway".

Does anyone have any idea how to achieve the guitar effects in Via Chicago. of course Im speaking of the moment (especially live) when a "movement" comes in and out of the song. I know there is a lot of banging going on but where does that wall of sound come from? Ive been playing with a Gretsch hollow body into a Fender Bassman. I try to get a clean acoustic sound and then stomp on a cheap boss distortion pedal (turned up too high) for my version. Any suggestions? The presence of that rolling sound really makes the song for me.

wow, what a great show in charlotte. my wife surprised me with front row and left of center tickects for fathers day. Yes, i was the moron that yelled "macramaniac" after a quite period. Jeff quickly took care of me by telling me that " youve ben waiting for just the right time to say that havent you". My wife wanted to crawl under the seat but it was all in good fun. I thought that opening with sunken treasure was amazing and set the stage for gems to follow. Lots of good banter and as a father of a 6 year old girl I thought it especially thoughtful how jeff entertained the little girl. these guys just get better and better. thanks so much
The first song at your wedding?

Ok this was 11 years ago so please, not too many harsh comments (although I still like the song). "Tonight" by David Bowie and Tina Turner. We had a soul, fun, wedding band who for the most parts played atrocious "party" songs. But I must say, they absolutely nailed this one.
